Black Panther Teaser trailer...

Man he aint lying about those BP comics they are Badasss! Also marvel gotta get Dr Doom back somehow hes just a top notch villian.

Fuck it...someone get Rob on the board and have him moderate an essentials comic section and we have a private Q&A with him. @HNIC it ain't like you our annual dues wouldn't be worth it.

Storm is at Fox along with the rest of the X-men. Marvel can't use her unless they work out some kind of deal and there is no reason for them to do that. The Black Panther doesn't need Storm to be successful.

Well...

I thought Marvel got the rights back to X-Men but also...they could incorporate the childhood Storm into a BP movie. They crossed paths as youth before they had their powers. All I know is, they better not get no damn Halle Berry as Storm. You need a woman that commands power like Angela Bassett but is more of an Amazon.

If Marvel wanted to go deeper into the Black characters...shit, you could do a full Netflix series of them based on BP & Storms marriage (which was so important that cosmic entities were there...tie in Marvel Galaxy CHECK). That storyline, told through Luke Cage was dope.

Storm as a character has no value without the rest of the X-men.

There are no mutants in the MCU so why would their marriage matter to anyone?

If they somehow got Storm they would have to make her an Inhuman and that would wreck the character for all comic book fans.

Cast is fire.
I see alot of famous black actors joining in the future
Too bad Elba is stuck in Thor
Day 1 no bootleg

Agreed, but I could actually see Denzel and/or Will Smith in here somewhere...if Don Cheadle wasn't already Captain Rhoades he could be in there too..

Yep
Comic book movies are usually me and my sons thing to do together. But im taking the girls and my wife to this to. The whole family going.
Me and my sons are most likely almost guarantee are going to see it twice.
Probably take my nephews with me and my sons for the second viewing

I did that for the 1st avengers and civil war...we all held hands when panther was on the screen...no shame.

I was supposed to do the same for WW...but the ladies all went and loved it...

Then the BP trailer dropped

:itsawrap:

Storm as a character has no value without the rest of the X-men.
wrong... her back story and powers are more than enough to create significant possibilities
There are no mutants in the MCU so why would their marriage matter to anyone?
that would require storytelling and character development before a marriage would take place

If they somehow got Storm they would have to make her an Inhuman and that would wreck the character for all comic book fans.
not at all - if they somehow get XMen rights?
the MCU WILL HAVE mutants!
the story potential of introing mutants to an established universe would be incredible! They would be able to tell better stories than Kirby was able to!
They can turn established fan fave characters into bigots - hypocrites. Stories that highlight ignorance bias and inequality.

We are Wakanda

And here I was thinking about making tshirts... @largebillsonlyplease

...Storm isn't from Wakanda.

I get it - she's the most recognizable XMen (probably next to Bishop) that's Black. You feel some type of injustice of how she was portrayed by Berry...and in that other movie that doesn't exist...but this right here...it ain't happening. I'm sorry. Let it go. It's like asking Rihanna and Chris Brown to go back to bubblegum and get back together. Impossible.

Bask in this light 2Klub...BP will show us a new cinematic path to follow...just let it take hold of you and go...

You just proved my point.

You couldnt finish your post without talking about the X-men.

The brother I was responding to was talking about using Storm exclusively. Not the X-men.

Go ahead and try to fit her into a world where there are no mutants. Tell me how you would do it and how do you make her significant.

you lack logic in your original post and reading comprehension:
as a character Storm has enough development to stand well on her own - end statement

the second part was a general answer for any Xmen IP- if brought over to MCU - Marvel will not change the character(s) to Inhuman - ain't happening - separate statement
everything after was reasoning why none of the characters in XMen IP would be changed into Inhuman

You dont follow the MCU closely enough.

The storylines of bigotry and intolerance is ALREADY what they are using with the Inhumans.

Thats 1st.

2nd, you are the one who lacks reading comprehension. Storm on her own isnt enough to make her MARRIAGE to Black Panther significant, as the brother was alluding to. That story was significant because it brought different WORLDS together. If the MCU was to have Storm alone without the X-men, they wouldnt be able to make their marriage what it was in the comics.

no I follow... its the same as was in the books but has less impact because of the limited time to develop
If mutants are introduced there is potential for story telling deep and layered enough to turn the oppressed into oppressive elements, where the oppressed become the enthusiastic champions of a system that sought their destruction and exclusion at one time.
Like Irish vs African Americans

your grammar is poor - in your post initially you made 3 statements - here are the first 2:
1. Storm as a character has no value without the rest of the X-men.

2. There are no mutants in the MCU so why would their marriage matter to anyone?

I replied to each of your statements directly.

And I said before: a marriage between them in the MCU would require storytelling and character development before a marriage could take place

@ViCiouS i know it's not going to happen. Thanks for the scoop about x-men. I thought that's why they closed the loop with the x-men movies with old man Logan movie.

@melonpecan i know she isn't Wakandan. In fact, that was a bone of contention many people had against T'Challa, he married an outsider. It doesn't have to be done but if the Panther series is progressed and they introduce serious romance, then being married to Storm was a major thing for his character and I agree with @ViCiouS reply to what @AllUniverse17 wrote. Storm's character could be done. Besides, Marvel has already introduced two characters who were actually mutants but called them something else (Pedro & Wanda....which by the way, Pedro or Quick Silver was both in X-Men movies and MCU).

Fam, this is the beauty of all of this. Panther opens up the cinematic and tv world to the Black MCU and through the Panther stories, connections can be made to EVERYTHING cosmic and earth bound just like they were in the comics.

there are more Xmen movies and spinoffs in production
pretend Logan didn't happen just like First Class

we really don't need Storm in these movies. Cap, Thor, Iron Man and Hulk all got rid of their ladies. Let's keep this straight up action and none of that BS romantic stuff. I know all the other women are just mortals, and Storm is a Mutant, so thats a bit of a difference. I'm really not trying to watch BP and Storm getting all emotional over each other.

You not understanding what you responded to doesnt make my grammar poor. Others understood. Maybe you should make an effort next time. The only reason Storm would ever be in a Black Panther would be for their romantic relation. Therefore that was the context of our conversation.

As to the idea that she would need development, well sure, but again, the only way to make this happen is to completely change the character, and thats not what real comic book fans want. It wouldnt be Storm anymore.

No...they couldn't. Marvel Studios (owned by Disney) can't use the X-Men characters. The film rights for the X-Men are with Fox. Fox would have to not make an X-men movie for a certain number of years (I don't know the exact number) before the rights would revert back to marvel. Since they keep making X-movies and are even spinning off into New Mutants and X-Force...the rights won't be going back to marvel. So none of that stuff you said about Storm can happen. :dunno:

I am loving the cac hate I have been reading online. They salty because they know we are going to show up at the theater like we did for Get Out. What these cacs fail to realize is that we have been waiting forever for a movie like this. I am so sick of hood dramas and chitlin circuit cross dressing comedies. The hate is going to make us go more to make sure it is successful.

"other people..." main refuge of the accountability dodge -
look -I'll comprehend your posts as my education and experience dictates and you can take my replies anyway you feel

I don't think Storm should be in BP movies - I also don't see any Fox controlled character being available in the foreseeable future. But I can imagine ways that Storm can be introduced and developed in MCU to tell a compelling story that would eventually impact and incorporate BP and still be true to the core myth.

As for why they would want portray fan favorites as bigots or hypocrites? This shows me you aren't very familiar with stories told in the books. Every Marvel series and the characters live in worlds of grey. The stories cycle heros and villains making mistakes and striving for redemption... There are many stories where heroes do the wrong thing for the right reasons and /or make decisions -take actions based on personal prejudice and ignorance. Or where beloved heros cause great pain and damage because of addictions, single minded obsessions, selfishness, etc

I'm sure white people will be complaining after it comes out.
I expect cac fuckery before -
there was a lot of anticipation across races for Birth of a Nation, then we start hearing about old rape trial
- that campaign was a direct sabotage
Hollywood has consistently sabotaged every black drama / action flick for the last decade - they need to keep saying no one wants to see black movies - outside of comedy and oppressive / submissive led stories

Prediction: 5 Black Panther movies and Storm will be in at least 2 of them.

Not even. Storm aint no major character that Fox will be willing to do a deal like Spider-man

Storm is at Fox along with the rest of the X-men. Marvel can't use her unless they work out some kind of deal and there is no reason for them to do that. The Black Panther doesn't need Storm to be successful.

Marvel made a deal to get Spidey, Marvel could make a deal within the 5 movie framework to get the Xmen. It's obvious I'm thinking ahead and considering that a deal has to be made. I'm not talking about Black Panther needing using Storm to be successful. Sheesh.

Storm is African ... so is T'Challa. hmmm
Storm is an African goddess ... so is Bast/Bastet. hmmm
Storm has had an on and off relationship with T'Challa and even married him. hmmm
The Marvel Universe in the comics AND in the movies are connected. hmmm
Wouldn't surprise me to see Dr. Strange in a Black Panther movie either as part of what makes Wakanda so special is that they also understand very old magics. hmmm

The difference is that. Spider-Man is Marvel's flagship character. He's their Superman, not in power but in importance. Additionally Spiderman was in integral part of the Civil War storyline.

:smh:

I'ma just add my $0.02 cents.

As much as alot of us would like to see certain Marvel characters 'come back home'... it won’t be so easy for Marvel to re-acquire the rights to their ‘characters’ which they have sold to other major Hollywood Studios :smh: (like Fox who owns X-Men, Deadpool & Fantastic 4).

The main reason is because of none of the other Hollywood Studios have endured something similar to the Sony Email Hack of 2014.

That 2014 hacking scandal was the SINGLE biggest reason WHY Spider-Man ever made an appearance in Civil War. If that had not happened…. most likely, Spidey would have never appeared in ANY Marvel Studio movie, anytime soon. :smh:

If you Google these 4 keywords: “Amy Pascal + email + scandal”… you will reveal tons of links to articles that have been written over the last 3 years that really go in-depth about the hack / virus & its aftermath on Sony Pictures.

But I will save y’all the trouble of reading through all the stuff on your own... and just pull some excerpts from different articles... and use them to ‘draw my own conclusions’ about the Marvel/Spider-Man deal.

And it should all make sense by the time you finish reading. Trust.

This is just my opinion on 'the landscape', based on various articles.

Some of y'all might agree. :dunno: Some won't. To each their own.

——————————————————————————————————————————————

Spider-Man. All day. Every day.

First, I gotta point out something important…

Sony has NO major tent-pole, blockbuster-level FRANCHISE MOVIES under their belt…. besides Spider-Man. :smh:
  • Spider-Man movies LITERALLY pay all the salaries of all the Studio Executives.
  • Spider-Man even pays for some of the other movies they put out.
  • Spider-Man keeps the lights on in the office & on the movie lot.
  • Spider-Man sends their kids to college.
  • Spider-Man pays their mortgage.
This has been a major criticism of Sony Pictures, for years. (But it also plays a major reason 'why' things happened the way they did.)

Seth Rogen & those Judd Apatow movies tend to do well for Sony, but NONE of them are ‘franchise-level’ films. They are all just ‘one-offs’.
Back in 2014, after Spidey… Seth Rogen-type movies kinda ran the place. (Creatively speaking. Not literally.)

Which also means…. their environment does not ‘cultivate in-house talent’ well and make it conducive for their Studio Writers to create a Franchise worthy products. (Because they are not known for finding the next “Game of Thrones” type of tent-pole... or even 'looking'.)

Sony is just eating off of Spider-Man Movies & his Licensing deals.

Ever since 2000. :smh:

——————————————————————————————————————————————

How Bad Was It?

One article details ‘just how bad the hack was for Sony’….

Outside Sony, it would eventually seem as if all the studio's info had been exposed for everyone to see. But inside the studio, nobody could access anything. “Everything was so completely destroyed. It was surreal. Everything was down,” one ex-employee told me. “It wasn’t just one system or one part of the lot or one building. The network was completely chewed up by the virus."

The telephone directory vanished. Voicemail was offline. Computers became bricks. Internet access on the Sony lot was shuttered. The cafeteria went cash-only.

Contracts (and the templates those contracts were based on) disappeared.

“It was an Earth-shattering change,” an ex-employee says. “There was no ability to reference anything else that had happened before the hack.”

These last 2 sentences above are CRITICAL.

Think about it…
  • The Amazing Spider-Man (Starring Andrew Garfield) was released in July 2012.
  • The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was released in May 2014.
  • The massive hack happened in November 2014.
  • Marvel’s Contract with Sony meant that Sony MUST release (or be deep into production of) a new Spider-Man movie every 3 years, or so.

  • But all kinds of Movie Contracts and important documents are now LOST.

  • If the Contracts disappeared… you best believe other stuff like shooting schedules, production notes, whole scripts, Casting Decisions, Screenwriter’s Notes, Director’s Notes, Producer’s Notes, Location Agreements, Location Licenses, Set Construction Contracts… and all kinds of important legal (or production-related) documents were GONE also.

  • With no way to determine ‘the next milestone’ in the Marvel Contract that needs to be met, in order to ‘keep the rights to Spider-Man’…. things are about to get messy.

  • Even if a copy of the Marvel contract is located off-site in some random Corporate Lawyers office.. the Master Production Schedule is needed to reconcile ‘what ELSE needs to be done’ today, next week, next month, or next fiscal quarter… so that the Corporate Lawyers can PROVE that Sony is ‘living up to the agreement’.

By now for Sony… THE. STRUGGLE. IS. REAL.

——————————————————————————————————————————————

And if all of THAT is NOT BAD ENOUGH….

The top 2 bosses in the company (Michael Lynton & Amy Pascal) plus numerous other key Sony Execs get their ALL emails exposed. :smh:

And it is revealed that Amy (in particular) was SHITTIN' on various Hollywood (A-List) Talent. :smh:

Including, but not limited to...
  • Angelina Jolie
  • Leonardo DiCaprio
  • Jennifer Lawrence
  • Michael Fassbender
  • Kevin Hart
  • Will Smith’s Whole Family
  • Barack Obama
  • Countless Writers & Producers
  • Just to name a few
And these folks were all the ‘top-earners’ for Sony Pictures… who are NOT named ‘Peter Parker’. :smh:

——————————————————————————————————————————————

FROM BAD TO WORSE….

For the whole year of 2015....Sony’s BIGGEST box-office hit was…. Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2

Domestic Gross: $71 million
Worldwide Gross: $107 million

Let that sink in. :smh:

——————————————————————————————————————————————

MARVEL TO THE RESCUE....

At this point, Sony Pictures ain’t making money.

The future looks bleak for alot of those Sony Studio Executives (in various departments) who are probably one single 'flop' away from the unemployment line. (Consultants from Bain & Company are roaming the hallways... hanging around meetings in the conference rooms... taking notes everywhere... trying to determine whose gonna get picked for the inevitable 'Downsize Draft' that folks are mumbling about in the break room)

Amy Pascal & all the Sony execs done pissed off alot the (A-List) ‘talent’ in Hollywood, plus alot of the folks who help FINANCE their movies (who were Obama supporters). And those who were not pissed off, are probably very leery & outright cynical.

So, there is 2 things that Sony needs to do, to get back on track…
  • Make another Spider-Man movie. Pronto
  • Plus some spinoffs, or sequels. (Like yesterday.)
With Sony looking for a creative way to put a spotlight on its top franchise, they knew Marvel would be eager (and willing) to get its hands on Spidey again. (the reality is… Sony really ain’t got ‘no choice’. They are no longer in a any position to play ‘hardball’ with Marvel over Spiderman. :smh: They NEED Marvel more than Marvel needs THEM, at this point )

If they make another Spidey movie…. welp, they gotta make him YOUNGER… so they can keep riding that ‘meal ticket’ for the next decade, at least. So the next step for Sony, of course, is to recast Spider-Man. (Welp, guess that "Amazing Spider-Man 3” movie is now cancelled. :o)

As a result, Sony goes back to Spidey’s roots and puts the character back in high school, which would require it to cast a younger actor. (enter Tom Holland )

But now Sony ‘needs more cowbell’….

So they move forward with the Spider-Man related villain movie “Sinister Six,” and “Venom” spinoffs, plus announce other projects that feature female characters in the “Spider-Man” universe. (enter Silver Sable & Black Cat )

THE ART OF THE DEAL...
  • Sony did not make a DIME off the Civil War Movie. :smh:
  • Sony won’t make a DIME off the Avengers: Infinity Wars movie :smh:
  • Marvel won’t make a DIME off the Homecoming movie. :smh:
  • Nor any other Spiderman sequels. :smh:
Here’s why…

Sony needed to breathe life into its “Spider-Man” franchise;. So they lend their 'big gun' back to Marvel, in order to generate more exposure for its biggest moneymaker. Doing so also creates some serious goodwill among Spider-Man fans, who have wanted to see the character become part of the Avengers.

Marvel now gets access to one of its most popular characters — it already controlled the rights for TV, merchandise and other platforms, but the holy grail for Disney lately has been film, where it has been able to launch franchises that impact the bottom line of ALL of its various divisions.

And the deal that gets worked out is....
  • Marvel Studios won’t pay Sony Pictures for the rights to put Spider-Man in “Captain America: Civil War,” the “Avengers” franchise or its other superhero films, as part of its new partnership with the studio, according to sources with knowledge of the deal.
  • But at the same time, Marvel won’t receive a cut of the box office for any of Sony’s films that feature Spider-Man.
  • Sony won’t receive a percentage of the revenue Disney makes from Marvel’s films that have Spider-Man, either.
This whole deal will probably end as soon as Sony gets that (Homecoming) ‘re-up package’ from Prop Joe.

(According to Amy Pascal herself, that is...)

That Spider-Money lasts a long time

The proof is in the pudding… look at Sony Pictures’ financials for 2016:

Sony’s Pictures Division Reports Loss Of $719M; Company’s Overall Net Profit Takes 50% Hit

http://deadline.com/2017/04/sony-pi...loss-overall-net-profit-down-half-1202078945/

Sony Pictures lost almost $1 billion dollars last year… without any Spider-Man revenue. :smh:

Welp, if you lose 50% of your business in a single year…. ssshhheeeeiiiiiittt.... it means that 2 straight years WITHOUT Spider-Man income might just drop them down from being a ‘major’... to an ‘independent’-level Movie Studio. :dunno: (Assuming they don’t file for bankruptcy protection, or just sell the whole damn company first, that is )

The Sony Execs have blamed movies like The Ghostbusters reboot, and The Magnificent Seven for underperforming.
However, in the same breath, they ALSO claim they will make about $4 billion by next year.

Wait. Hol up… They said $4 Billion, huh?

Ummm… when does that next Spider-Man movie come out again?? :dunno:

Oh yeah, I almost forgot.:D

Disney movies and tv shows dont have the range or depth of character development that comics can afford to have.

Are you aware that we are talking about MCU and not Marvel comics??? In the comics you can erase the past whenever you want. Cant do it in MCU.

How do you have Cap or Black Widow come back from being bigots without risking damage to the property?

Again you are showing that you havent caught on to the tone of the MCU.

Spider-Man. All day.
