I'm just going to put this out here. I'm reading what ya'll saying but we can't be blinded by "best numbers ever" and "adding overseas money". We can't. If WE want this to do good, WE need to go watch it. Make it the best movie WE can make it be where we are. Studies all show that Black people buy things. Go to the movies. Have disposable income (to an extent). If WE turn out for this, regardless of what the total numbers do, it at least shows that this is what WE want to see and you need to make more of it. If this is going to be a testament to the power of Black spending, let's show them this is what we want. It doesn't have to be the best thing numbers wise everywhere, WE just need to show this is the best thing FOR US from a major studio.
Church
Tabernacle
Choir
Agreed 100%
And that is what I mean...imagine 3 weeks of screenings and WE comprise a majority of the viewing audience.
Truth be told?
More white folk saw get out than us.
Sidebar: Did that suddenly garner some new level of empathy and understanding?
Nope. Bill Maher said the n word on national tv....so we shouldn't be expecting. BP to change the world either.
We do NEED them to see this movie to a degree we have no control over that.
But we can still make sure it remains OUR MOVIE.
Do the right thing, malcolm X, luke cage, Rihanna, Beyonce, Jay z, nas, kendrick, j cole, Lebron, Serena, Atlanta, etc...they are STILL ours.
We need to OWN Black Panther in a sense.
And we need to not let THEM control the narrative and decide what is and isn't a successful event. We decide what BP is or isnt.
We create the narrative set the terms and set the goal posts on this one.
Cause if white women can insist ghostbusters was a success?
Well damn it we can call our movie a success too.
