The problem really is society...Blacks are second class citizenz in a land of Bill Gates, the rich Blacks are looked upon as the exception not the rule, throw in the drug culture and gang culture nationwide in areas where mainly blakcs livbe and so now since the mid-seventies black children shun education and all things equated with being a "square" or "lame"...children seek to be seen and heard so they chase popularity and respect...unfortunately in the metro area that consist of being violent, rude, disrespectful, overly aggressive, irresponsible, anti anything that would garner you the title of positive contributing citizen...every neighborhood I have lived in city wise has upstanding citizens, success stories considering the environment, but doctors and lawyers don't make rap songs, they don't have videos that applaud their actions, they aren't being heard in rotation all day every day on the radio...couple all that with the fact that many teens do have strong father figures, it just so happens that those figures aren't positively contributing, so to speak, i don't know of any real drug dealer or gang member who wasn't around an uncle or older brother or cousin who wasn't also a drug dealer or gang member, these children are being raised to promote a culture of ignorance and aggression, mothers aren't putting their sons in chess club, they aren't putting their daughters in etiquette schools...the concept is laughable in a discussion with them...one brother told me after I said don't smoke weed around the children, that I was acting like a "county boy," a sister, with a bachelor's and working on a master's at a prestigious university said I was "acting funny" because I don't smoke weed anymore...This is the culture that is representing us internationally and we wonder why the incarceration rates are so high, not only have we not fully climbed out of the slump of slavery, we look at our children as animals to be trained and sent to the fields, instead of our future presidents and scientist...

I can remember the time in my English can when we discussed Compound Verbs my kids didn't even understand it when I related it to compound chemical substances that are found on the street. (crack as compared to cocaine) All Title 1 schools aren't the same ,but at the school I work at there just isn't motivation. We have students at the school who are bright and going somewhere. I just work with the pits of the school. Like at my campus we have a problem with chronic tardiness. Someone said that I was whining. I'm not whining about the kids,but about my fearless leader as he calls himself failing to see the problems of the school and fix them. Last semester we had a teacher assaulted by a student and the principal had enough nerve to say the school is all she has if he wasn't for the school she'd be homeless.

Lets see I teach to subject areas in Special Education, have set up a computer center in my class room for my students who don't have access to a pc, help students with SSI papers, school applications, hlep with job apps, give up weekends and evening to chaperon. Kayanation whats your contribution to the lower income citizens of our society.

First way you can help the cause is stop blaming whites for where the low income black community is. No one white has made my students not want to read or write. That comes from within. Institutionalized racism and the propagation of negative black stereotypes in society has done more harm to handicap our kids will to learn than our children's aversion to reading and education.

I went to that school one because the old principal was good friends with my uncle. Also I thought and still believe its a great learning experience for myself and when I raise my won kids. I'm currently in the process of making some career moves as compared to going back to school. I have some graduate hours in Education ,but I'm pretty sure I won't finish in that.

There are avenues for you to take in special education that are totally different than your current circumstance.

Finish up those grad credits in education....and check out ISDs (I dont know what yall call those support schools).

Shit, special education has a myriad of disciplines within.

Hearing impaired, Emotionally impaired, other wise health impaired, and ect ect ect.

You dont have to stay in the classroom.

My point is that since black males represent like 40% of all special ed students, we need to have black men at the helm.

Dont get discouraged by your current situation.

Black men NEED representation in education, because that institution has been created to cause our downfall.

My dog on BGOL, (TaylrMayd), has me pondering on the idea of getting advanced degrees in special ed.

I came from a 3rd world country and it makes your poverty look like luxury. Running water is a luxury, believe that. Fucking water.
Every day throughout elementary school we had to wake up at 5:00am every morning and walk 2 miles to a community pipe, fill water and walk back. Three (3) trip EVERY morning then go to school. From age 5 to age 11.
