c/s

I was at school talking to some american brothers today and shit was like ":hmm:"

The people who come here from Africa be on some "Next Level" shit, and once you reach that level its hard as hell to even relate to any American(Black, white, or whatever).

Can you give a brief synopsis of what was discussed with the americans, what you mean by "next level" shit, and why it's hard to relate to americans? I don't have an angle, i'm just curious.

Re: Black Folks: Which group do you identify yourself closest with?

I had the discussion with one dude and three females that I work with. It started because one of the females made a comment about the Somalian "pirates" that I didn't like. I schooled her as to why the Somalians conduct themselves the way that they do in their waters, but she couldn't understand why I would side with the Somalians. And this was AFTER I told her about how American and French energy companies dump toxic waste in their water without asking or letting them know. :smh:

That led me to ask all of them if they identified more with other Americans, people of African descent, or men/women in general. One of the females chose Americans and the other two chose women in general. The dude picked African Americans because, in his words, Africans don't use deodorant. :smh: Mind you, these are all college educated African-Americans. The discussion became rather heated at one point and we all agreed to disagree in the end.

African Americans have no culture and are generally lost trying to fit in and follow whitey. So I actually expected those ignorant responses. btw I voted for your first choice.

1st and foremost, I am a man.:hmm:

2nd, I'm a black man.:)

3rd, an Afro/black/negro/African/Whatever-we-call-ourselves-this-decade/ American.

4th, I'm an American.:)

5th, I'm a nigga...don't let the smooth taste fool you!:D

*two cents*

Shit, i'm almost at the point where I don't give a fuck anymore. That's part of the reason I made this thread. Trying to enlighten people that don't want to be enlightened is very stressing, especially when you realize the depths of their ignorance, the strength of their willingness to remain ignorant and how much they out number the amount of people that actually have information that they want to share to help these people.

I used to be like you, I gave up a long time ago. No one cares, they enjoy being ignorant.

Well the discussion was about Spring break(next week) and some greek event being promoted about a night club and how all the "Bruhs" were going be getting luck in there next week...Really nothing all too different than what we would say on here, but in a classroom environment(Which it was) it had people looking ":hmm:"

By next level I mean steady about their business. Africans(and Asians to be fair) stay their ass in the library. It may be a stereotype, but it holds true. Our school is so fucked up by this now, that during different times of the day they will have black radio stations coming to the school to distract black students to keep them out of the library. They call this keeping "Loud" people out:smh::smh::smh:. The African organizations stay their ass in the library studying and networking...Next level shit. Their women, in there studying in numbers...Shits just different:dunno:

The relate factor is based merely on culture. It just seems the American(Sounds weird putting this there because I am American) kids are there to party or for a good time, while the others will have their good time, but show more focus during school.

Re: Black Folks: Which group do you identify yourself closest with?

No don't quit, your abilities are required... He need our orators and historians, those who are beacons in this horrible time...

Follow principle # 2: help none which don't help themselves. There are still kids and adults who need the clever fella by the old tree.

Re: Black Folks: Which group do you identify yourself closest with?

tough question

Its hard to say.

I am hesitant to associate myself with any group that will have anonymous members.

Circumstances would dictate me to align with whatever group that offers me and my family the most benefits at a particular point in time.

So what if the KKK offered you and your family numerous benefits....?

Ok, so you're a college student i'm guessing. What was it about your parents upbringing that made you and your people more serious about your education? Also, is African-American history something that's discussed/taught in your household? Lastly, and you can answer this (or the other questions) if you'd like, but let's say you wanted to marry a girl who's family is African-American. How would your family feel about that, and what would be some of the reasons that they would give for not wanting you to chose an African-American for a mate? Again, I don't have an angle. With this thread, I'm really trying to make sense of a lot of questions that i've had since I was a child.

 Even if I wanted to quit, I don't really think I could. Admittedly, I do get tired/stressed from time to time, but I don't think I could really quit even if I wanted to. The spirit of our ancestors moves through me with a force that I lack the power to subdue.

Bad grades werent, and are still, not accepted...simple as that.

I am African American, but my dad(early 50's southern dude) has expressed that he would be "Shocked" if I married an African American woman based on my general disposition.

Ok, the way you were speaking, I assumed you were from outside of the US. I'm glad that you were instilled with great educational values. Your parents are to be commended most definitely. I still would like to know the level of importance placed on African-American history when you were growing up.

 @ Dishikis. That's cool bruh. I hope that the information you received from them, or on your own, will allow you to appreciate the struggle that African-Americans, such as your parents, went through to ensure that you are able to receive the education that you are getting today.

Lol

Truthfully I relate more to the women of African descent but can identify with both sexes of African descent ... black is black

I see nothing wrong with identifying more with black women, but I've ran across a few black women who identify more with ALL women than blacks in general. That troubles me.

Who do I identify with MORE?.I would have to say African American out of all of the rest of the options because this all I know and what Im accustom too.

I would identify more with American second and Everything else comes last.

im west indian and nigerian. i will say i identify MORE with all people of African descent but that doesn't stop me from showing love to people of other cultures. nowadays im more about being Universal and befriending good spirited people with good aurus about themselves.

the word "all" is throwin me off.

i consider myself a blackman 1st and foremost.

i'm an american and i have love for people of african descent here and all over the globe.

i can relate to/ kick it with ANYBODY with a positive spirit regardless of color, age, level of wealth.

When I say all I'm just talking about the group as a whole. It's not important.
