Billions | Showtime Series l discussion thread

I don't watch Succession but richer than Axe? They got a character in there in that Bezos/Musk/Arnault level of wealth?

I haven't dealt with anyone in corporate finance, so I will take your word for it. My issue with Axe is that he doesn't seem like a real person anymore. It's as if the writers take every cliche about a powerful person and give them to Axe. I miss seeing the cool places and the type of access a Billionaire gets! Now Axe is just in the office barking out orders.

This show shouldn't be subtly doing anything about COVID. It should be showing how the rich got richer during COVID! Show how they exploited a whole in the market for profit! Talking about how r/wallstreetbets backed gamestop against some of the big companies.

Succession has a character that's richer than Axe and is a bigger asshole than him. The difference is that he's written better. You get to see the different sides of him. We aren't seeing the different sides of Axe and it's messing up the flow of the show.

This show is in a rut. Here we are again with another seemingly powerful team up to take down Axe. They've done this at least 3 or 4 times already and Axe always comes out unscathed. At this point, it's boring. Either commit to actually taking Axe down a peg or just wrap this shit up. Watching the uber wealthy air out their petty grievances against one another stopped being interesting after the first 2 seasons.
i was thinking the same thing.. is this the last season ?

I’m sure they will get to that. They tried to pick up where they left off BEFORE the pandemic. Last episode actually gave a great example of why retail investors can never beat the hedgefunds (wallstreetbets was a psyop and hedge fund backed - that’s clear now based on it not happening again). Because there is too much behind the scenes that goes on. ‘Billions’ showed a great example with Mafee taking down the clean energy industry dumping positions.

the only difference between retail traders and hedge fund traders is capital and access to information. The gap between the latter is tightening but the gap between the former is larger than ever.

I’ve seen ‘Succession’ as well, seems to be based on the Murdoch family with King Leer thrown in. I actually think Succession is old money, white version of what ‘Empire’ was supposed to be.

In Succession the dude is a tv tycoon, Axe is just a hedge fund guy, you dont see any hedge fund managers in the top ten richest lists.
Right… they are just in the top 15-50.

Warren Buffet
Carl Icahn
Thomas Peterffy (who Axelrod is trying to emulate)
David Tepper
Steve Cohen
Robert F. Smith

all billionaire hedge fund or former hedge fund managers. The list is much longer but that is just off the top of my head.

The show has become repetitive but still has it's moments. The whole pizza debacle reminded me of Table 87 and their frozen pizzas which are better than the ones they serve in their restaurants. As soon as i said are they going to bring in old boy to do Axe's bidding and boom there he was.

There's a scene this week where Chuck makes breakfast for his daughter (who I almost forgot existed) that is unintentionally hilarious to me. The girl comes downstairs fresh out of bed when Chuck offers to make her something. Then there's this ridiculously extended scene where he oils a pan, cracks some eggs into a bowl, whisks them drops them into the pan, flips it, then serves it up. I'm sure white folks will watch this scene and see nothing wrong, but every black person will watch and immediately notice he doesn't season the eggs at all, no salt no pepper no cheese no nothing. Just hot egg on a plate. And to make matters worse, his daughter breaks apart a french baguette to put some bread for each plate but this little heffa ain't wash her hands so she got the booty crumbs from scratching her ass all night all over everyone's breakfast.

The shit is bizarre but on brand with how rich white people live. That's why they've been in love with their black mammy's cooking since slavery, hell even the hispanic housekeepers. We know to jazz up our food with herbs, seasonings, and spices. It doesn't occur to them naturally to cook that way, just pure savagery.

Chuck bout to get a $25 mil lump sum payout and be pissed since what he really wants is to get in them books and dig

Still not sure what the real point of the chuck cooking eggs scene is but yeah smh at the daughter just casually tearing a piece of baguette for everyone with her unwashed hands. Really hard to believe a decabillionaire like Prince would just be standing around there waiting for Chuck to take his time cooking eggs in real life

Really was hoping they wouldn't go this direction with Axe and Wendy

Prince put salt on his eggs and threw some over his left shoulder.

what show you been watching LOL

Right!

The writers ran out of ideas and that's their hail mary to see if it works! Showtime has a way of keeping shows going past their expiration date! I hated what they did to Dexter!

I didn't know this shit still came on. I lost interest the first season with the tranny. When I saw the trailer for the next season, and the tranny was an even bigger part of the show, I was done.
