I’m happy he and Rakim both said it because real recognize real. While i’ll argue in the other direction for sure, I really dont care too much about this comparison at all. What I care about more, is the fact they respect each other to this level. That’s most important.
These dumb ass youths today always love to say, “the prior generations didn’t like the ones before them either...”
Bullshit.
The divide is not generational.. it’s an actual indictment that what you kids make is trash and no one in hip hop who matters, respects it. It’s emotionally riddled drug infused, depressed ass bitch nigga music. The older generations RESPECTED the 90’s era of hip hop and clearly still do. The OG’s looked at the next generation up and said. “carry this torch young buck”, and we did.
The first real disconnect in hip hop history, started when this trash ass generation of Drake loving, Soulja Boy sounding, non-emceeing, hype over whack ass beats, 21 Savage, Kodak Black, Lil Yachty, Cardi B, Young Thug, Tyler the Creator ass look alikes, cried out for streaming numbers, Instagram likes and album sales. That and wanting credit for “being different”, yet our soldiers like Cole and Kendrick get the back seat to them, every .. single .. time. Fuck outta here.
Unpopular fact: No rapper past 2008ish, would ever make anyone’s top 20 list.
