Big Daddy Kane: “Eminem is the Kobe of hip-hop”

If you are going to be the Kobe of Hip Hop you have to....

Draw comparisons to an all-time great

Start young.

Live up to the hype

Have a bunch of memorable moments.

Have a long sustained career

Leave a lasting impact.

Branch out into other areas.

Since he's using Kobe as a template.

I’m happy he and Rakim both said it because real recognize real. While i’ll argue in the other direction for sure, I really dont care too much about this comparison at all. What I care about more, is the fact they respect each other to this level. That’s most important.

These dumb ass youths today always love to say, “the prior generations didn’t like the ones before them either...”

Bullshit.

The divide is not generational.. it’s an actual indictment that what you kids make is trash and no one in hip hop who matters, respects it. It’s emotionally riddled drug infused, depressed ass bitch nigga music. The older generations RESPECTED the 90’s era of hip hop and clearly still do. The OG’s looked at the next generation up and said. “carry this torch young buck”, and we did.

The first real disconnect in hip hop history, started when this trash ass generation of Drake loving, Soulja Boy sounding, non-emceeing, hype over whack ass beats, 21 Savage, Kodak Black, Lil Yachty, Cardi B, Young Thug, Tyler the Creator ass look alikes, cried out for streaming numbers, Instagram likes and album sales. That and wanting credit for “being different”, yet our soldiers like Cole and Kendrick get the back seat to them, every .. single .. time. Fuck outta here.

Unpopular fact: No rapper past 2008ish, would ever make anyone’s top 20 list.

Even greats sometimes dont educate past the deep depths of white indoctrination. White America still got the hearts of these men.

Eminem ain't as great as Kane, and he cant hold the jock of Rakim.

Shit is ridiculous, the Black men always wanting to validate some white shit. Nobody needs to cape for Eminem. Folks love him, he is super rich and has EVERY white man tone ride for him. Thats enough

This is fucking disappointing.

By far a worst comp than OP.
“Yo, you got to be in lyrical fitness”- Kobe Bryant

Lyrical fitness = Mamba mentality

"I fought to regain control of the plane but went up in a ball of flames and got banned from the Hip-Hop hall of fame"- Canibus

Yes, his career ended in disaster years ago and you can't compare them in terms of success or accolades.

But approach and ambition? Ability and audaciousness?

There's a clear similarity that Kobe was well-aware of.

IS there a legitimate Kobe equivalent in hip hop?

I can't think of ANYONE off top besides Wayne?

Man I don't know if I agree with this analogy but I never understood why people felt like they couldn't give Em his props. Dude is/was nice. He's gonna go down as one of the greatest to ever do it. It is what it is. There's a handful of commercial rappers I felt like could make a catchy/pop record but still display lyricism. Jay could do it, BIG could do it and Em was another one. Big Boy and Dre could too. Its a small list of guys who didn't sacrifice they pin for a hit. Shit is much tougher than you think.

I need to drive 12 miles to his house in Wake Forest N.C. and slap some sense into Kane.

A lot of it comes down to him being white. That's the biggest reason why most people won't give him the props he deserves, which is a valid point undoubtedly, but some just can't see past it.

Personally, I don't think he's the GOAT, cause Jay holds that title for me, but I have no quarrels about putting Eminem in the top 20 (maybe even 10) of hip hop emcees all time.

Eminem is good at what he does, but everyone that listens to him has to know that Royce the 5'9 has been surpassed him over a decade ago. Hell, Elzhi is better than Eminem at this point.
