BGOL Resume Question about lying (W-2 spin-off)

after following this thread...

Employer needs pay stub/W-2 in interview
http://www.bgol.us/board/showthread.php?t=650475

I got a question about potential employers contacting previous employers...

what EXACTLY can they SAY and NOT SAY about your previous employment and what can be asked in reference to it???

ALSO:

If you have a gap ion your employment for reasons you dont want to put on your resume (nothing illegal...personal reasons, surgery/health issues)

However...those issues are no longer a concern how best can you address them to potential employers???

If you change around dates of leave off employers and just withhold certain info is that considered lying???

thanx fam

I've done a lot of hiring, interviewing, and personally enduring both myself.

When doing a past check, we only ask for dates, title(depends), and if they are re-hireable. I can't think of the last time someone attempted to add in more to it. Most of the time, this is done in some verifiable system or HR who doesn't even personally know the potential employee. Also playhaition, Its best to list the year and the month only on your resume. Some will argue year only. I've seen people like both ways. But list the dates, it will allow them to quickly determine if you qualify for a position. I can tell you first hand, if I have to fucking figure out if you have say 4 or 5 years for an opening. I'm tossing your resume to the "nope" stack.

As far as breaks of employment. You should either just tell the truth, dress it up with some of hte above listed ideas, but either way, don't list it on your resume. Just list your past jobs and dates, thats it. Let them bring that up. What you and a lot of people above need to realize is that there will be horrible people interviewing, morons, clearly those who don't know what the hell they are doing, and worse. You can't do anything to beat that. So just play the numbers make your resume and backstory the best you can offer.

As far as references. Treat them like gold. Only provide them to direct recruiters and make sure they all know about incoming contacts. Don't give them blindly to contract or headhunters. Those fucks will call them on the jump, even when they haven't submitted you to a job, and then attempt to try and harass them about openings (if they are a manager) or trying to help them find a job.

register your own LLC with a registered agent in the state your live in.
use your own company as the gap filler (consulting etc)
create your own damned pay stubs

shit is rather simple to do.

I AGREE WITH YOU OWN LLC BUT creating your own pay stubs. A little risky if you not good with record keeping and taxes. Plus uncle pimp may want to take look at those if you are ever audited.

I thought you bgol ninjas work off the books

I know this was a joke, but I hustle hard too. see below

Wow all the stuff folks have to go through just to make money for someone else.

We all got to start somewhere. Funding is a bitch for someone with limited means as I had growing up. All the hard work in the world don't mean shit if you aren't making the money to go with it...ask any day laborer..... I went from high school to military to college to military to corporate to contracting to selection to great position in federal employment....ALL WHILE STARTING, GROWING, AND OWNING MY OWN BUSINESS. I still wild people out when I tell them I work 2 jobs everyday. 1 for them and 1 for me.

I understand the rat race very well. (Thanks to DAVE RAMSEY<--appreciate this guy and BITCH ASS rip off artist Robert Kiyosaki<--cant stand this guy) I worked my ass off and sacrificed to pay off every debt I owed with the house still remaining. I hope to have it paid for in 7 more years. I don't believe in debt, but I do believe in 401k, medical benefits, pension retirement, residual income, small business contracts with DOD and DHS. I am literally learning the game from the inside out. So when my children are old enough to have a w-2s, they will have a w-2s from their own contracting companies and learning the tax code for themselves. They already are part owners in an inheritance TRUST and a separate asset trust. If my hard work and future planning pays off, they will come out ahead of the game, learning to build wealth instead of getting rich.

As far as the jobs go, whether you own your own business or currently work for someone else....INTEGRITY MATTERS. Consider like your virginity, once you lose it, its gone. always have integrity. we all lie to some degree whether by admission or omission. the rub is to not fall into the trap of getting too comfortable with your position and staying hungry and prepared for the next opportunity.

With regard to former employees, they can ask anything they want but your former employer will only likely tell them:
1) Dates of employment
2) Job title and last salary
3) Whether you're eligible for rehire

depends on state. i can't divulge what a person makes to other job prospects, finance companies/banks trying to verify info, etc. UNLESS it's submitted in writing with approval from the employee they are inquiring about.
