BGOL Ongoing Formula One Thread: 2025 Season

This season is hard to choose my favorite driver. I want Lewis to break all the records and be the greatest ever! But the all other drivers are classy, and fun to watch. Nico Rosberg was straight dickhead and spoiled brat. Look at the relationship between Lewis and Valtteri Bottas? You can see they both work great as a team.

Halo protection system to be introduced for 2018

Next year’s Formula 1 cars will all be fitted with the Halo cockpit protection system, the FIA announced on Wednesday.
The Halo, designed to reduce the risk of injury from debris or other objects striking a driver’s head, was trialled by a number of teams during Grand Prix practice sessions last year.

With the support of the teams, certain features of its design will be further enhanced ahead of its introduction in 2018.

The move was announced following a meeting of the Formula One Strategy Group, at which other topics discussed included 2021 power units, cost control, and improving the F1 show for fans.

Full statement from the FIA:
Today the Formula One Strategy Group met to discuss a number of issues regarding the FIA Formula One World Championship. For the first time, all teams competing in the FIA Formula One World Championship were present at the meeting with observers from Renault Sport Formula One Team, Scuderia Toro Rosso, Sauber F1 Team and Haas F1 Team in attendance.

Key topics discussed at the meeting included:

Frontal cockpit protection

Following the unanimous agreement of the Strategy Group, in July 2016, to introduce additional frontal protection for Formula One and the repeated support from the drivers, the FIA confirms the introduction of the Halo for 2018. With the support of the teams, certain features of its design will be further enhanced.

Having developed and evaluated a large number of devices over the past five years, it had become clear that the Halo presents the best overall safety performance.

2021 Power Unit

An update was given to all attendees regarding the two recent extraordinary meetings held in Paris involving significant representation from the bulk of global motor sport power unit manufacturers.

Further analysis will be completed over the summer which will be reviewed at the next meeting of the Strategy Group in September.

Cost control

A new approach to cost control was presented and received unanimous support. A dedicated Working Group made up of representation from the Commercial Right Holders, the FIA and the teams will be tasked to come up with innovative solutions aimed at ensuring the sport remains sustainable in the coming years.

Improving the show

A number of sporting measures aimed at improving the show were also debated and specific studies will be carried out to assess these.

Gonna be an interesting qualy. Merc didn't even get a P1 spot in any of the practices and Massa is all of a sudden too sick to do qualy. Diresta who has driven a cars since the V8 era ended. He's literally going from F1 pundit a few hours prior to F1 driver again. Crazy.

This Formula 2 race is intense.
F2 is always a good race. I caught the the race after it first air after qualifying yesterday. Much better action than F1 to be honest and that's because it's purely up to driver skill and they have something to prove so they can get promoted to F1.

"Monza is regarded by many as the embodiment of Formula One racing.

Not only is it a fantastic example of a track that combines speed with skill, it also has a heart and soul all of its own. It has seen some of the finest races of all time, but also some of the sport's worst accidents. The names of great drivers and the sounds of engines from years gone by linger in the grand old trees surrounding the track in the royal park.

Work began on the circuit in 1922 and was completed in under six months. After Brooklands in the UK and Indianapolis in the USA, it was the third permanent race track in existence. With a banked oval incorporated into the design of the road racing circuit, the total track length stood at a whopping 10 kilometres.

Formula One racing visited the circuit as part of the inaugural season in 1950, and it has remained a permanent fixture on the calendar ever since.

Over that time, Monza has borne witness to an incredible list of historic moments, famous victories and horrifying crashes. All combine to make it one of the most magical places on the Formula One calendar. For many there is nowhere that encapsulates the sport better than this circuit. The Italians call it 'La Pista Magica', the magic track, a description few would disagree with.
