BGOL Anonymity is gone, Facebook just recommended Woodchuck to me as a friend. I hit him up.

Facebook recommended someone named Woodchuck to me as a new friend. I read the details of Woodchuck. I was like I know that ain’t who I think it is. The details matched a lot of things Woodchuck said on BGOL. I DMed my BGOL name to Woodchuck and he responded.

There may be other suggested friends on Facebook or social media who are BGOLers. They just don’t have their BGOL name as their social media.

Very concerning.
I’m not sure how this is possible, but I think it might be related to not being logged out and having your phone number linked to both accounts. Always stay logged out of FB, and if possible, use a different browser altogether to minimize the chances of exposing your personal information due to cookies and other identifiers.

Anyone else wanna provide their thoughts on this?

I never have my phone number linked to BGOL and I've always been logged into facebook.

I think this forum isn't foolproof because leaks like this shouldn't be happening.

@HNIC can you give your thought's on this for why this is happening?

I recall about 12-15 years ago when members rose up and voiced their concerns about BGOL being searchable via Google and similar search engines. HNIC wanted to test out ad rev and new memberships to keep the board afloat.

Yeah, I feel this is where the security failure occurred.
Chrome ain't shit. Use Brave.
It prioritizes privacy and anonymity.
My issue with brave is the fact they increase your memory ram being on that site for long period's of time.

Understood but he gotta find a way to keep this board from being seen by others.

I’ve noticed that when some of you share Instagram videos, and when you click on it, Instagram suggests your account as a friend before playing the video.
People keep posting these blocked Instagram videos that you have to be logged in to be able to see them.

Aloha browser is a other browser to keep your privacy intact on the web.

But some of these privacy sites would increase your memory ram like crazy on your PC but you can use them on your phone with no problems.

I skip those posts everytime, irregardless of whether it's IG or Facebook. If any social media post is linking me to an external app that I have to be logged into to see, I'd rather not see the post :dunno:

Best thing HNIC could do is block or limit social media redirected.

I don't totally understand Facebook, I rarely use it, but
If someone visits my profile on Facebook or I visit someones Facebook profile.
I all of a sudden see their profile when I scroll Facebook, I think it's Facebook's way of
encouraging/generating engagement.

Facebook also might be buying data from google etc., matching people who have the same interest.
There is no way I'm sharing information. I don't have a lot of personal info to give.

Phone number and/or email address.

That's why everyone should have a throw away email.

Also probably a good idea to do "do not track" requests and have one junk browser that automatically dumps everything cookies, cache, history everytime you close it.

What's the best throwaway email that can be used, because if it doesn't look legit, I don't think a person will get approved to join this forum.

I just set up junk accounts with emails set up for these types of accounts. The only ones I have problems with are the ones that ask for a phone number. I use to use my Skype number before Microsoft killed it. Refuse to give my actual number. If something does slip through the cracks, I use random different names among different sites, to make it difficult for anyone to know whose actually behind the account.

I don't use the apps either, the work around is to tell your phone browser to load the site in desktop mode. This works for me as an Android user anyway.

Shit is crazy but I never use the same email on this forum like I do for other social media sites because I have a throwaway emails for this forum and other sites when I'm purchasing something that I don't want people to know about.

If people want to stay anonymous, they gotta make sure they aren't using the same username and password that they use for other accounts.
