Im gonna make a statement from my humble opinion, having an interest outside of sports doesn't make you a loser, an underachiever or any of that...it makes you a human being...I love sports but I never cared for Kobe or Mike because they come across as automatons...I respect their love for the game but to me they are not fully developed people

I gotta give it to Shaq.
Whenever the League changes the rules of the game to stop you that's it as far as I'm concerned. Had the rules stayed the same Shaq would have been even more dominant. Shaquille O’Neal dominated any single player sent to defend him, Stern changed the basketball player rules to effectively allow a zone defense. This helped other teams to defend him with multiple players before he even touched the ball.

BEFORE HE EVEN TOUCHED THE BALL.

Imagine if that rule was never changed and people HAD to guard Shaq 1 on 1 for his entire career. His career would have been even better than it was. The entire NBA colluded to stop one man. For that alone I have to go with Shaq.

These coaches also came to the conclusion that he could not be stopped so they decided to make poward fowards into centers so Shaq would have to go out and check them. The new defense gave the smaller centers help so they didn't have to worry about going 1 on 1 with him.

Shaq was killing it.

People are forgetting Shaq put up numbers while being fucking MAULED. I hated shaq, but I admit that he took a lot of fucking abuse that no other player had to take. He really could have fouled out all your big men by half time. It was crazy.

Tim Duncan's great, but to me, Shaq seems to have the edge. I remember cheering for Tim and the Spurs when they played Shaq. Same with the Kings.

Someone said Shaq didn't rebound:lol:
Someone said Shaq didn't play defense but look at the block shots:lol:
Why do Shaq have the higher FG%

Keep in mind Shaq's last few season made all of his stats drop but like I said in another thread 1 person says something and the rest of the people quote them not knowing that person has no idea what they are talking about. Plus the fact Ducan use to be getting dunked on like the rest of the league. Ole Timmys freethrow is nothing to write home about

Shaq

Seasons: 17

Career Stats: 24.7 PPG, 11.2 RPG, 2.6 APG, 2.3 BPG, 58.2 FG%, 52.8 FT%

Awards: One regular-season MVP; three Finals MVPs, back to back to back

Finals Appearances and Playoff Averages: 6 APP, 25.2 PPG, 12.1 RPG, 2.8 APG, 2.2 BPG, 56.4 FG%, 50.1 FT%

Duncan

Seasons: 12 seasons

Career Stats: 21.4 PPG, 11.7 RPG, 3.2 APG, 2.3 BPG, 50.7 FG%, 68.5 FT%

Awards: Two regular-season MVPs back to back, three Finals MVPs

Finals Appearances and Playoff Averages: 4 APP, 23.3 PPG, 12.6 RPG, 3.5 APG, 2.6 BPG, 50.1 FG%, 68.9 FT%

So, according to your numbers, Tim was a better rebounder, better passer, nearly equal in blocks (despite not being as tall or as big), and a better free throw shooter.
Comparing their selections for All Defensive Teams, it looks like the league says Shaq didn't play defense.
Again, we're talking about one guy who was dominant on one end of the floor and comparing him to a guy who was dominant on both.

My point is to the people that says Shaq didn't play defense or rebound but his numbers are right on par with Ducans. Now you want to say he put up good numbers for his size but he wasn't checking Centers he was checking fowards. Another thing is Ducan was not a dominate defender. Who the hell did he shut down?!!? Ducan was on a good defensive team but again name 1 player this guy shut down bc he wasn't even allowed to check Shaq.

That's what I'm saying...

Tim was a good defender... but people act like he was the best defender on that team... like Bruce Bowen wasn't there...

Also... I've never seen Tim Duncan shut down KG... Amar'e... or Dirk...

BUT... I've seen Camby shut him down... KG shut him down...

Shaq was... UNSTOPPABLE... NO DEBATE!!!!

Tim was NOT... UNSTOPPABLE...

In Tim's best year... he scored 25pts per game... which is GREAT...

BUT... How many 25pts per game did Shaq have...

AND... What defender did have on his team equivalent to Bruce Bowen...

and DO NOT SAY KOBE... :smh:

Kobe was NOT fuckin with BOwen when it came to D... :smh:

As far as better career... It's DIESEL...

I mean, think about the exposure he brought to 3 franchises...

Now, I'm know Tim stayed with only 1...

BUT... It says something when you elevate 3 franchises like Shaq did...

And YES!!!!... That factors into someone's career as well...

Yeah same here but then I noticed Shaq played 19 years and Duncan is in his 15th. Shaq's 15th season numbers were very similar to Duncan's now.

Shaq never made 1st team All-Defense because there were always more deserving big guys who were better around defenders (Robinson, B. Wallace, Mourning)

I guess it comes down to the better free throw shooter
'
I always felt Shaq could've been the greatest center of all time had he just developed a rhythm for shooting free throws.

Tim duncan... all around game! Both sides of the ball. If he wanted to dominate is whoever was gaurding him was in for a long night!!
