Juice was a crime drama/thriller unlike most the other films which were more coming of age/drama films.

I can't even consider Juice a "hood" film, it just happened to take place in the hood.

The dynamic of a group of friends getting a gun, trying to rob a store to "man" up and having one of their friends go batshit crazy was a dope concept at the time. Watching it the first time had me on the edge of my seat, think how the fuck was Q going to survive Bishop. Tupac played the shit out of that role.

Only other film that I would think was as strong would be Menace II Society, for similar reasons regarding O-Dogs character. Hell, there were times I felt O-Dog might fuck Kane up. Dude was a loose cannon you never knew what he would/could do.

Boyz n the Hood is a classic. Saw it in theaters when it came out, but looking back now, it's not as great as I remember. Loved the social issues it brought up, police brutality, gentrification, etc
.. Cube damn near played himself from NWA, and I always hated Trey (Cuba Gooding Jrs. character). Not saying the film didn't age well, but if I had a choice, I'd watch Juice and Menace way before Boyz.

New Jack City was damn near a parody of an action film. Love the movie, but compared to the others mentioned, it's not bad strong in my book.

I chose Menace.
New Jack Was not realistic. At the time it came out, it was an excellent movie. Watch it now and you will see so many things that just dont make sense, knowing what you now know.
New Jersey Drive was good, i watch it whenever i see it on. Underrated movie.
Belly....the first half was great, second half, meh.
if u kno about the history of a lot of kingpins in nyc..njc was way more realistic than u think..as they said in the movie there's a lot of nino browns in the world..a lot of places/projects/hoods got invaded like that..in fact a real good hbo movie starring mario van peoples..it was a lot of stories like this in the 80's and 90's

Menace......followed by New Jack

Boys N The Hood had some funny/unrealistic parts that people didnt grasp.
Like the nigga raking up bags and bags of leaves in the front yard,....yet they had no
trees in their yard.
Where the fuck the leaves come from??

Didn't have time to read all the responses but out of all the movies made in the 90's, "Menace 2 Society" at the time was just very raw, gritty, engaging and very immersive, so it had the most memorable impact on me at that time. That was one of the few movies I could watch over and over again at the time.

The other movies mentioned in your poll ( and poll movie absentee too as well stated by other posters) were all great but Menace 2 Society was as raw as they came at the time.

Yours Truly.......Professor

I would've liked to see New Jersey Drive on the list for my hometown. From this list I'd go with Boys n the hood over menace because Nia Long showed them titties.

"You owe me some money muthafucka!!" "Naw man but here ya go!!!"

We joke around like that all the time lmao

That part is super classic

Another funny part like that was on Friday when Deebo asked the pops did he want sum too n Reynolds Ray was like NO
I don't know why u came around here starting with these ppl to his son lmao

When I look back at Juice, it is a film about a descent into madness. The same reason people enjoyed Breaking Bad and seeing the wimpy, pushover, powerless Walter White turn into this badass who eventually becomes a sociopath is the reason I liked Tupac's character in Juice. That gun lead to the death of a store clerk, Rademez, his best friend Rahiem, and critically injured Steel...all because of the power that piece of metal provides.

Well said ... 'Pac did a solid job with that role. Hard to believe next year will mark the 25th anniversary of the film. Recall watching it a handful of times on VHS back in junior high.
