"Bamboozled" and Dave Chappelle

i saw it eearly with a bunch of industry people on the citywalk, the reactions were priceless, some movies u gotta see at the theatre
muthafuckas was pissed off after it was over

yeah man i dont think dave could believe that neil did that shit
then the story neil tried to put out questioning d's sanity :smh: that's hard man - ultimate betrayal
i wouldnt even want my boy to go through that kind of stress let alone keepin him fucked up to try to make more money
neil is the typical JEW - thats how they are born- i bet he's workin as a producer or exec somewhere

*fixed*

damn son i didnt know he was a jew

brennan?

just read that he was directing now :hmm:
let's guess who was writing most of the material..................

Nah, he's not Jewish (I don't think).

The funny thing is, Neil was trying to get in the business and was working at a comedy club (which is what a lot of not really funny comedians do when they try to get into the biz) and met Dave. They do Half-Baked, it doesn't do well at the theater then they stop speaking. Half Baked gets a big following outside of theaters and Dave gets the show on Comedy Central and he calls up Neil. Dave had already written a lot of the material before getting the show (if you listen to the DVD commetary you'll hear it).

I mean the nigga had NO work in Hollywood before Dave. I mean some small shit but nothing really. Dave blows up and (to his fault) gives Neil a lot of credit for the success. So now Neil's profile blows up and he's thought of as a funny guy (which he really isn't and that's why he doesn't write anymore).

Don't forget Gomi/Florian tomorrow.

I never thought so and I always defended his show against folks questioning the appropriateness of his race stuff on such a mainstream venue. Then I was just watching the 1st season DVDs for the first time in a while last week and it just didn't hit me the same. That reparations sketch seemed borderline than a muhfucka. I used to love that shit.

and this is why if you can help it don't include deadweight out of loyalty

Funny looking back on it now Dave is more sought after as a comedian now than ever. He is becoming more exclusive to book.

Gotta respect him for walking away from the bullshit and guys are right there is a drastic difference between season 1 and 2...

Bamboozled is one of my top favs. I remember going to see it opening day and of course the theater was pretty much empty (I was living in Hawaii at the time so that prob had a lot to do with it). At the end of the movie there were two white women who got up pissed as shit saying "Why doesn't he just come out and say it, all white people are devils" :smh::smh::eek::eek::eek: The bitch totally missed the point of the movie and didn't even realize it had nothing to do with her.

On another note, a couple of months ago I was in my acting class and the teacher (White of course and well respected in the industry) gave me a scene to do from the Steve Harvey show. I chose to do it my way and got some pretty good laughs from my classmates. The teacher wasn't satisfied. I knew what she wanted, but I wasn't going to give her that satisfaction. In a nutshell, she wanted me to coon the scene up :hmm::angry: I just kept doing it different ways without giving her the satisfaction.

anybody got a link to bamboozled? they showed this for free my freshman yr in college and i couldn't process it. Would like to see what its like 12yrs later:cool:

BAMBOOZLED = The Tyler Perry Story... written by Spike Lee

*two cents*

I agree w/ you...totally feel the same way about The Boondocks...I laughed out of ignorance tho...but I think their messages are totally misguided...

Man, people are finally catching on. Fetchit made millions selling out. Anytime you dramatize niggardly actions on music and film, you are selling stereotype for cash period. Absolutely no exception.

I've always maintained that the american people (not just blacks) are morons. If more people were smarter, not educated, but were actually smarter this country would be a better place.

Not trying to rewrite history or anything, but I truly believe that Dave was trying to show people the idiocy of various stereotypes through his satire. This is the same thing that I feel that Boondocks has tried to do.

While both shows are made for you to laugh most people don't go past that. Most people can't see the message behind some of the shows (a problem many influential comics throughout our history have had to deal with). And yeah after a while I'm sure Dave felt people were not laughing with him but at him.

Smart shows like dave's don't last. Either people make those shows become caricatures of themselves or people become "outraged" at the themes of the show.

This is all the while when other baser black comedy shows are lauded and accepted (I'm looking at you Tyler Perry).

It's just the way the world is I suppose.

I've been saying that since I was a teenager and people dont believe me when I do....Just look at the people who watch Tyler Perry and listens to Lil Wayne.....

This country would look at someone that's smart all funny but celebrate stupidity.....:smh::smh::smh::smh::smh:

I went to a show of his in fresno. it was for the showtime special he did later on in san francisco (the latest one forget the name) the thing is i had front row seats to that show and did not even see the standup until i saw it on showtime when it premiered. the reason? all of the college white boys screaming im rick james bitch and im rich bitch and all of that shit so frequently that he couldnt even get through his set. he begged them to stop and even looked at me and my friends (black guys with front row seats) shaking our heads in disgust at the shit. he said "see you get it" pointing at us and then talking to the crowd saying he came to enlighten and make us laugh but you guys wont even be quiet long enough to let me do my thing. he said he could sit there and smoke a cig and still get paid the same amount so it was up to us to either let us be entertained or waste our money. the white boys kept going thinking it was funny and yelling out nigga and all of that stuff. dave took out a cig started smoking on stage and sat there until his time was up and left. end of the show
i was so angry at the crowd i didnt know what to do. but the mexicans that attended did. being in the front it took us a while to get out which was in the back, so by the time we got out there were about 4 white guys with bloodied heads because mexicans had cracked bottles over them and fought them for disrupting the show.

:smh::smh::smh::smh::smh::smh::smh:

a very UNDER APPRECIATED film...

when the man Spike leaves this earth decades from now..

he will FINALLY be APPRECIATED...:smh:

You would think someone as talent as him would have people helping him out making a movie....Where is Oprah,Will Smith and etc backing him...

:smh::smh::smh::smh::smh:

niggas is a beautiful thing

write that down

and

i don't want anything to do with anything black for at least a week

:lol::lol::lol:

:cool:

Just got through watching Bamboozled,I feel like beating the shit out of a white person .....:hmm::hmm::hmm::hmm::hmm:

The movie is really really really good and every single thing in the movie is on point.....

The thing is w Chappelle, is that as a comic he makes jokes and its for ppl who get the joke. But when random ppl who dont get the irony or are laughing at him and calling him a ****** at his shows, then the premise is lost. THAT woke him up and he saw that comedy Central wouldnt give him creative control he bounced. Its like if you were making fun of cooning w your blk friends but someone white came up and started laughing. You wouldnt know if they are laughing w you or at you.

Sampson -

Great analysis on Bamboozled/Chappelle and the same with the other poster who mentioned the Boondocks.

Funny thing is the Boondocks comic strip/books, is totally different from the TV show.

It might be all fun and games making jokes about racist topics, but in the end we make ourselves look bad.

I'm not saying Dave and I had a personal convo or some shit. :lol:

It's basically what you would think it was. Neal, seemingly, was working as an agent for the network basically trying to encourage Dave to keep going and do more and more stuff that was outright buffoonish. Pressuring him hard to keep doing the show when he knew Dave wasn't feeling it. Dave almost walked out during season 2 but Neil calmed him down. Word is that Dave always had doubts about the authenticity of their relationship and that Neil was using him as a vehicle to make money. And that Season 3 fiasco pretty much solidified it in his eyes. 2nd (maybe) hand information, nonetheless it makes perfect sense.
