AT&T stops Iphone online sales in ny due to network failures

That's a damn shame. There's just no rebuttal for this. There's just no excuse to have a major city have network issues like that. :smh:

Daphne: Welcome to AT&T online Sales support. How may I assist you with placing your order today?

Laura: Hi, I was looking at the iPhone 3Gs and the system tells me that I cannot order one in my ZIP code. My zip code is 11231. (Brooklyn, NY) Is this true? Are iPhones no longer available in New York City?

Daphne: I am happy to be helping you today . Yes, this is correct the phone is not offered to you because New York is not ready for the iPhone.

Daphne: You don't have enough towers to handle the phone.

Laura: Thank you for your help. So the phone is not available to people anywhere in the city?

Daphne: Yes this is correct Laura.

HAHAHAHA!!!!

U can't even use the "God" phone in NYC?!?

LMAO!!!!!

man no wonder AT&T was pissed at fake steve jobs and his network flash mob plans a few weeks ago...if that shit actually happened the iphone woulda really killed AT&T's network...literally!

This is not a good look for AT&T at all nor for the iphone....a fucked up network and a device that kills networks...
WOW!

Online support just tells you anything to get you to stop chatting. Hell if you have ever done tech support you'll know its better sometimes to out right lie instead of saying you don't know, or trying to explain whats really is going on. Tell them it's blocked because of fraud and then they'll demand your supervisor because you just accused them of fraud.

I'll hold judgment until I hear a real response from someone official, not some call center that probably don't know shit.

Why is everyone surprised.. doesn't everyone know AT&T sucks? There are multiple threads about how much AT&T sucks....

It's actually a sign that the iPhone is TOO good.

The iPhone is a subtantial amount of mobile web traffic. They have music and movie downloads over the air in addition the apps.

This is at&t's shortcoming, not apple's.

You guys are so quick to jump on shit you never think things through.

If they didn't do that.. I'd think something was wrong with them. They been mad at the iPhone for 3 years!

Shit like this make me feel bad for all the non-tech savy iPhone users. At least the guys here have ways to get around the shortcomings of AT&T's network. Those not so fortunate have to suffer for two years or take an L in paying that ETF.

i live in NY and i have the iphone but i dont have any of these issues that i keep on hearing about. i think its strange.

same here, just before this post i was talking in another thread about how i have no iphone issues, my brother either, he is just about 2 miles away, my girlfriend is about 7 miles away no issues on either location, or work

companies hate products that work

4, you forgot the year it was announced prior to the release :lol::lol::lol:

10 Reasons Why Apple, Not AT&T, Is to Blame for iPhone Flaws

1. Apple entered into an exclusive contract

It's easy to talk about AT&T as if it's a company that doesn't understand the desires of the user, but it was Apple that decided to enter into an exclusive agreement with the carrier. I'm willing to bet that any carrier would have been happy to offer the iPhone. Apple could have brought it to multiple networks. But AT&T gave Apple a sweetheart deal that Steve Jobs couldn't decline. Since then, we've been forced to deal with AT&T's poor network.

2. Apple sets App Store policy

Although AT&T has asked Apple to institute some rules for the company's App Store, it's Apple that has set its App Store policy, not AT&T. So when neat apps get rejected from the store or useless apps make their way into the marketplace, it's Apple's fault. And it's important not to forget that.

3. The company has never played well with developers

Apple has a long history of having problems with developers. With Mac OS X, Apple still limits third-party involvement, citing concerns over the stability and security of its operating system. That may sound like a prudent policy, but let's face it; the more third-party apps, the richer the experience. Considering third-party developers continue to gripe over the iPhone, should we really blame any other company but Apple for it? I don't think so.

4. Apple makes hardware decisions

Those that wish the iPhone had a physical keyboard can't blame AT&T for that. Those that wanted a camcorder prior to the iPhone 3G S' launch couldn't take AT&T to task. When it comes to hardware problems, it's Apple that deserves to bear the brunt of those criticisms. The company is in full control over the design of the iPhone.

5. Apple makes software decisions

The same can be said for Apple's software. When users begged for copy and paste, it wasn't AT&T that held it up, it was Apple. The iPhone is littered with software quirks that need to be improved. But that won't happen until Apple decides to update the software with those improvements. No other company can do it.

6. At any point, Apple can work with other carriers

Let's not forget that there are several other wireless carriers competing against AT&T that would welcome the iPhone. There are also millions of Verizon Wireless subscribers, Sprint subscribers and T-Mobile subscribers that would love the opportunity to use the iPhone. And many AT&T users want to switch. So instead of blaming AT&T for not being able to compete with Verizon Wireless, maybe we should blame Apple for not bringing the iPhone to other carriers

7. It's Apple's iPhone

In the end, it's important to remember that the iPhone is Apple's product. The device isn't owned by AT&T and it hasn't been modified by the competition. Any issues users may have should be directed to Steve Jobs and Company.

8. Steve Jobs isn't infallible

Speaking of Steve Jobs, he isn't infallible. He doesn't always make the best decisions. And in the moments when his decisions impact users, it's too easy to point fingers at AT&T or other companies. If Steve Jobs makes a poor decision, it should be recognized for what it is. And blame should be placed where it belongs: on his shoulders.

9. Apple knew what it was getting with AT&T

When the iPhone hit store shelves in 2007, it was no secret that AT&T wasn't the best carrier in the market. Coverage was a little suspect, 3G data was practically nonexistent. Regardless, Apple decided to form an exclusive partnership with AT&T that, two years removed, has caused many users to wish for an iPhone on other networks.

10. Would Verizon make the problems go away?

As we consider where the blame for iPhone flaws can be placed, we need to determine if those flaws will be gone if the iPhone was made available on Verizon Wireless' network, rather than AT&T's. It's a hard sell. A network can't change Apple's App Store policies. A new carrier can't improve the virtual keyboard. A new provider can't even deliver the features iPhone owners are waiting for. We need to keep that in mind.

It's easy to blame AT&T. Maybe it's time to point some fingers at Apple too.

trust me.. we laugh at you iPhone haters EVERY DAY! :D

no one hating. You can't make calls on a PHONE. You have to void your phone just to make it do what you want. Your network can't handle your presence.

Y'all iphoners brought this upon poor At&T...if u hadn't jailbroken you'd have to live within the network rules that everyone does. Now watch AT&T create that special per megabyte plan exclusive to Iphoners...at the rate y'all go y'all gonna get hit with that 1g cellphone bill after that but its ok to keep your iphone working u'll pay it.
And when the crippled 4g comes out u'll pay again but u won't come to VZW so u'll b stuck on crap ass AT&T.

A phone with all the bells and whistles u can't do shit with.

Being slaves to "whats hot and Trends" Followers of Followers worshipping Steve Jobs with a fucked up device that u gotta jailbreak to get basic functions....

Believe me. No one is hating on that.

They won't hear you. They too lost in the rapture.

I make calls every day on my phone.. and my warranty is not voided. Why do you speak about something you know nothing about? You do know that makes you look like an idiot, right?

Are you mad at AT&T or the iPhone? I'm confused about why.. since you use neither

But a question to you. Why do you care? And why are you so quick to say that the people who say everything is fine just drunk the koolaid? People chose what they chose for good reason

The iPhone accounts for 50%+ of all mobile web traffic.

And in NY it seems EVERYONE has an iphone.

Apparently AT&T doesn't have any blackberry users on their network.
Come on. With the app store, itunes store and far superior web browser the iphone blows the blackberry out of the water when it comes to data usage.

And I'm saying this as a HUGE blackberry fan.

You're not taking into perspective the amount of blackberry users who use it for corporate use or that the majority of iPhone users do not have jailbroken phones. Corporate blackberry data usage >>>>>> regular non-jailbroken iPhone data usage

This is something AT&T should have done a long time ago. You can't sell internet service to people and not have the infrastructure in place to support it, doesn't matter what handset they were pushing. This is exactly what those greedy bastards at AT&T was doing. NY had a reported 30 percent dropped call rate in NY city alone with is unacceptable. Fuck em.
