AT&T is close to acquiring Time Warner for $85 billion

A deal may arrive as soon as Monday
by Nick Statt @nickstatt Oct 21, 2016, 7:39p

AT&T is nearing a deal to acquire Time Warner for $110 per share, a price tag to the tune of $85 billion for the telecom. According to Reuters, AT&T has reached an agreement in principle, which is a kind of stepping stone on the path to a formal contract. It essentially puts in place the terms of a future contract, but it is not an indication of a closed deal.

However, a finalized deal could be approved as soon as Sunday and may be announced on Monday, according to Bloomberg, which earlier today originally reported the per-share acquisition amount. At $110 a share, AT&T would be paying a roughly 23 percent premium on Time Warner’s market value at close this afternoon, which was around $70 billion. AT&T is worth about $226 billion.

If AT&T does indeed buy Time Warner, it would be the largest acquisition of the year and give AT&T control of HBO, CNN, Warner Bros. Entertainment, among the company’s many other subsidiaries. This all part of AT&T’s grander plans to better compete with the likes of Comcast and best rivals like Verizon by becoming both a internet services company and the owner of a media empire. Last year, AT&T purchased DirectTV for $48.5 billion to further this goal. It is unlikely that the deal would be blocked by anti-trust regulators, Reuters reports, although their may be some neccesary strings to attach before the US Justice Department approves it.

Update: Removed reference to home internet, which was spun off into an independent company called Time Warner Cable.

Yes they are... People dont even know the half of it man.

And DirecTV customer service and product quality has taken a fucking nose dive since AT&T took over.

Direct TV has always been shitty but now they don't even give a fuck shitty. I haven't had HD T.V. in months. I called to complain they're like 'we'll you may need to adjust your satellite...' I'm like nigga that's YOUR JOB! My job is to pay you every month!!!

Minus whale go back to U-Verse...

I had direct tv has a kid. Their dish outages were awesome; trying to find that magical signal is what defined by childhood trying to watch a west coast basketball game.

Fuck AT&T. I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan and these asshats have been trying to get me to drop it for years.

Now whenever I call customer service I swear once they review my account they intentionally become shitty and rude.

Jokes on you niggas I'm going to keep the unlimited data forever and I'll never ever ever ever drop it! I have a Verizon phone line too

Damn. Time warner really wants out the game. :smh:
AT&T really wants that monopoly.

DirecTV used to have the BEST customer service tho. That was their calling card. The minute AT&T took over it went to shit.
Either that or AT&T really wants there shit back and been building piece by piece since they lost that antitrust case in the 80's....

AT&T wants all the real estate and tech. They want control over every wire and signal coming into your home.

We are all fucked as consumers.

William J. Baer https://www.justice.gov/atr/william-j-baer-meet-former-assistant-attorney-general
who is the Obama Administration head of the department Anti-Trust (who resigned in April) which is part of the Attorney General's office led by Loretta Lynch is just a shill for mega-corporations.
Just like Eric Holder & Loretta Lynch when he leaves government service he will go back to a private LLC corporate "white-shoe" law firm and earn $$$$ millions of dollars per year as a corporate attorney making sure that corporate CEO's don't go to jail (deferred prosecution agreements) and that corporate mergers are unimpeded regardless of their affect on consumers.
Eric Holder went back to the corporate fixer (keep CEO's out of jail) law firm Covington & Burling, reportedly being paid more than $10,000,000 a year.
William Baer's successor

Renata B. Hesse is just another corporate shill who won't stop any of these detrimental to American consumers mega-mergers.

Walgreen is taking over Rite-Aid after already swallowing Duane-Reade.
Monopoly capitalism.
Under this current environment, and it won't get any better under Hillary, I don't think the government would block a merger between Bank Of America and Citibank or a merger of UPS and Federal Express.

It's funny watching Americans complain about companies.

big difference between companies an corporations..

anyone can start a company...

we complain about corporations..

they run the world..

if you aint part of the 13 families, you aint owning no dam corporation...

Im surprised how many folks dont know how the real world works...

They tried that same shit with me like 2 years ago. That's was the last month that I had cable before I cut the cord. Talking about I only have 2 options. I need to go outside and adjust my satellite or wait a fucking week or more for a technician to come out. I was like fuck no. How about option number 3, transfer me to the cancellation department.

Oh and they make sure that canceling your service is a huge pain in the ass too. I'll never go back to cable or Comcast.

The government never should've fucked with AT&T to begin with, there's was no need it was a natural monopoly.

Charter bought Time Warner Cable. They are gonna change the name to Spectrum. Time Warner and Time Warner Cable were two different companies.

man i was confused as hell too

thanks for the explanation

Hoe much you pay?

It's cheaper woth the new unlimited plans and the throttle kicks in at 22G instead of 5G

$70 a month with unlimited data and the old 300 minutes with rollover.

I also have an old corporate discount they haven't removed.

How much are the new "unlimited" plans? I have never worried about data usage my entire cellular history.

It's not the TV se

Won't include the cable/internet company they already sold to spectrum

This is a content play, and more about Netflix than Comcast
Understood... But its still be networks... So you have a media and telecommunications behemoth.. Still a regulatory nightmare for the consumer. One guy owning all the pay for play media... As well the bulk of the content being peddled. :smh:
