AT&T is close to acquiring Time Warner for $85 billion

Time warner just merged with some companies earlier this year. They're call spectrum now.

Yea, that was Time Warner Cable. The parent company Time Warner spun off AOL and Time Warner Cable a few months ago. Eventho they have the same name, Time Warner Cable is not affiliated with Time Warner anymore.

I think that they just merged with Charter.

yeah i thought they was suppose to be bought by a different. Company earlier this year.

Yes, Fox, Apple and Google supposedly wanted to acquire TW too. They are all taking turns at the club asking Ms. Warner to go home with them.

She already told Fox FU....I am expensive.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^
bingo

this is the endgame...makes old ma bell seem almost quaint in comparison

They want to own the content that they send or stream to your devices too.

The NBA, MLB, March Madness, Hulu, Game of Thrones, Bugs Bunny, DC films and cartoons, Harry Potter, etc. They have never been in the content game before.....just like Apple and Google. And nowadays....content is king.

Some have said that this deal will be announced by tomorrow.

Obama basically ran a fucking shell game on us. Liberals, progressives, Black people got fucking PLAYED.

hardest hustle game EVER. Obama is a fucking mastermind....Ma Bell has been plotting this shit for decades.

These companies made billions post recession, due to free money...and its conglomerate CITY.

Somewhere bill gates is sitting back mad as fuck that he had to basically limit Microsoft control, prop up Apple and hand over control to Balmer, due to antitrust back door deals. Now ATT is like fuck that we want it all.

In the grand scheme of things....if you don't like it, what are ya gonna do about it? Obey or don't have their services.

:angry::smh::angry:

AT&T is using this merger to acquire cable networks that it can use to control going onto a service like Slingtv or other IPTV. This is why you see NBC Universal and Comcast merger. You won't be able to just get Internet and skip TV offerings.

It could be considered anticompetitive and a monopoly in this light if they refuse to offer these channels to other.

I'm confused as hell, I had Verizon Fios since it's introduction and loved it 100mbs down 99.9% up time, then I recently switched to AT&T had it for a week and cancelled it, it was horrible they lied and told me fiber optic but then ran access thru my phone lines:hmm:
I told them if not fiber to my box forget it, so I switched to TWC they gave me a deal since they only have 50mbs down in their ultimate internet package they said$44 per month no contract, I said hell yeah... unlimited to boot, hard to pass up decent high speed and no limits on bandwidth, uses existing coax cable connection but I did not have to get cable channels, now AT&T talking about buying TWC out...will my speed increase? will unlimited bandwidth still apply?, will my monthly charge still stay the same,,,,this some bullshit but maybe not:dunno: Just don't know.

I guess we'll know on Monday.

AT&T speeds suck. Their internet services suck. You never get what they promise. You need to do that speed test while their tech person is on site and go :hmm:

AT&T really wants that monopoly.

DirecTV used to have the BEST customer service tho. That was their calling card. The minute AT&T took over it went to shit.

AT&T wants all the real estate and tech. They want control over every wire and signal coming into your home.

Let's play a little game.......

If I know:
- who you are
- everything about you
- what you search for online i.e. what you are thinking and when
- what you did, social media
- who you talk to and how often
- how you respond after watching: news, movies, any show
- the content of all of your communication needs
- your location every sec

Who am I?

Gubment.

And long story short.... They (AT&T) have been lending them (big brother) use of their lines, satellites and resources for decades to surveil the masses and assist with investigations and intel on tax payers... Been bedfellows.

Yeah they did and still no NBATv in my market.

:curse:

Fuck AT&T. I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan and these asshats have been trying to get me to drop it for years.

Now whenever I call customer service I swear once they review my account they intentionally become shitty and rude.

Jokes on you niggas I'm going to keep the unlimited data forever and I'll never ever ever ever drop it! I have a Verizon phone line too
I just dropped the unlimited data service. A gentleman on this board gave me 26% off my service about 8 years ago and I only use 6gb. So I now have the $80/mo plan with 26% off. I used to pay $110 with unlimited.

$70 a month with unlimited data and the old 300 minutes with rollover.

I also have an old corporate discount they haven't removed.

How much are the new "unlimited" plans? I have never worried about data usage my entire cellular history.

300 minutes? How long have you had that plan

I haven't had a minute plan in ages

As stated earlier.....Time Warner Cable and Time Warner are not affiliated. Two different things. Time Warner Cable was bought by Charter, which will change its name to Spectrum. If you currently have hsd from TWC, the only thing that will change as far as Ive been told is your speed will INCREASE (depending on your current speed, up to 200MBP down without a price increase). Its already like that in certain markets. That was the whole point of going full digital. So this whole AT@T business doesn't have shit to do with TIME WARNER CABLE.

Thank you..appreciate you breaking that down.

Watch the CEO of AT&T — and new owner of Time Warner — explain why Black Lives Matter
BY PETER KAFKA OCT 22, 2016, 2:13

An extraordinary speech from Randall Stephenson: “I’m not asking you to be tolerant of each other. Tolerance is for cowards.”

451153614.0.jpg

Randall Stephenson runs AT&T. If shareholders, and ultimately regulators, approve, he is also going to run Time Warner after buying the entertainment conglomerate for more than $80 billion.

So you should probably know who he is. Here’s one way to learn about him: Watch this 11-minute speech he gave to AT&T employees last month in Dallas, where he explains that many white people — like himself — have no idea what life is like for black Americans.

This is a topic most leaders of giant, publicly held companies would rather not address at all.

And if they did, they would stake out a very safe space on in the middle of the ideological spectrum, arguing that “both sides” “have a point.”

For part of Stephenson’s speech, that appears to be where he is going to end up. He uses the experiences of a black friend of his to explain what racial bias looks like in 2016, and admits that he had no idea what that looked like until recently.

But then he goes further, and argues that there’s no equivalence between his friend’s experience and complaints white people have about their lives:

“When a person struggling with what’s been broadcast on our airwaves says ‘black lives matter,’ we should not say ‘all lives matter’ to justify ignoring the real need for change,” Stephenson says.

“I’m not asking you to be tolerant of each other. Tolerance is for cowards. Being tolerant requires nothing from you but to be quiet and not make waves, holding tightly to your views and judgments without being challenged.”

“Do not tolerate each other. Work hard. Move into uncomfortable territory and understand each other.”

Comcast/NBC
Verizon/Hearst
AT&T/DirecTv/Time Warner
:smh:

Apple better buy Netflix in the next 18 months. It was reported that they had preliminary discussions with Time Warner, but that was early stage talks and nothing substantive came out of it.

I heard that after their deal, Comcast/NBC's stock went up 150% over 5 years. So it worked out for them.

Ma Bell is still alive and kicking. She was suppose to be dead a long time ago but here she is buying up another large corporation.

I happen to be an investor and not a consumer. :money:
Good for you. Props. It's a great time to be putting your money into the market. But remember, we are all consumers. We're talking media and the pipelines they run on. This will affect everyone. The trickle down will be massive and reshape business, media, and the culture for a long, long time.
