Are we killing ourselves: Food & products to look out for.......

Try Dr Bonners it is natural and very good. I like lavender, tee tree oil, eucalyptus (sp), peppermint are great flavors.

Some of my fav's too BDD. The tea tree is also antibacterial but I have to say I used to supervise some students in a health clinic and a few of them used those natural deodorants and :smh:...PLEASE if you have a job working up close and personal with the public test drive that stuff over a weekend or something before coming to work. Some of the clients were not happy. :smh:

Tru...I have heard some people use limes as well for natural deodorants.

Does anyone know of a good water filtering system. I heard Brita was okay but didn't get all that crazy stuff that in tap water. I have a filter for my shower. I heard about the British BerkeFeld from friends and Alex jones site. Anyone have an experience with this. It is to be the greatest water filter system out on the market? Is this worth it??

For the 6 bottles inside it is $475.00. I'll pay if its' worth it and will help in the long run.

I do reading something off of the Net. I was about a nutritionist on Oprah. He gave a list of things that were not good for the body. I don't don't have the list but I'll memorize it.

1. No Trans Fat

2. Eat 100 percent whole wheat bread (no HFCS)

3. Use canola oil if you fry food, not lard

4. As previously said, no high fructose corn syrup.

5. Something about saturated fats, can't remember

6. I can't remember number 6.

I try my best to eat organic. Also, I read an article on phosphoric acid which is found in colas and teas. The article said that when independent studies showed that when you put a chicken bone in a bowl of phosphoric acid, the acid will eat up the bone in a 24 to 48 hours. It also stated that Coca Cola was used to clean up blood on the ground after accidents.

CO SIGN EVERY THING YOU SAID.

www.lush.com

This website has all natural deodorants and soaps, lotions, etc. I love their stuff.

http://www.basin.com/default.php
They have a lot of the same stuff but seem to be quite a bit cheaper.
They also have 2 for 1 sales quite often.
I can vouch for the body butter and the massage bars, haven't tried much else from there.

For those that use Tom's products, they are good compared to mainstream products but bottom of the barrel as far as natural products go.
For natural products I would recommend Ayurveda products.
This is just one of many Ayurveda sites for an example:

http://www.mapi.com/index.html

The toothpaste is really good and contains all natural teeth whitening and cavity fighting ingredients used in India for centuries.

I know this site has been mentioned quite a bit on BGOL but I have to give them another shout:

http://www.dherbs.com/

I have tried supplements from websites from the cheapest to the most expensive and I would have to give dherbs the nod for best bang for the buck between cost and quality.

For those that want to try some cutting edge supplements/products:

http://www.gematria.com/

My brother met the Dr./owner of this website when he was on a worldwide quest to cure my nephew of brain cancer who sadly passed away last Nov. after a near decade battle with the disease.
This doctor seems genuinely interested in helping people live longer and healthier lives.
His products are spendy so be warned but there is nothing that I know of on the market like it.

Peace Megatron,

One of the greatest crimes perpetrated by the food industry against people is with the use of oil for high temperature frying. Canola oil, vegetable oil, corn oil, ALL of the oils you see sitting in the supermarket in clear bottles are sensitive to light and heat; meaning that they will become rancid if exposed to light and heat. yet there they are sitting in bottles exposed day in and day out to light and on sale to us for use in frying foods. This is to say nothing of the methods used to extract those oils which involve high heat to begin with. This is the reason fried foods are so deleterious to your health.

These fuckin savages KNOW this yet no warning and they are allowed to sell these toxins to unsuspecting people the live long day. :smh: The only oil that should be used for frying is cold pressed extra virgin olive oil. Even then you should still not fry food at high temperatures. Coconut oil can also be used. Notice even these oils are sold in opaque bottles which protect it from light.

Deodorants containing Aluminium

Deodorant 'may be linked to breast cancer'

A link has been found between aluminium in deodorants and cancer, according to British scientists.

Tests found that women who used deodorants had deposits of aluminium in their outer breasts. The samples were taken from women who had undergone a mastectomy for breast cancer.

Aluminium is not normally found in the human body and scientists are reasonably convinced the presence of the metal means it is being absorbed from anti-perspirant sprays or roll ons. Most deodorants contain aluminium salts, because the metal is effective at stopping skin sweating.

Dr Chris Exley, from Keele University, who carried out the tests, has already raised concern about the aluminium content of sun creams, fearing it could put users at increased risk of developing skin cancer and Alzheimer's.

His small study involved measuring how much metal was found in breast tissue taken from 17 breast cancer patients who had mastectomies at Wythenshaw Hospital, Manchester.

He found that the aluminium content of breast tissue was significantly higher in the outer breast.

Dr Exley's study received funding from Genesis, a UK charity dedicated to preventing breast cancer. A report into his findings is to be published in the November issue of the Journal of Inorganic Biochemistry.

Dr Exley said: "We found there was a wide variation in concentrations of aluminium. Some patients had low concentrations while others had quite high concentrations.

"What we found among all the women is that they all had higher concentrations in the breast tissue closest to the underarm compared to more central tissue, for example below the nipple.

"We don't know that aluminium originated from antiperspirant but one can put two and two together and make a guess on that. The next work will be to see if the aluminium is coming from antiperspirant or elsewhere. We are going to do what we can to follow up this study with future research. Funding is the main barrier to that."

Dr Exley added: "Aluminium is known to cause cancer in animal models. We need to make sure aluminium in antiperspirants isn't contributing to breast cancer."

Dr Exley said manufacturers used aluminium in deodorants because it was very effective in preventing sweating.

He said: "There are some non-aluminium- based antiperspirants but they don't work as well. Myth and legend tells us aluminium is safe but reality shows us not that it isn't safe but that we don't know. Not knowing is not a reason for assuming safety."

However, Antonia Dean, a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Breast Cancer Care said: "This study found that 17 women with breast cancer all had aluminium present in the under-arm area of the breast.

"However, it has not established where the aluminium came from, whether it may have contributed to the development of the disease or whether similar levels could be found in women who do not have breast cancer.

"Further, large-scale studies are needed on this issue to enable women to make an informed choice about aluminium containing products. There is insufficient evidence to establish any kind of link between aluminium in deodorants and breast cancer on the basis of this research alone."

And Dr Christopher Flower, director-general of the Cosmetic, Toiletry & Perfumery Association, said: "I would say that this small study does not present any evidence at all of a link between breast cancer and the use of antiperspirants containing aluminium.

"We do not believe that aluminium is absorbed into the body from the use of antiperspirants."

I tell cats the people I see live the longest eat the least!!!!

But these fucks won't listen, they hell bent on eating 6-7 times a day cause that is what all the fitness mags are on now.

I tell them the great benefits of fasting and they look like  and say "I will lose muscle."

Eat less, live longer. Fast once a month. The healing power of fasting in one of the oldest known health secrets of man, but it is lost on most humanoid westerners who are brainwashed by greedy corporations to eat, eat and eat some more.

Hey Cisco... When u say fast once a month, what is the length of the fast(one day, two days, etc.)
Please elaborate.

dont be so quick to buy shit because it says organic or natural.
a lot of companies have been busted for false advertisement.....and somewhat monopolizing and over pricing...see wholefoods market.

you can get a lot of healthy things right out of your regular drug store and grocery store. also....
a lot of personal hygiene products can be homemade....save money!

research people.
dont just go on a paranoid shopping spree and buy shit just cause.

as for the deordorant....just read the lables.
the mass majority ofthem state ather they have metals in them or not.
an example of a metal free stick...Adidas deordorant....metal free....can be brought at most drug stores.

dont want to buy can foods.....dont have a lot of money for whole foods.....buy frozen.
youll still get the health benefits if you cook them properly.

most people get sick from certain products because they abuse those product.

sugar substitute...try stevia...get a box of 100 packs from your health food store for under $12.

meats....well ..dont eat too much.
yeah.,.you can fine some farm raised meats/fishes here and there...but their gonna hit your pockets up hard.

just read lables people.....like i said.....theres a lot....and i mean a lot....of healthy items you can get right out of your neighborhood.

you can avoid some things...but some things you cant.
thats why it good to have self control.....then maybe youll live a longer/healthier life.

i could get real deep into this...but im tired and dont feel like typing anymore.

peace

This was my favorite gum........

stridegum.jpg

But then I looked at the highlighted part in the back and looked up the info :hmm:

Chewing gum side effect

CAROLYN DEAN, M.D., N.D., RESPONDS: Experts disagree, but I wouldn't recommend chewing this gum. Phenylalanine, a common ingredient in sugarless gum and other sugar-free foods, is an amino acid and component of the artificial sweetener known as aspartame, or NutraSweet. The warning you mention is directed at people with phenylketonuria (PKU), a disease that prevents metabolization of phenylalanine. If too much phenylalanine builds up in the bloodstream of someone with PKU, that person may have brain problems and seizures. Not enough research has been done to determine whether healthy people are affected by phenylalanine.

You may have noticed bottles of phenylalanine at your natural food store. Phenylalanine is a precursor to two major neurotransmitters, dopamine and norepinephrine. Some studies suggest that high doses (500 to 1,500 mg) of supplemental phenylalanine alter these brain chemicals in a way that relieves depression. However, the benefits of phenylalanine are poorly understood. Because of its possible side effects, I would err on the side of caution and avoid it.

I'm more concerned about the effects that other ingredients in aspartame have on your health. While some studies have found aspartame safe, others link it to headaches and fibromyalgia, as well as to other health problems. Some neurosurgeons believe that the sweetener disrupts your brain function by overstimulating your neurons.

I personally don't advise daily consumption of aspartame or phenylalanine in any amount. Instead of gum, try chewing on a whole clove or tea-tree-flavored toothpick. These options freshen your breath naturally and will help fight bacteria in your mouth.

More on sugar-free gum.........

Phenylalanine - Aspartame

Phenylalanine is a hidden danger to anyone consuming aspartame. Most consumers don't know that too much Phenylalanine is a neurotoxin and excites the neurons in the brain to the point of cellular death.

ADD/ADHD, emotional and behavioral disorders can all be triggered by too much Phenylalanine in the daily diet. If you are one in ten thousand people who are PKU or carry the PKU gene, Phenylalanine can cause irreversible brain damage and death, especially when used in high quantities or during pregnancy. Phenylalanine is 50% of aspartame, and to the degree humans consume diet products, Phenylalanine levels are reaching a dangerous peak.

It is important to learn about the ingredients within your foods, especially isolated amino acids like Phenylalanine. They are in combination within nature for a reason - they don't belong in isolated form for the healthy human diet.

Phenylalanine - Aspartame

Nutrition fact about Phenylalanine in aspartame:

The 1976 Groliers encyclopedia states cancer cannot live without phenylalanine. Phenylalanine makes up 50% of aspartame.

Phenylalanine is one of the essential amino acids found in proteins, but I am one of the believers that amino acids should be eaten in combination, not in isolated form. Nature provides amino acids in combination; only man isolates them for processing purposes.

Phenylalanine is found naturally in foods such as eggs, milk, bananas, and meat. If you are PKU (Phenylketonuric) or sensitive to phenylalanine, you will react to the phenylalanine in aspartame. You may want to get a blood test to check for this condition. Over the past 20 years, humans have become more aware of PKU reactions because human beings began using isolated phenylalanine to the degree it is harmful to some individuals, many as aspartame side effects. My suggestion would be to research PKU and phenylalanine extensively. Phenylalanine can be very harmful to diabetics.

Read all food labels and avoid anything with isolated amino acids. You want to buy products with at least eight amino acids in combination.

I guess if you talk about it people listen. I posted the side effects and a Documentary on the second page.

It's all love i guess brotha.

Also if you still want to chew gum without Aspartame...choose a cinnamon gum. Any Cinnamon gum (Like Big Red) does not have Aspartame. I forgot the reason why, but it is a fact.

The down side is that in it's place it some do have sucralose (like Big Red).

Public health and safety concerns

Migraine headaches

After FDA approval, a study published in the Journal of Head and Face Pain reported sucralose as a possible trigger for migraine patients.[19] Another study published in the Journal of Mutation Research linked high doses (2 g per kg; equal to 10,000 packets per day for the 150 lb person in the above example) of sucralose to DNA damage in mice.[20]

Thymus

Concerns have been raised about the effect of sucralose on the thymus, an organ that is important to the immune system. A report from NICNAS cites two studies on rats, both of which found "a significant decrease in mean thymus weight" at a certain dose.[21] The sucralose dosages which caused the thymus gland effects referenced in the NICNAS report was 3000 mg/kg bw/day for 28 days. For an 80 kg (176 lb) human, this would mean a 28-day intake of 240 grams of sucralose, which is equivalent to more than 20,000 individual Splenda packets/day for approximately one month. The dose required to provoke any immunological response was 750 mg/kg bw/day,[22] or 60 grams of sucralose per day, which is more than 5,000 Splenda packets/day (there are 11.9 mg of sucralose in a 1g retail packet of Splenda). These and other studies were considered by regulators before concluding that sucralose was safe. However, because some ingested sucralose is broken down and absorbed by the body there is concern that chronic consumption may lead to thymus shrinkage or other side-effects.

Gastrointestinal tract

The bulk of sucralose ingested does not leave the gastrointestinal tract and is directly excreted in the feces while 11-27% of it is absorbed.[2] The amount that is absorbed from the GI tract is largely removed from the blood stream by the kidneys and excreted in the urine with 20-30% of the absorbed sucralose being metabolized.[2] According to one study, sucralose is digestible by a number of microorganisms and is broken down once released into the environment.[23] However, measurements by the Swedish Environmental Research Institute have shown that wastewater treatment has little effect on sucralose, which is present in wastewater effluents at levels of several μg/l. [24]There are no known eco-toxicological effects at such levels, but the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency warns that there may be a continuous increase in levels if the compound is only slowly degraded in nature.[25]

Organochlorides

The basis for concern about the safety of sucralose derives from the class of chemical to which it belongs. The sucralose molecule is an organochloride (or chlorocarbon). Since some organochlorides are known to cause adverse health effects in extremely small concentrations, critics of sucralose feel the extra-high burden of proof is warranted. Although some chlorocarbons are toxic, sucralose is not known to be toxic in small quantities and is extremely insoluble in fat; it can not accumulate in fat like chlorinated hydrocarbons. In addition, sucralose does not break down or dechlorinate.[26]

In contrast to these concerns, many organochlorides occur naturally in food sources such as seaweed.[27]

Weight gain

Research where rats were given yogurt sweetened with either sugar or saccharin found that the rats given saccharin gained more weight, because they ate more afterwards, presumably due to compensatory effects. It is hypothesized that this effect would apply to all non-nutritive sweeteners, and would also be seen in humans. [28]

Allergic reactions

There have been anecdotal reports of "allergic" reactions and other adverse reactions to Splenda

Been using natural crystal as a deodorant for years. One will last months. Just a note that the odor that comes out of your body is a factor of what is put into it. Clean the inside of your body and be conscious of what you put into it and you will find that you can go without deodorant altogether.

word, i just bought some of this "thai crystal deodorant" at an herbal store and it works like a charm. the one i bought is just a big crystal with no wrapping and only cost $3.75 . i recommend everyone get up on this its cheap AND it works better than the crap gillette sells.

Time to improve our health!

Life expectancy has risen dramatically, and people continue with this nonsense about things killing us. You should be pretty happy that you live in this time and place. If this was the 1800's you would be taking mercury for many ailments.
Not really... its more like premature death is down... there have always been people living to 80, 90 and so on, but so many people died very young (infant mortality, disease), and that skews the results... another way that stats lie
I tell cats the people I see live the longest eat the least!!!!

Ya'll better listen to this man... that eat all the time BS is a major contributor to the poor health condition of those in the west... fast metabolism is good? think about that for a second... wouldnt you want your body to be able to do more with less food? The Okinawan people, who live the longest, have a saying that you should only eat until you are 80% full, they eat and they average about 1500 calories/day I believe. American doctors would call that starving yourself . Remember, western "experts" were telling us just a few yrs ago "fat is bad! dont eat any fat!", now those same mofos wanna kick the shit out of you if you dont eat enough fat. Doctors dont know very much about food/nutrtion... they get something like 3hrs of schooling on it in Medical school, most of it probably bullshit.

Do some research on calorie restriction, intermittent fasting, and alternate day fasting and how they relate to good health and long life. the more you eat, the more oxidation occurs in the body leading to free radicals, which then require you to consume anti-oxidants. Free radicals= cancer and cellular/DNA damage. if you eat less (of the right foods, which cant be stressed enough)and fast, you put your cells under stress, much like exercise, which results your body being resistant to disease and aging. ill bet gene looks younger than he is.

I had a thread about eating one meal a day http://www.bgol.us/board/showthread.php?t=216504 and gene has some good thoughts in there too. I've been eating one meal a day since about Feb, and Ive never felt better in my life... I was already in pretty good shape, but I leaned out without a loss in strength, my mind is clear, no skin blemishes at all, blood pressure is lower, I need less sleep and have more energy. And friends who havent seen me recently all comment on how I look younger than I used to.

I fast a few times a month... 2 days here, 3 days there and I recommend it. Another benefit to eating less: you save money and the money you do spend on food, you can buy the best foods for you. I eat almost 100% organic these days... fuck that canned and boxed shit. Trader Joe's and Whole foods all day:yes:. Fasting may be difficult at first, but if you can make it to day 3 or so, its smooth sailing and you will not feel hungry. Are you going to continue to listen to western doctors/experts who dont live any longer than you do? Or will you investigate/research/be open to "alternative" teaching and wisdom? Try it... if you dont feel better, you can always go back to your McDeath and Crapa-Cola

Thanks Bro for posting that link.... I checked it out and will be making adjustments to my diet.........
