when yall say the military are watching them....lemme interject for a minute. if this is what they're showing us, it means the military already had this 5 years ago. that is how these things work. don't be surprised if they already got a fully weaponized bot in some underground facility somewhere battle ready....they're just looking for the best time to deploy it

Like someone said they are probably even more advanced behind the scenes and that ATLAS shit is more advanced than the terminator. I got one even better check out that flick with Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe called Virtuosity, that shit was even more advanced in its concepts and that was back in the mid 90's.

Could be a balance thing given the weight of batteries and extra hardware. Long limbs at this point would only benefit a tethered version not loaded down with attached heavy loads of equipment
Lowering the center gravity certainly increases the stability, but I do not see what
it has too do with whether power source is portable or tethered
