Apple is on it's death bed

It's too many phones. They don't look much different. And they last years, so why cop one every time a new one comes out. Had mine two years now.

Apple iPhone Sales Fall Yet Again In Q2 2017

_89458831_gettyimages-518299348.jpg

On Tuesday, Apple (AAPL, Tech30) reported that it sold 50.8 million iPhones in the most recent quarter, down from 51.2 million units sold in the same quarter a year earlier.

A year ago, Apple reported its first ever decline in iPhone sales. The iPhone slump continued in the following two quarters, which led to Apple's first annual sales decline since 2001.

Apple managed to break its losing streak in the December quarter thanks to strong demand for the iPhone 7 Plus. But that reversal proved to be short lived.

Apple's overall sales for the March quarter rose to $52.9 billion from $50.6 billion a year earlier. But the slight dip in iPhone demand is nonetheless a red flag.

"We're seeing what we believe to be a pause in purchases on iPhone, which we believe are due to the earlier and much more frequent reports about future iPhones," Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, said on a conference call with analysts Tuesday.

The surprise sales decline pushed down Apple's stock more than 2% in after hours trading.

Ahead of the earnings, some analysts suggested users would hold off on purchasing new iPhones ahead of a much-hyped refresh expected later this year.

"It appears Apple users are holding off upgrading but not necessarily leaving the ecosystem," Steven Milunovich, an analyst with UBS, wrote in an investor note this week. "Investors need faith that users are waiting rather than switching."

Wall Street has been focused on pent up demand for the next iPhone, which will mark the smartphone's tenth anniversary.

For three years, the iPhone's exterior design has remained mostly unchanged, cutting into the demand for upgrades. However, the next iPhone model is rumored to have everything from wireless charging to a curved screen and a glass design.

iPhone sales aren't the only trouble spot for the company. Apple sold just shy of 9 million iPads in the quarter, down 13% from the previous year.

With two of its more mature hardware product categories in decline, Cook called attention to Apple's smartwatches, Beats products and the recently launched AirPods headphones.

Cook said if these products were lumped together into a standalone business, it would already be "well into the Fortune 500" in annual sales. The smallest company in the Fortune 500 does more than $5 billion in sales.

Apple's stock has soared to new highs in recent months on optimism for the next iPhone. The company's market cap was closing in on the $800 billion mark for the first time before the earnings report Tuesday.

Apple iPhone sales fall again. Tim Cook blames rumor mill

I don't get this stock. Sales are down, yet the stock keeps rising.

Fools were too stubborn or mis-informed to realize that Apple wasn't solely banking on their iPhone sales going forward (at least not as much as in the past).

As I predicted over a YEAR ago.

But then again, sales of the next phone still gonna shut shit down this fall.

AAPL market cap reaches record $800 billion as analyst raises target to $1 trillion

Jordan Kahn - May. 8th 2017 11:42 am PT

apple-parkway-campus-2.jpg

Apple’s market cap has reached a new record high of over $800 billion, with shares of AAPL hitting a high of 153.70 during trading today.

The record market cap for AAPL comes one week after the company reported its fiscal Q2 earnings . Alongside the record today analysts have raised price targets for the stock, notably Drexel Hamilton analyst Brian White (via CNBC) predicting $202 a share, which would make Apple the first company to pass a $1 trillion market cap. White even called the estimate “pretty conservative” as most analyst outlooks remain quite positive as we head towards the introduction of an expected major iPhone upgrade cycle this fall.

In an interview last week following the company’s earnings report, CEO Tim Cook called commentary on the company’s future and stock price “absurd,” noting that the company doesn’t “really look at the stock, because we’re focused on the long-term.”

screen-shot-2017-05-08-at-2-35-27-pm.png

While Apple missed some estimates for iPhone sales in the last quarter, and was slightly down year-over-year, it still managed to sell over 50 million units. It also posted notable growth for its Services and Other products categories. In an interview on CNBC’s Squawk Box today investor Warren Buffet noted “that’s a lot of product to sell with a new model coming out when you think about 50 million.”

Apple also confirmed that sales of its wearables, including AirPods, Apple Watch, and Beats products, have now reached the size of a Fortune 500 company with its “Other products” category up 31% year-over-year.

Maybe it's just me but I get the feeling that Apple is capitalizing off these iPhone 8 delay rumors (and Touch ID on the back) through their share buyback. The iPhone 8 is gonna be a monster in terms of sales.

Do you think that the sales of the iPhone has been affected by these phone service providers getting rid of the free phone upgrades?

With a market cap now of over $800 billion, I wonder if @kayanation will delete this thread when Apple becomes the first TRILLION DOLLAR company.:roflmao: :giggle::money::money:

Apple's Price Target Hiked, Wells Fargo's Cut, GE Downgraded

Analyst actions on Friday included price target changes for Apple (AAPL), Wells Fargo(WFC) and Macy's (M), and a downgrade for General Electric (GE).

Apple

Analyst Wamsi Mohan says Apple's total addressable market has significantly expanded because of its
health care applications, including health monitoring, and a premium automotive market of $700 billion. With its massive amount of cash on hand, Apple "can easily enter most markets through M&A," Mohan wrote, while bumping up Apple's 2019 EPS estimate to $12.54 from $12.06.

Rumor: Tim Cook personally testing new glucose blood sugar monitor for Apple Watch
By Neil Hughes
Thursday, May 18, 2017, 01:06 pm PT (04:06 pm ET)

Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook is said to have been spotted on his company's corporate headquarters wearing a new, unannounced Apple Watch accessory that could be used to measure a user's blood sugar levels in an non-intrusive fashion.

21376-24346-tim_cook_healthcare-l.jpg

Citing an unnamed source, CNBC reported on Thursday that Cook himself was wearing the prototype device. It's unknown whether it is an Apple-made piece of equipment, or something created in collaboration with a medical device maker.

The report also said that Cook even publicly discussed the device during an appearance at the University of Glasgow back in February. He said the device helped him understand how his body reacted to the foods he eats, and allowed him to keep his blood sugar more constant.

"I've been wearing a continuous glucose monitor for a few weeks," Cook said without mentioning connectivity to the Apple Watch. "I just took it off before coming on this trip."

The rumor is the latest in a line of reports claiming that the next-generation Apple Watch, expected to arrive this fall, could include support for glucose monitoring in some fashion. Earlier this week, another report said that Apple is also planning to include support for swappable smart bands that could add new functionality to the Apple Watch if a user desires.

21376-24347-19997-21199-19796-20840-Screen-Shot-2017-01-18-at-142707-l-l-2-l.jpg

Apple's embrace of glucose technology is expected to be non-invasive, measuring through the skin with advanced sensors. By potentially selling it as a separate band, Apple could potentially receive Food and Drug Administration approval for the accessory without the need to have the same certification for the Apple Watch hardware itself.

Apple has been keen to market the Apple Watch Series 2 as a fitness device, since it's now fully waterproof and supports GPS for distance-based activities like running. However its current health tracking only operate off of motion and heart rate.

Cook himself said in an interview earlier this month that the Apple Watch helped him shed 30 pounds by encouraging him to be active.

A so-called "Series 3" Apple Watch could arrive this September, alongside an anticipated revamp of the iPhone lineup, headlined by a completely redesigned "iPhone 8" model with a premium price tag. Last year, the Apple Watch Series 2 and Series 1 models debuted alongside the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

THIS WILL BE A MONUMENTAL GAME CHANGER. :money:

Apple CEO Tim Cook test-drove a device that tracks his blood sugar, hinting at Apple's interest in the space

  • Tim Cook has been test-driving a glucose monitor to understand how his blood sugar responds to factors like food and exercise
  • CNBC reported last month that Apple has a team dedicated to the "holy grail" in diabetes: Non-invasive and continuous glucose monitoring
  • Cook iterated in a discussion with university students in February that Apple is "really excited" about its potential in health care

Apple CEO Tim Cook displays his personal Apple Watch to customers at an Apple Store on April 10, 2015 in Palo Alto, California.

Tim Cook has been spotted at the Apple campus test-driving a device that tracks blood sugar, which was connected to his Apple Watch.

A source said that Cook was wearing a prototype glucose-tracker on the Apple Watch, which points to future applications that would make the device a "must have" for millions of people with diabetes -- or at risk for the disease.

As CNBC reported last month, Apple has a team in Palo Alto working on the "holy grail" for diabetes: Non-invasive and continuous glucose monitoring. The current glucose trackers on the market rely on tiny sensors penetrating the skin. Sources said the company is already conducting feasibility trials in the Bay Area.

Tim Cook also talked about the device to a roomful of students in February at the University of Glasgow, where he received an honorary degree. He didn't say if it was a medical device from a company like Medtronic or Dexcom, or an Apple prototype.

"I've been wearing a continuous glucose monitor for a few weeks," he said. "I just took it off before coming on this trip."

Cook explained that he was able to understand how his blood sugar responded to foods he was eating. He made modifications to keep his blood sugar more constant.

In Silicon Valley, a huge health trend is low-carb, high fat diets.Increasingly, venture capitalists and executives are finding that if they cut down their sugar consumption, they see dramatic results including increased productivity and weight loss.

Cook has a lot of interest in personal health. For instance, he's also an active gym-goer, and recently told CNBC's Jim Cramer that he has lost 30 pounds.

At the University of Glasgow, he reiterated Apple's commitment to the health space and spoke about the struggles faced by people with diabetes.

"It's mentally anguishing to stick yourself many times a day to check your blood sugar," he said. "There is lots of hope out there that if someone has constant knowledge of what they're eating, they can instantly know what causes the response... and that they can adjust well before they become diabetic."

Cook also described the impediments in the U.S. to making high-quality and intuitive health products, namely the priority for medical device makers to get reimbursement from insurance companies. "This is an area where I'm very excited about Apple's contribution," he said. "Very excited."

Apple Wearables Sales Outpacing iPhone out of the Gate

Apple's wearables platform is gaining momentum.|

According to Apple's most recent earnings and management commentary, the company sold more than five million wearable devices last quarter. When combined, Apple Watch, AirPods, and W1 chip-enabled Beats headphones are now outselling Mac in terms of unit sales. More impressively, Apple wearables are tracking ahead of iPhone in terms of unit sales out of the gate. As competitors continue to approach wearables with caution, Apple is doubling down.

Apple's Wearables Platform

Apple's wearables platform consists of three product categories:

  • Apple Watch. Launched in April 2015, Apple Watch is Apple's first wearables device. After reconfiguring the Apple Watch line this past September, Apple now sells five Watch models ranging from a $269 Apple Watch Series 1 to a $1,499 Apple Watch Hermès. To date, Apple has sold 25M Apple Watches (my estimate).
  • AirPods. AirPods are much more than just a pair of wireless headphones. The inclusion of Apple's new W1 chip, along with a series of sensors and voice accelerometers, position AirPods as Apple's second major wearables product. Despite launching with very limited supply in December 2016, Apple has managed to ship at least three million AirPods (my estimate) in a little more than three months on the market. This amounts to $475 million of revenue in just the first 14 weeks on the market.
  • Beats headphones. The inclusion of Apple's new W1 chip means three Beats headphone models (BeatsX, Solo3, and Powerbeats3) should be classified as Apple wearables. The expectation is that these headphones will gain additional features in subsequent versions.

Answer that question though.

Stop ducking.

give me the margins.

If you ever in charge of P&L you would understand

But their are some things over your head so you can't se the future too well and really understand what is happening with a company.

Samsung Note 7 fires gave Apple a reprieve

It doesn't invalidate their lack of innovation

And certainly the business financial fundamentals will erode based on that.

Apple's Siri home speaker now in manufacturing, may not ship until later in 2017
By Roger Fingas
Wednesday, May 31, 2017, 01:08 pm PT (04:08 pm ET)

Apple's rumored Amazon Echo competitor, based on Siri, has already entered manufacturing —but may not ship until "later in the year," sometime after the company's WWDC 2017 keynote on June 5, according to a report.

21518-24678-0-23823-19880-20982-cooksiri-l-l-l.jpg

The product could still be announced during the keynote, sources told Bloomberg on Wednesday. Aside from Siri, other features of the speaker are expected to include use as a HomeKit hub, and higher-quality audio —specifically, virtual surround technology, and louder and crisper output.

The device may also include sensors that detect room acoustics and adjust levels automatically, akin to a more convenient version of Sonos's Trueplay system.

Whole story here. http://appleinsider.com/articles/17...anufacturing-may-not-ship-until-later-in-2017

My theory to what's going on here. :D

Apple's new "speaker system" will include (maybe not when it debuts but eventually) the wireless charging solution called "WattUp" from Energous .

http://energous.com

Taking it far & above above the speaker products offered by google & amazon, this "speaker" will not only feature Siri but but its killer feature will be "intelligent"

roaming wireless charging up to 15 feet
. With future Apple products having the embedded charging chips.

I also think it's possible that this "speaker" will be wifi capable & could possibly be a hub for a mesh wireless network. I say this

because it was reported earlier this year that Apple has repurposed all of its Airport/Time Capsule engineers to different projects & no will longer sell those products.;)

Also the RF technologies used in wifi mesh networks & WattUp are very similar.

So basically, starting with this "speaker", combined with complimentary satellite products (that would be offered later) to fit smaller room profiles, this new product could

potentially be the hub of a home network that provides home audio (ex. Sonos)...mesh wifi networking...roaming "intelligent" wireless charging for your mobile

devices
, and the simple AI speaker tech offered by google & amazon. This would be a game changer to have all of those technologies in one device. The Apple way of thinking.

Just my theory. :D

More links and videos.

Listen very closely to what the CEO is saying in the latter part of the video.

Found this video when looking for Energous vids. :eek2:

The new toys are here.....

Apple announces new iMac Pro with up to 18-core processor and 5K display for $4,999
Apple today announced a brand new tier of its all-in-one desktop called the iMac Pro. The new product, unveiled on stage at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose, is supposed to be a “the most powerful Mac ever,” according to the company. In other words, this computer is going to replace the painfully outdated and woefully mismanaged Mac Pro line, at least for the foreseeable future. The iMac Pro will start shipping this December starting at $4,999, Apple confirmed

Apple says the computer will ship with an 8-core Xeon processor, with configurations that scale up to an 18-core Xeon processor, 5K display, and an all-new AMD Radeon Vega graphics GPU. You’ll also be able to shell out for up to 16GB of VRAM, and up to 4TB for SSD storage. There’s a whole ton of other upgrades in there. Check out the full list Apple shared in its presentation below:

Apple imagines this desktop being used for everything from high-end editing and graphics work to gaming and VR, with specs that could even support artificial intelligence research

Apple announces new 10.5-inch iPad Pro

Apple announced a new 10.5-inch iPad Pro and a refresh 12.9-inch model today at its Worldwide Developers Conference. They ship next week with the 10.5-inch model starting at $649 for a model with 64GB of memory or $779 for a 64GB cellular version. It can come with up to 512GB of storage. The 12.9-inch version starts at $799 for 64GB of storage and Wi-Fi, or $929 for 64GB of storage with cellular connectivity. Both iPads are powered by the new A10X six-core CPU and include a 12-core GPU included. They support HDR video with a 120hz refresh rate. Apple says this is ideal for the Apple Pencil because it’s more responsive and drops the latency rate to 20 milliseconds. That refresh rate dynamically adjusts depending on what you’re viewing for smarter power conservation. The True Tone display is also 50 percent brighter than earlier models.

The new iPad Pros also feature a a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera along with a 7-megapixel front-facing camera. Both should last for 10 hours on a single charge. In addition to the iPad, Apple is launching new sleeves and accessories, like a leather sleeve for both that start at $129.

The news follows Apple’s release of another new iPad earlier this year, that it simply calls iPad. That device is 9.7-inches and replaced the iPad Air 2. The price of the iPad has also dropped, too, with a 32GB Wi-Fi model starting at $329, and 32GB Wi-Fi and Cellular model going for $459.

Apple Refreshes the Entire MacBook Line Up, and I'm Pissed

Alex Cranz
Today 2:11pm
Filed to:WWDC 2017
p1rm7jkhz6j7vcsbvgye.jpg

Apple’s big developer conference, WWDC, is usually not the place for hardware updates, but as Tim Cook said at the beginning of WWDC 2017, “This is the biggest WWDC ever.” To that end Apple announced upgrades to nearly every single product in its computer line up, and thoroughly fucked over every single person who bought a MacBook Pro back in November.

Things started off nicely enough. Apple announced an update to the iMac, with discrete AMD graphics cards coming to every 4K iMac that are powerful enough to let you enjoy the HTC Vive VR headset. There were also additional Thunderbolt 3 ports and a processor improvement: The newest iMacs will run Kaby Lake.

If you’ve heard Kaby Lake discussed in relation to Apple, it’s because Apple has skipped Kaby Lake in the past. Notoriously when Apple refreshed its laptop line last year, for the first time in two years, it skipped out on Kaby Lake.

Now it’s updated every single laptop and desktop to Kaby Lake. This is a huge improvement for iMacs and the MacBook, but it’s deeply deeply annoying for those of us who bought the newly redesigned MacBook Pro back in November. Particularly as these new Kaby Lake machines are cheaper as well.

The only bright side, for early adopters, is that Kaby Lake mobile processors aren’t always that much faster than Skylake processors—something Gizmodo learned when pitting the Skylake Macbook Pro against Kaby Lake machines from Razer and Dell.

While these kind of processor refreshes are very common with other computer makers, Apple has always been very slow to embrace processor updates. In fact, it’s long been part of the “Apple Tax” (alongside the higher price Apple computers demand). So, from an early adopter who hoped she had at least a year before you refreshed and made her device obsolete—goddammit!

Apple signalled a continued recovery in iPhone sales after last year’s declines, as it posted 7 per cent increase in revenues for its most recent quarter and forecast a better than expected performance in the three months to September. The latest quarter also saw the iPad return to growth for the first time in more than three years, up 15 per cent in unit terms, driven by March’s introduction of a new lower-priced model and an update to its Pro tablets in June.

Shares in Apple were up by more than 6 per cent after-hours, taking the stock to a new all-time high above $159. Apple’s overall revenues for the June quarter were $45.4bn, with iPhone sales up 2 per cent to 41m units, broadly in line with analysts’ expectations, while earnings per share beat forecasts at $1.68 each, as net income grew 12 per cent to $8.7bn. Looking ahead to its fiscal fourth quarter, Apple said revenues would be in a range of $49bn to $52bn, or a rise of between 5 and 11 per cent year-on-year, potentially putting it ahead of Wall Street’s consensus forecasts of around $49bn. The outlook could help to assuage concerns among investors that the much-anticipated next version of the iPhone could see its launch delayed beyond its traditional September debut.
