It hurts my heart to see chris cornell lumped with nickelback but his last album was a poppy mess so I get it. Dude.... I'm not gonna knock your taste but I'll say that it sounds you're going for a light melodic rock type of vibe. Let me offer some suggestions of bands that actually do this well.
A better representation of Chris Cornell's talent
Soooo many more choices but I'm too lazy to post them hope this helps.

It has been a minute, for a minute I had thought you said to yourself fuck the 10 dollar donation and got up out of here. I have just been up to school and work.
Geeznu do you prefer melodic rock?
Nah brethren I just got mad busy..... curiosity got me eventually though. Glad to hear you're keepin it trill with work+school. Find them Aliens son...... I want to believe.
My favorite rock song is a tie between Machine Gun by Jimmy Hendricks and Kashmir by Led Zepplin.
Another out the crackers thread.

Yo I have a live copy of Joy Division performing that shit live that completely blows away their own album version and the NIN version, gotta find it. Props for knowing the original though.
Speaking of Joy Division have either two of you seen Control, which is sorta a mini biopic of deceased Joy Division lead singer Ian Curtis
damn good flick

It's crazy how after Ian died them cats practically became the fathers of Techno/Electronic music. Mad talented band.
