I'm planning to get my CDL permit in a couple of weeks and then go on into signing up with a driving school to get my CDL. Right now, I'm thinking of getting a 2nd job during the day since I work currently at night, but I'd like to hear from those who are in the industry, the pros and cons of working on the road. I'm even thinking about maximizing my worth and finding the higher-paying jobs and working it for the next 5-10 years before retiring to a condo in South Florida. Tell me your stories.

Here's a little background:

I'm 46, the kids are off to college, tired of sitting down at office jobs... I've had a few... worked for a couple of insurance companies, an airline and currently a freight transportation company. The current's probably the best of them all because I work solo, make my own hours during the week, but the pay's not hitting the spot. Now, I want to try something totally different, and since I like to drive, I think I may like this, especially long hauls.

i believe there are two types of truck drivers over the road and the ones that are home every night
