Anthony Davis wants out......where will he go

In trying, somewhat desperately, to acquire Anthony Davis at the trade deadline, the Lakers offered the Pelicans pretty much every halfway valuable asset on their roster this side of LeBron James. The trade never happened, but the core of the package the Lakers offered -- Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, and Kyle Kuzma, plus draft picks, perhaps the No. 4 overall -- could still be in play should New Orleans reconsider its stance.

According to ESPN's Dave McMenamin, a lot of people inside of New Orleans' organization wouldn't have to reconsider anything. They were high on the Lakers' offer from the start. Speaking on The Sedano Show, here's what's McMenamin had to say:

I spoke to several people within the Pelicans' organization in the past several months that have a really high opinion of Brandon Ingram, and beyond just Brandon Ingram, have a really high opinion of the trade package that was on the table that was ultimately rejected.

Of course, when the Pelicans rejected this offer Dell Demps was still in charge. Now Demps is out, and it's newly hired executive vice president David Griffin and general manager Trajan Langdon who are calling the shots. To that extent, Griffin's comments -- before he had been hired by New Orleans and was still doing television work -- on Brandon Ingram are suddenly very interesting. Again on The Sedano Show, here's what Griffin the television analyst had to say about Ingram.

Literally this kid doesn't even have total control of his extremities yet. He's so long, he's got like that newborn deer lack of core strength. For Kyrie Irving to say that he though [Ingram] was defensively tough for him is a huge statement by Kyrie. And it says a lot about the fact that Brandon is making big strides in his core strength. Earlier this year, I saw him get blown by like he was nailed to the floor at times against point guards. He's very quickly adjusting. That's a big deal. He's 21 years old. It defies the imagination. How old was Victor Oladipo when he hit for Indiana? And [Ingram] is way more physically gifted than Oladipo.

Pretty high praise, wouldn't you say?

Now, some things have changed between then and now. Ingram had a blood clot scare that ended his 2018-19 season, and there is definitely an element of wait-and-see in terms of people around the league wanting to make sure this was a one-time thing. Also, the Lakers might not even offer this same package again. If Kyrie Irving leaves Boston, leverage could swing back in the Lakers' favor as offers start to dry up, and with Davis having the ability to just come to L.A. as a free agent in 2020, the Lakers might be less willing to throw a Godfather offer at the Pelicans.

Think about it: Had the Lakers gotten Davis in February, they would've had him for two playoff runs before his free-agent summer. Now if they trade for him, they only get him for one year ahead of when they could theoretically just get him as a free agent without giving anything up. Are you really going to offer your entire core of youth for one extra season with Davis on board? Maybe. But the Pelicans took a risk turning that offer down the first time, and there's no guarantee it's going to be there again. If for some reason it is, it sounds like New Orleans might bite this time around.

Rajon Rondo opens up on how Anthony Davis rumors rattled the Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers’ season began to fall apart when LeBron James suffered a groin injury on Christmas Day against the Warriors, and the organization’s pursuit of Pelicans star Anthony Davis at the trade deadline in February caused major internal strife, according to reports.

James had said publicly that it would be “amazing” if Davis were to join the Lakers, and Magic Johnson reportedly offered everything the Lakers had to try and secure a deal. ESPN reported that then-Pelicans GM Dell Demps was stringing the Lakers along and never intended to trade Davis to LA – and Demps was fired soon after the deadline. Months later, Johnson quit the Lakers, but the team may be in an even better position to potentially land Davis after receiving the fourth pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

In an interview with Bleacher Report, Lakers guard Rajon Rondo opened up on what was going on inside the Lakers’ locker room around the trade deadline, and it’s clear that the speculation over a potential trade had a major impact on a young Lakers team. According to Rondo, young Lakers players felt “rejected” by James, who many Lakers players grew up idolizing.

Via Bleacher Report:

“Every guy on our team, LeBron was their favorite player growing up,” Rondo says. “Everyone had the shoes, his jersey. You’re the biggest fan in the world. It’s like you’re playing with MJ, and then you get there, and it’s like your mom and dad, or the person that you looked up to and idolized, doesn’t want you. And then to have that sitting in your gut, not knowing.”

Rondo said that even veteran players were bothered by the rumors, and recalled a time that one teammate was “cussing” about the situation in the middle of a game against the Hawks.

“I can’t say a name, but I remember me and the guy were on the bench for the Atlanta game right before the [All-Star] break. The guy was cussing and talking bad about the situation during the game. I was like: ‘Snap out of it. That shit is over with. We’ll get through it. As vets, we have to move forward and not focus on what the young guys are focusing on.”

The Lakers lost that game, 117-113, and James seemed to send a message to his teammates with his post-game comments.

Via ESPN:

“Some guys have never played a playoff game before,” James said. “You can’t teach them that. It’s very important to understand how important every game is, no matter who you’re playing or where you are.”

The Bulls are willing to trade the 7th pick for Lonzo. Maybe the Bulls will get in on a three way trade. As a Bulls fan Lonzo does not excite me but he may thrive in Chicago who knows? DeAngelo had a good year in Brooklyn:dunno:.

I wonder who’s going to get the pick, if a deal like that would happen...

Lakers get the 7th and AD??

Would be something if the Lakers got him for the same shit Magic offered or less

Well the them GM off the pelicans was the problem, remember he got fired right after the deal didn’t happen or was the the reason???

Yeah, I just find it funny and would Magic still be around if the trade happen

Not sure, seems like dude was tired of the bullshit...

Plus Magic has too much money and influence to be working for somebody. Talking heads say Darrel Morey and Bob Meyers are grinders working 20 hours a day. Why would Magic Johnson want or need to do that for a business that isnt his.

Common sense and sound business practices need to take over at some point.. There is absolutely no way you get a better deal than what was reported as the Lakers last offer. And now its become a clown show with organizational incompetence on full display. Now we see why that franchise has been so terrible for so long. You cant wait for the sake of waiting and hoping a better deal comes in the summer. The guy aint changing demands and he dam sure aint changing agents.
If Rich Paul wasnt his agent, If they hadnt announced destinations, If his pops hadnt publicly shit on Boston, AND If they had guarantees Kyrie was staying... They should wait.

Since NONE of that is the case.. they need to rape Magic while they can.
You strike a deal at the height of the leverage. Thats now. No team will have similarly valued assets this summer and LA will have more options come summer. Also need to consider AD injury history while not forgetting what happened to Boogie last season. If the kid should sustain another injury between now and he summer they are further fucked. There are too many unknowns to risk it. This is why bad teams are bad.

Demps got Pop in his ear poorly advising him. Meanwhile Pop let his ego screw him into only getting a 30 year old guard who can't shoot for a top 3 player in his prime.

NO need to take Magic to the cleaners while they can.

So if this alleged deal holds until after moratorium, Lakers get to keep Kuzma, Lebron and get AD, then will have at least 27 mil to flesh out the rest of the roster. 4 extra mil if AD waives his bonus.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

That was all owner man.
Owner digged in and tried to get even more for him instructing demps to not pull the trigger.
then ordered demps to sit davis
then when the nba stepped in and said you can't sit him and he had to play him and got hurt then they fired him
dude hands were handcuffed the entire process.

the ownership fucked up.

I understand that it's not to absolve him as if he had no involvement I'm talking about the deal though and especially with the deal being leaked
If the ownership says take the deal then he literally has no choice but to take the deal feel me?
They ain't want that...and they fucked up.

They did. They offered all 5 kids and 2 first round pics. Now they got 3 and 3. So the Lakers kept Kuzma, traded Zo for cap space and are giving up 1 top four pic and 2 25+ pics

Where are you getting that from, because that contradicts what local reporters said that happened.

Gayle Benson was largely hands off until the trade demand became public and that literally forced her to separate the Saints and Pelicans start taking a more hands on approach and hiring basketball specific execs.

AD has a year left on his current deal

Fam, the deal was out there.
There's being hands off and not having any business owning a team.
If your best player is up for trade discussion and everyone knows the details of the trades but you demps shouldn't have been fired she should have
how bout that.

You're putting Demp's firing on the AD trade request

Demps got fired because he was a terrible GM. 7 years of AD only two playoff appearances now the nigga wants out (rightfully so) ... You don't keep your job with a resume like that... Hell that's game over in 2k.
