During Apple's quarterly conference call on Tuesday, CEO Tim Cook said 30 percent of iPhone buyers switched from Android during the fourth quarter, the highest ratio of "switchers" Apple has recorded in a single three-month period.

Cook specified that the 30 percent statistic applies to customers who upgraded from an Android device, not first-time buyers. He went on to say the switch rate was the largest recorded since Apple began tracking such statistics around three years ago.

Reasons for the minor exodus were not explored, but Apple has been aggressively targeting Android users as of late. For example, a trade in program launched in March targeted non-iOS devices, while Apple in June announced a dedicated "Move to iOS" app for migrating data from an Android device to iOS. The migration tool went live in the Android App Store last month, just in time for the iPhone 6s.

Looking forward, Cook believes an increasing number of Android users are likely to switch once eligible for a carrier upgrade which, when combined with new buyers, should drive strong first quarter 2016 sales.

"We have a very open field in front of us," Cook said of next quarter.

For the fourth quarter, Apple sold a record 48 million iPhones, a 22 percent year over year boost helped along by a 120 percent increase in Chinese sales.

Prob Apple gave the okay do payment plans on the iPhones and carriers are giving them away for free for two-year contracts. A lot of people who don't know the difference would get an iPhone.

Re: Android switchers accounted for 30% of iPhone buyers in Q4, highest ratio recorde

Android phones can be had for next to nothing. People get more money and might test out Apple.

Re: Android switchers accounted for 30% of iPhone buyers in Q4, highest ratio recorde

48 million iPhones sold in one quarter is impressive but the 30% thing is a bit deceptive.

There will always be large amounts of Android users switching because the amount of Android devices ranging from low to high end.

Android phones have been given away free for years now. They had a choice and dumped the platform.

You sure about that? (I already know you're wrong for the most part). :D Their profits have fallen for seven straight quarters.:smh:

TSMC & Samsung fab the chips but that will be ending as early as next year (replaced by Intel). Apple doesn't need them.

Re: Android switchers accounted for 30% of iPhone buyers in Q4, highest ratio recorde

It makes sense I mean there are so many more android users than iphone just samsang alone shipped more phones than the next two companies combined.

Apple may still own the smartphone throne in the U.S., but even with 48 million iPhones sold last quarter, Samsung continues to dominate the worldwide market. In Q3 2015, the South Korean company shipped more smartphones than any other company. In fact, Samsung out-shipped the next two smartphone makers, Apple and Huawei, combined.

Smartphone vendors shipped a total of 355.2 million smartphones worldwide last quarter. Not only is this figure up 6.8 percent from the 332.6 million units in Q3 2015, it’s the second highest quarterly total on record. The latest quarterly figures come from IDC, which summarized its findings in the following chart:
idc_smartphones_q3_2015.png

As you can see above, Samsung’s market share actually decreased by 0.1 percentage points (from 23.9 percent to 23.8 percent), despite shipping more smartphones (84.5 million). That’s more than a fifth of the market, though just a few years ago Samsung controlled one third.

During the quarter, Samsung remained focused on premium handsets with the launch of the Galaxy S6 edge+ and the Galaxy Note 5. Also, sub-$200 devices drove a majority of shipments in many key emerging markets.

Apple managed to gain 1.7 points (to 13.5 percent), largely thanks to selling 13 million iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus units in the first weekend. The larger-screens of the iPhone 6s iPhone 6s Plus helped, as did price cuts for older iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus models, according to IDC.

Huawei grabbed another 2.5 points (to 7.5 percent), Lenovo gained 0.2 points (to 5.3 percent), and Xiaomi stayed flat at 5.2 percent. While the Android and iOS duopoly doesn’t look like it’s going away anytime soon, the Samsung-Apple duopoly is slowly eroding.

The Chinese trio accounted for 18 percent of the pie. Once again, that’s more than Apple, and very close to Samsung. Last year, their combined share was still well behind Apple. Everyone will be looking to Q4 2015 to see whether Samsung and Apple can maintain their positions.

“The third quarter placed a substantial emphasis on flagship devices as vendors tried to outclass each other in both features and design,” IDC research manager Anthony Scarsella said in a statement. “New flagship models translated to fiercer competition at the high-end for most players as many will try to challenge both Samsung and Apple for a place among the elite. However, despite the glitz and glamour at the high-end, we still expect the bulk of volume and growth to once again sprout from low to mid-range handsets, particularly in emerging markets.”

Seem you don't know how the game works. There's a reason why Samsung NEVER reports units sold while Apple is the opposite. The following excerpt is a perfect example of the fuckery corporations like MS, Samsung/Google use to cook the books to cover up their product flops. :smh:

And indeed, subsequent reporting by Korean publication Yonhap, confirmed by the Verge, clarifies that Samsung meant that it had shipped 800,000 Galaxy Gear smartwatches to retailers. It’s unclear how many have sold in the two months since the watch became available to consumers, and that could be a problem for Samsung on the scale of the Surface flop, which cost Microsoft $900 million.

Just because a company manufactures and ships (to retailers) a certain number of a device doesn’t mean they’re selling. And an earlier rumor published by BusinessKorea says that Samsung has actually sold only 50,000 Gear smartwatches. The difference between 800,000 and 50,000 is 750,000 smartwatches, and at $300 apiece they represent a potential $225 million in unsold goods.

Understand the scam now?

So that explains why i-phones are always on back order. They don't ship the phone until it's actually sold. I went to get a 6s last week and they said the rose gold was on back order for 4 weeks....
BTW... I picked up the 6s Saturday and rose gold my ass...this phone is pink.

You're posting rumors man. And what would be the benefit to a company shipping products every quarter and not selling even half that amount. These are businesses things have to be accounted for goals forecasts you can't just throw out random numbers to ship for free.

FLoss Iphone is one of the most profitable product in history based on profit margins. They make a pretty penny. All of this other stuff is unimportant man.
