Americans, since you do not know good music, allow me to demonstrate it!

I do not want any fool who has not listened to the entire song to step and up to me and say shit... I know you are pissed off, but I have all the evidence on my side and you have none.

At the end, I want you to go and tell all the people you know that "Yes, dawg, the Africans are better at music than we are"

In the montage of photos that are in this clip, there is one showing the dancing girls of Franco on a stage, at a concert in Lusaka in September 1987... I was a little boy, but I travelled near damn 1 000 miles to the country of Zambia to be at that concert. And I was the first person at Independence Stadium at 7 am... I waited from 9AM when they opened the gates to 4pm when the concert begun; I was there till it closed 4 or 5 hours later. Unlike your American bans TP OK had no time for the intermezzo bullshit I see at American concerts all the time. Once the song Massu by the grandmaster was commenced by Mbambo Baniel and Nana Okumu Akuma, it was fire works till the last sound issued from the tremendous sound system of TP OK Jazz..

At the end, I went back stage and hobknobbed with the great stars of TP OK Jazz, such as Josky, Madilu System, etc etc etc ,...That was a day I will never forget... The greatest band the history of all men everywhere..That was the last time I saw the grandmaster. He went to Lubumbashi for a concert, then went back to Kin... Less than 2-years later, the greatest bandleader in the history of music was dead...

It doesn't do it for free he has to pay for it, and should he not be proud of the country that gave him his genetic make up and language....?
I'm just saying....

I wont argue with you about that. America has been good to me, and the Black Americans in Texas are the best people in the whole world, who harbour absolutely no predjudice against Africans...(unlike those in another town whose name I will not mention)...

But so what, when I meet my own brothers, our fights over anything, are more intense... One of my brothers is the greatest fan of soul music and has more soul records than any person I know. I have tried to open his eyes but he wont see. I told him that he was colonised by American music, and he retorted that that I am colonised by African musi--- Ah, but am I not an African. He said, "you are a black man first"...

Oh well so what, there is an African proverb that says "Trees that grow close together do not fail to rub against each other". Black Americans, and even your scratched and ashy ass Zero, are all my brothers.. We will talk trash... But we are on the same side...

I take pride in Michael Jackson; I feel a warmth in my heart when I hear the Chilites, Louis Armstrong etc etc... At the end of the day, if that day ever ends, we fight over who is the best, just as the Black American supporters of Barry Sanders fight the Black American supporters of Emmitt Smith. After that we go to the pussy bar. After the pussy bar, we come back home and resume the fight again...

I criticise Barack Obama every day... but do you know that the only time I have ever come close to crying was the days I saw him walk out on to Lincoln Park in Chicago to give his victory address to 1 million people???? He is a black man, I give a hard time... but I would die for the man... Even when I disagree with his policies, such as over Mugabe, he is still my man... If I like something George Bush has done, I like that thing.... but that is it.

Don't worry about it Charlie I understand what Zero is trying to say...

Nzinga, have you heard of one Oliver Mtukudzi ? Africa's best guitarist

Oliver Mutukudzi... Let me see, Zimbabweans in their confused musical journey, got their independence playing South African music. Some like Stella Chiweshe had had the good fortune to live in Zambia... In the 1980s, the likes of Amayenge went to Zimbabwe, and in places like Hwange, Zimbabweans overran the fences of stadiums to get close to the Zambian band. Within a short time, Zimbabweans changed their tune and began to play music that sounded like the many Zambian musicians who influenced them...But the Zimbabwean recording industry had better technology, and more connections in England, and was thus able to parlay what it never created...

What the Zimbabweans did not know, is that the many Zambian bands, from whom they learned their music, are full of Zairians from Katanga. In fact, in Zambia, it is difficulty to tell who is a Zambian and who is a Zairian...

Add on to this, the Zairian band Lubumbashi Star, that decamped from Lusaka to Harare, where they lifted musical blindness off the eyes of Zimbabweans and taught them dance....

How can Oliver Mutukudzi be the best guitarist in Africa, what the hell are you smoking? Chamba, mbanje, from Malawi? Please go to Lubumbashi and see real musicians. You don't eve need to go to Kinshasa or Brazza, the greatest cauldron of guitarists and musicians in the world...

Oliver Mutukudzi is not among the best 2000 guitarists in Africa. In case you think this is hyperbole, remember that in 1979, the UN stated that in Kinshasa alone, there were at least 1000 orchestras playing music there...

Economic opportunity more than freedom. I have more freedom in Africa where the government does not have the same cut and dry absolute power it has here. I want 2 wives, I can marry them. I can raise my children without the intrusion o the state...

This is not about politics... it is about art... If tomorrow you come and state that Kobe Bryant is the best basketball player in the world, why should I get upset about such an obvious fact?

I listened to the first clip and it was ok. Would have been a lot better if it was instrumental. My boy brought me a cd with some african jazz on it and its tight other than the fucking vocals. That shit is annoying as hell.

I won't comment on your statements comparing african music to american music cause I think that was just meant to get niggas mad.

On side 2 of this album which I remember very well from December 1987, there were 2 songs, one of them was this 13-minute masterpiece! Tell me you know of better music, because I do not!!!!

OK???? That is one of the greatest songs of the 20th century by the greatest band in the history of man. A veritable 13-minute masterpiece by one of the greatest composers in TP OK..

Why would they get mad because I stated an absolute and incontestable truth that TP OK Jazz is the greatest band in history? What makes them think they can make unwarranted allusions to insiginficant American bands as being the best? I am adducing the evidence to disabuse them of such notions...

I believe that's what folks try to tell you...when you attempt to force feed them your tastes.

I am too tired to argue with you... and I need to go to Walmart to have my vehicle battery replaced before the warranty runs out.

Nzinga when is the last time you set foot on african soil? I am asking because I have noticed a lot of africans that don't live in africa seem to be locked in a time capsule from the time they left.

You have posted a hundred of these shits mane

Thats African music and African people love it.

You should be satisfied with that.

That shit is primitive against even sorry music here.

The structure is very basic always in the same key...

those niggas have stunted growth syndrome over there too.

What is the new time capsule....? I have the hottest that was released last week, that everyone is talking about, called Cocktail Molotov by Biya Chante who sung for Pepe Kalle... My friends in Brussels and the Netherlands send me these things within hours of their release.

The difference is that the music of TP OK Jazz is historic, it is classic, it is monumental. Nothing as good was produced before, then or since... This is the gold standard, the cadillac of music...

I know enough about you to know that in your own mind, Africans have moved on to prefer the psuedo Rap and RnB of bullshit musicians like JK... I know your views in music, and there is nothing you can tell me...

In my signature, I have Werrason who is the hottest thing going right now. His Techno Malewa, released late last year, is still the hottest album. We are awaiting Techno Malewa 2, just as we are waiting for JB Mpiana's Soyons Serrieux... This is the latest in music, and there is really nothing you can tell me.

However, no one in Zaire would compare this stuff to TP OK Jazz..

A 25 man band, with the best guitarists

Mpudi Decca or Flavien Makabi on Bass
Papa Simaro, Makosso or Mangaya on rythm
On solo/ mi-solo, you the grand master, Papa Noel, Dialungana, Mantuika, Mandjeku

You have Kakoma Nado on drums

You have a horn section of 10 people, and yet others on African drums...

You have 10 excellent singers including Djo Mpoy, Malage, Kiambukuta, Ya Ntessa, Madilu etc etc

What three American bands put together had the knowledge, talent, quality and discipline of tp ok? Please do not insult us by comparing us to your no-talent, three man measly ensembles... What do you know about poly-rythms, what do you know about layered call and answer of voices and instruments, what do you know percussion. You know nothing.

American music is what is simple. One simple bass melody, with a synthesiser as the relish, and one wailing voice...That is like giving someone water laced with sugar and thinking you ar giving him champagne.. To compound the situation, you do not even have bands. You have singers like boyz to men who hire same studio musicians everybody hires when you want to play music..

I was watching that Michael Jackson special and was stunned that the man did not even have a dedicated band. All the characters were hired mercenaries, even if they had played for him for a long time.

The lack of bands is why there is no creativity in American music. To be creative, you must have a band that sits and practises...

I repeat, there is no band in the history of music, be it Duke Ellingtons, be it an orchestra in Berlin, that was or will be the equal of TP OK Jazz.

The discussion is closed.
