One question that I have been asked a lot as of late is "why haven't you written anything about Roger Clemens or Barry Bonds yet?" As always I am flattered when people request that I write about any specific topic. Truth is that I have both of these topics listed in my "article ideas" file on my computer. I guess I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
That, and I really don't want to devote my time to either one of these jerks.
My opinion on Clemens was summed up beautifully by Scoop Jackson on ESPN.com. Many people, especially those who know me well, believe that my dislike for Clemens is due to my love for the Mets. Sure, I'll admit that I don't like anybody while they're playing for that team in the Bronx. I cannot for the life of me understand how anybody who calls themselves a fan of a team with such prestige as the Yankees can be jumping for joy at how Roger Clemens has treated the game of baseball.
Yeah, Roger, it's a big story that you're coming back to join the Yankees. But to interrupt the seven-inning stretch to announce it over to the home crowd was possibly the tackiest move I have ever seen in sports. You want to pitch for the Yanks, fine. Make a press conference like any normal athlete. For all your accolades, Roger, you are not now nor will you ever be larger than the game of baseball.
Oh, and I want to clear up another thing about Clemens. Anybody who believes that he came back to "win another ring" with the Yankees is an idiot, pure and simple. If the Red Sox had offered him .1 million dollars more than New York did Clemens would be in Boston. Roger Clemens is a self-serving jerk and is the epitome of everything wrong with professional sports. He is in it for himself and athletes like him make me sick. It's sad when a diehard baseball fanatic can't respect one of the all-time greats. When he gets inducted into Cooperstown I want him to wear a hat with a giant "ME" on it.
It's the only team he's ever cared about.
Then, there's Barry Bonds. By now there's nothing new that can be said about the steroid scandal and Barry Lamar. You know he cheated. I know he cheated.
