depending on the subject matter it could be consider kid or adult... smurfs ain't no rated r type material, but a graphic novel like watchmen is... most cartoons that was played in the morining was attended for kids.. people seem to forget cartoon watchers and comic book readers can actually be two types of people/genre.. juss because u watched cartoons dosen't mean u read comics and visa versa.. lot of cartoons were watered down compared to comic books so to most people majority of cartoons were considered childish... hell that's why transformers the movie was so big cause optimus prime died lot of lil kids weren't prepared for that and actually started crying cause that moment was to real to them and above their expectation of what a kid cartoon suppose to be..so cartoons to some for the most part are kiddy and depending on the comic book they think that to

I don't fault them much. It requires a supreme storyteller and more specifically, someone very keen on social themes and how to present them wrapped in Comicbooks. No easy task!

In someways, CBM, imo, has made it harder to tell those stories. Most people go in expecting to see specitical from opening credits to closing credits. So how do you tell a story in the environment that truly challenges theme telling and keeps the audience deeply engaged and entertained?

Notice what most people leave CBM talking about. Oh that Airport scene was fantastic! When Lex blew up the building I couldn't believe Superman just stood there crying! Etc

I love the CBM but I have to admit too many are superficially created for my likely. There is so much more depth to them that's not being emphasized.

You literally have to look for them beyond the fantastical. So it no wonder the OP doesn't see the appeal in them

It is over saturated! Hollywood is just lazy now, all they do are sequels or reboots. It's no more originality! What number Alien and Predator movies are they on? And the amount of Friday the 13th movies were insane. With all this great technology to make good films they just come up with the same ideas.

I absolutely love the stuff! Regret I didn't have an opportunity as a kid to read them all. But this has been a golden age for comic book fans. The only thing I don't like is how divisive and toxic this stuff has gotten in the cinematic universe.

I would say I understand your complaint. However, your complaints, imo, points to understanding this genre to a superficial depth . Likely, or rather thoroughly, you've never looked or been exposed to beyond the surface. Given access to contemplated the themes that inherently resonates in this genre. Truly and honestly that's a shame because that's where the magic lies!

Next time you watch Superman...Try to look beyond the CAC with powers and consider a stranger in a foreign land.

Next time you watch Batman...Try to look beyond the Rich CAC and consider how a deeply tragedic situation can affect and give course to your life.

These aren't "Comic Book Movies" these are "Human Stories" told in a different more palpable medium for "deep" consumption.

Couldn't name which superheroes belonged to which, didn't know there was a rivalry, didn't know if one was suppose to better than the other.

I read Sunday comics and collected and followed only one comic book series: The Phantom.

Everything else was just "oooohhh, that's cool."

I really think a lot of that "I grew up " talk is conditioning. People are made to feel that comics, toys, etc are kids stuff - but peoole forget its adults writing these comics and designing these toys. As a cartoonist/ illustrator myself I've ran into so many people (especially black folks) that think there is some sort of time limit on these genres and that "growing up" means putting these down

I think for us, being oppressed and not getting to live in a fantasy realm due to that, many didn't see the point in enjoying comics because generations always had to prepare they kids for real shit, in turn, cutting into liesure activities whites have always enjoyed.
