Alright ya'll can we talk seriously and honestly about the Cosby Show???

* You knew they were running out of gas when there would be whole episodes that featured anyone BUT a Huxtable. Peter had an episode....Bud had a episode..hell even some kid at the local rec center they volunteered at had a episode.

Wasnt that trying to be a pilot for a proposed spin-off show? Lots of sitcoms back in the day did this

Nowadays NBC doesn't even acknowledge the show..in their most recent network anniversary special i think there was only like a one-sentence mention and that was it

That episode was the pilot for a failed Tony Orlando vehicle.

You'll remember he was the coordinator of the rec center, in that episode.

Imperfect as it was, I still love the show wholeheartedly. It takes me back to a special time and place in my life.

I still might take the first 4 or 5 seasons of Family Matters over any black show, though.

I wonder if Bill Cosby was trying to get at Phylicia Rashad like Martin was doing to Gina in those bed scenes:lol::lol:

Even with its flaws.... it was arguably one of the greatest family sitcoms of all time.

As a matter of fact... I challenge anyone to name me a better family sitcom over the Cosby Show?

I liked the Cosby Show but i'd choose Good Times over it

Good Times, What's Happening, the Jeffersons, All in the Family, Happy Days, Fresh Prince...

nigga's head literally bouncing on his shoulders..:giggle:

I SAID ET MON!!

greatest television ever.

restored black pride.

aspirational.

thank you Dr William H. Cosby.
it was unrealistic though, the majority of black families wasn't living like them in NYC in the 80's. Good Times was a more realistic show that detailed how some Black people really lived than what the Cosby Show displayed.

They are purposely sinking the show because

It promotes a normal melanin rich family...

If he had some fags on the show regularly

Or a mixed family. He would've gotten a pass...

The nerve of Cosby inspiring black love and black college education

And now he is trying to own a network and

Create more positive images for "black"

People

He must be stopped....

Said the folks at NBC and I blame rockefeller since he owns nbc
..
Cliff actually had two mixed daughters on the show that they gave him. Sondra was mixed and Denise was mixed.

I mean showing his daughters in interracial relationships whoring after cacs
Cliff had white friends on the show and they never seemed racist as a family, so I think he wouldn't have minded if any of his daughters dated outside their race.

A Different World that was a Cosby show spin off and was created by Bill Cosby had a white girl going to Hillman on the first season and was roommates with his daughter denise there.

Most Whites Families didn't live like the Brady Bunch, My Three Sons, The Seavers , the Bunkers or Andy Griffen.

I lived in Chicago during Good Times and we lived more like the Cosby Family not like a family living in a high rise project.
Most Black People in Chicago didn't live like the Evans Family from Good Times.

It is false and misleading to state that most Black live or lived in Chicago Projects.

More white lies and misleading stereotypes.

Stick to watching old episodes of Degrassi.

Agreed that it may have been unrealistic for some...., I would argue that it accurately reflected a small subset and more importantly influenced and became aspirational for many...including a significant number of people who may living that reality. Google "the huxtable effect"

The premise you suppose would seem silly if it wasn't verified by history.

There has been a persistent campaign to maintain the contrived identity of black people. The propaganda campaign against Black people has been in effect for several centuries.

Everybody accepts the Psychopedia of Black folks as if it's rooted in reality irregardless of their race, religion and national origin.

They going hard with the feminization of black men and the independent black women

Who secretly lust for a cac daddy......

Yo they got this commercial for Corona beer where is shows some cac going through various social events... at night in the dark he is with a sister the next day he on the beach in daylight with a becky.

The subliminals are real

The mind fuckery is perpetual

They never show a melanin rich couple together unless it's something negative

Like an ad for aids or the couple in a car crash

Too many of us don't understand the psychological imagery warfare and how effective it is on naive minds

I never said most white families lived like the Brady Bunch and all those other shows you named, all I said was most black families didn't live like the Cosby's and that's a fact. Just because your family lived like the Cosby's like you said don't mean that alot of other black families did as well.

yeah it reflected a small subset that's true. Good Times was a more realistic show for blacks back in the 70's than what the Cosby Show reflected in the 80's.

90% of all commercials with a least one Black person rarely ever features a 2nd Black person as part of a Black couple. A black person is paired with a white person, mixed person or is solo.

Dude, you claim to be Canadian. You don't how Black families lived in the US during the Cosby area.

It is a damn lie to state that most Black folks in the US lived in the Projects during the Good Times era. Your statement certainly doesn't apply to Chicago. Most cities in the US never built projects. There were no Compton Cali projects.

White guys and their belief in stereotypes.

These complexes are operated by state and local housing authorities which are authorized and funded by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. More than 1.2 million households currently live in public housing of some type.

Subsidized apartment buildings, often referred to as housing projects or colloquially "the projects", have a complicated and often notorious history in the United States.

1.2 million households currently live in the Projects. This number includes Blacks, Latinos, Whites and every other racial group. Even if Black households make up half the number of households in the projects that number wouldn't represent 10% of Black households in the US.

Dumbshit alert.

You think is was more common and realistic for a man without an 8th grade diploma to live in the projects with his non working wife and 3 children. In the same building as the repairman and Wylona a small business owner.

JJ didn't have a job.
Thelma didn't have a job.
Florida didn't have a job.

And why they do dont have any family in the area?

One star

I wish I could slap this shit

Cousin Oliver? The Brady Bunch?

Is the OP white

I was referring to it was more common back then in the Good Times era for Blacks living in the Ghetto compared to Black people living in an expensive Brown Stone in Brooklyn.

was thrown off by the cousin oliver term myself..i was like who the fuck is that

bobbyoliver.jpg

Cousin Oliver is that inexplicable kid added to the show's roster, usually in an attempt to liven up an aging cast with a character the younger demographics can (supposedly) relate to. However, such a character is likely to upset the dynamic of the show, especially since his only job is to be cute and innocently wisecracking. It's far too easy for the writers to miss "sweetly precocious" and tumble right into "overbearing and annoying", especially to the show's long-time fans (who don't see why this kid should be taking attention away from their favorite characters anyway). Depending on how deft the writers are at making him "lovable," Cousin Oliver can become a fan favorite or The Scrappy (or worse).

Sometimes Cousin Oliver is the logical result of a character's season-long pregnancy arc. Once the writers have exhausted the possibilities of new baby hijinks, the infant undergoes Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome so he can become a regular member of the cast. (Though this doesn't always make it better.) Compare Kid-Appeal Character, who is generally there from the beginning. If the addition is a literal cousin, see also Nephewism.

Often a form of Jumping the Shark.

But some Black folk really did live like that. Maybe not too many Dr and Lawyer couples, but it wasn't that rare for black families with college educated parents in the 70's and 80's. Especially in the major urban areas.

Look at almost all the black sitcoms that were on TV before Cosby. Either Single mothers or families in the Ghetto (or both). The Jeffersons were probably upper middle class, but it wasn't a family show. Even worse they were putting black kids on TV without any black parents (Different Strokes, Webster). All those shows were the product of white (jewish) peoples imagination of what black life looked like.

Cosby said hey we can be middle class or upper middle class and still be undeniably black.
