Jobs at Camp Atterbury offering up to $3,500 weekly

CAMP ATTERBURY, Ind. — A company is offering up to $3,500 a week for janitors, cooks, food service workers and dishwashers at Camp Atterbury.
"We are able to pay higher salaries for these jobs because we want to attract high quality, dedicated people who are willing to work long, hard hours," said Diane Scott Adams, a spokesperson for AIM World Services, which is hiring for the positions.
"That's a lot of money!" said Traci Scott, who works at the Tasty Shop Two, a restaurant and bar in Edinburgh. "If that's what it takes to get people back to work, I guess that’s what we’re gonna have to do."
Not all positions will pay nearly as high as the $3,500 and some of that could also include overtime.
"This just goes to the sign of the times. Companies are doing whatever they can to entice workers to apply for jobs right now," said Kyle Anderson, an economist at IU Kelley School of Business.
But he cautioned this is an exception and likely not indicative of where service industry pay is going in general.

Applicants can apply in-person at a job fair hosted by AIM World Services this week. The job fair is being held at the Hilton Garden Inn at 12210 North Executive Drive in Edinburgh from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

For consideration of an immediate position, applicants should bring a resume and two forms of government-issued identification.
Applicants must undergo a background check and drug screen.

Q. How many people is AIM hiring?
A. We plan to hire approximately 100 people to fill the dining operations positions.
Q. Is AIM really paying $3,500 a week?
A. The salaries range from $1,000 a week to over $3,500 a week depending on the number of hours worked and the position. Obviously, a cook will earn more than a dishwasher. With the overtime wages an employee has the potential to make $3,500 a week in wages.
Q. Do candidates need to be fully vaccinated to get hired?
A. President Biden signed Executive Order 14042 on Sept. 9, 2021. EO 14042 "Ensuring Adequate COVID Safety Protocols for Federal Contractors," which requires all contractors working on-site at a Federal facility to be fully vaccinated. AIM will require new hires to have their first vaccination prior to starting work and their second vaccination within the timeframe recommended by the vaccine manufacturer (i.e., Pfizer within 3 weeks)
Q. Are these jobs temporary? How long will the job last?
A. Yes. These are temporary contract jobs that are anticipated to last approximately six months with a possible extension that would extend the employment terms beyond six months.
Q. Do candidates have to live in the Edinburgh area?
A. No. We are accepting applications from across the state and region. For candidates who are hired, AIM will pay for employee accommodation and travel costs, and we will provide a per diem for those employees who qualify under the Federal Travel Regulation.

Q. How many hours a week does an employee have to work to get a $3,500 check? What position makes $3,500 a week?
A. The salary ranges from the actual number of hours worked and the position level. The cook positions will pay higher than the janitor or dishwasher positions. To get a check for $3,616, a cook supervisor will work 72 hours a week. The $3,616 is for hourly wages only and does not include per diem, accommodations or reimbursement for travel. AIM is providing $55 a day per diems, covering the cost of accommodations and air travel, or reimbursing personnel for travel by personal vehicle if the employee qualifies under the Federal Travel Regulation (FTR).

Q. Are these jobs paid hourly? Or are they salary?
A. All positions are paid hourly with overtime for hours worked over 40 hours a week. For any employee that qualifies under the Federal Travel Regulation (FTR) guidelines (living outside the area), AIM will also cover travel expenses to Camp Atterbury, hotel accommodations, and provide a $55 a day per diem for meals and incidentals.

Q. On average, how many hours will an employee work a week?
A. We are expecting employees to work six days a week with 10 to 12 hour shifts, and we are paying full overtime pay for all hours worked over 40 hours a week.
