The ring is just a token of affection that is all.......the fact that the MAN wants to spend the rest of his life with you....is the GIFT.

The 3x monthly salary thing is BULLSIT. The diamond industry came up with that marketing shit to help THEMSELVES make more money. Imagine if Toyota started making commercials saying you should spend 3x your annual income on the sticker price of a car.


Better yet tell the NEGRO that you do not need a ring.......that his LOVE is enough.

****Males and Females PLEASE**** My boyfriend is talking seriously about getting engaged and this is my first serious relationship that has led up to the talk of marriage. He wants to get a ring and has asked my opinion.... of which I have no clue. We're both educators and do ok for ourselves, but we have to look out for the future. How much do you recommend he spend on the ring?

Take a damn silver band.....whats the point it shows absolutely nothing in regard s to the quality of the relationship. Stay focused on what is really important..the marriage....not the 4 hr party aka wedding or some piece of jewelry...

As a married man I totally agree with the above. I have "up-graded" (totally my wife's word towards jewelry) my wife from the original engagement ring after our first child. So get something modest and affordable. The only piece of advice I can add to the above is Do not purchase your rings from any retail jewelry store. The mark-up is ridiculous and the quality is poor. Don't take debt from the purchase of rings into a new marriage. Try to find a wholesale jewelry vendor, like "The Gift Center" in San Francisco. Congratulations, good luck and God bless!!!

I agree with the wholesale route too, if online is not your thing. But NEVER go to a retail store, you will get raped beyond belief.
