****Males and Females PLEASE**** My boyfriend is talking seriously about getting engaged and this is my first serious relationship that has led up to the talk of marriage. He wants to get a ring and has asked my opinion.... of which I have no clue. We're both educators and do ok for ourselves, but we have to look out for the future. How much do you recommend he spend on the ring?

Don't they say three months of your salary, if she's worth it, well, three months it is, Diamonds if you like it, but if you don't, well, then cool, look for the three C's Clarity, Cut, and Carat I believe, but I'm not married so I could be wrong. but three month's pay is usually the norm from what I've heard

Every dollar you don't waste on an engagement ring that'll be traded in for a gold ban, is a dollar that can go towards your honeymoon, or a house, or a college fund for a kid.

depends on your net worth

can u cook
can u clean
can u fuk
can u suck
can u at least bring in 50g's
all equally important seperately

I'm a need you to be a woman about yours.
Nip that shit in the bud before it happens.
Tell him about the other niggas your fucking on the side.
Save him the heart ache, and finances, and go about ya damn business.

So let me get this straight...this is your way of introducing your fiancée to the smut traders of B.G.O.L.

Like some honey, this is what i do type sh!t.

thanks, femm :D

YW.

But you should spend what you can spend. Many people upgrade later during anniversaries.

And she's on this board and you work in the same field so she's open-minded, understanding and she knows the deal. Sounds like you picked a winner hon!

So get a modest ring now and when you make it 5 years, get an even better one...and so on and so forth.

i guess it depends on what your looking for. the 3 month rule? i don't know about following that. i spent 11k on a ring and that's not under the 3 month rule. do you. judging from your s/o's questions it doesn't sound like she's the boojie type and will appreciate anything modest.

Does it really matter how much he spends on the ring?
Will you love him any more or less depending on how much he spends?

biggest mistake i use to see black men do when buying an engagement ring....

taking their woman with them..

two occasions i saw couples arguing and one kat getting his ass handed to him verbally because he was looking at the wrong ring....

another occassion i saw dude just say fuckit and walked out on girl that was with him over a ring dispute.....

question about that 3 month unwritten rule

is that gross or net?

i think before my girl and i take that step we will live together for a bit so i'll be able save some more money as well as clear some debt.

I think any wise woman should be open enough to discuss it beforehand.

Doc, consider yourself very lucky. Alot of women have this dumb ass hangup about engagement rings and weddings, wanting things to be uber extravagant.

I'd take a simple ring and wedding with an outstanding & long lasting marriage over a huge rock, an even bigger wedding and a marriage that doesn't even make it to 2 years.

As a married man I totally agree with the above. I have "up-graded" (totally my wife's word towards jewelry) my wife from the original engagement ring after our first child. So get something modest and affordable. The only piece of advice I can add to the above is Do not purchase your rings from any retail jewelry store. The mark-up is ridiculous and the quality is poor. Don't take debt from the purchase of rings into a new marriage. Try to find a wholesale jewelry vendor, like "The Gift Center" in San Francisco. Congratulations, good luck and God bless!!!
