This photo speaks volumes. If I would have seen it like 1) then I wouldn't have ocked myself like I did.

Since the equation was written like 2) then it was misleading to me and most of people who chose 2 as the answer to the problem.

So ehhh.....I'll take my lose this time, but next time :yes::yes:
 
I you believe that then you have your reason, but the parenthesis do make a difference in this particular problem. Answer this is

48*2(9+3) the same as 48*(18+6)

And it's the same as 48*2(12) and 96(12) and 96(9+3) and (96*9) + (96*3)

You still need work out whats inside the parentheses first.

You always work left to right if they are the same rank.

The other problem had division in the front so you had to divide first then multiply.
 
Brothers the answer is 2 I teach Adult Education math. This problem covers the order of operations in math. For Adults it is a bitch to work out if you don't know the order of operations. When you use the calculator and just punch the numbers in without knowing the order of operations you will come up with 288 which is incorrect.

No they are not because you have to multiply 2(12) first which will not give you 96 Brother, you have 48*24 not 96*12. You have parenthesis, in the order of operations, parenthesis are worked first until they are eliminated from the problem.

I got a 92% pass rate on GED's it is the parenthesis Brother Alex they don't just disappear if you drop them after you get 12 you are wrong they still remain which leaves you with 2(12) they don"t disappear until you do that part of the problem.

Do the math for every single example I gave there. Type out each one and your answers.

It how the problem was written. Look at it this way

(48/2) x (9+3)

(9+3) is NOT is the denominator

(48 / 2) / (9 + 3) as well

ELIMINATION of parentheses does not matter after you perform whats inside of it. Thats why you do it first.

ONCE you get (12) you are ready to multiply it. You have to do 48/2 first because DIVISION comes first. YOU MUST work left to right.


To multiply 2 *(12) would go against the fact that division and multiplication dont have rank amongst each other

6/6(1+1)= 6/6*(2)=2

According to you its

6/6*(2)= 1/2

even though 6/6*2 is the same as 6/6*(2)

You eliminate the problem inside the () not the other way. Show me a reference somewhere to prove me wrong.
