Four people were killed and seven others injured when a mass shooting broke out at a July 4 block party in Shreveport, Louisiana, authorities said.

About 200 people were at the annual event when, around 11:40 p.m., multiple men engaged in an exchange of gunfire, Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith and Councilwoman Tabatha Taylor said at a news conference on Wednesday.

At first, three people were reported killed, the chief said, and then on Wednesday morning, a fourth body was discovered in the area.

"You will not get away with this," Taylor said in an emotional message to the shooters. "What you have done is traumatized this community. You have traumatized us in a way that is unfathomable. ... I want whoever you are to pay."

The councilwoman and the police chief are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Man I was just telling my wife this a few days ago. No morals. There were times when you caught someone slipping, but if they were with their kids, mama, etc, you gave them a pass. But you let ‘em know that they could’ve been got. Now they have shootouts here now at the traffic light in some of the busiest parts of the city at 3pm, not caring who’s around or who’s with their “opps”. When they say on sight, they mean it. Guarantee the shooter/shooters are under 22 y/o.

As you know, cats been wilding out since we were teens in the 90s in Cleveland and before that. Spray the block, give no fucks who was outside. Pop the trunk, who cares who is at the party. Absolutely nothing has changed, It's like a relay race where the baton is just passed to the next runner. One generation to the next.

Not my idea of a party either and I’m sure it wasn’t theirs. It was actually an event they have annually on that day. Majority of the people that live in that area or that was at that function are related in someway. Almost like a family reunion. But you don’t know who there had problems in the street and by being there caused everybody else to be in danger. Most of the time it’s some retaliation shit. A few weeks ago an elderly lady was shot outside her home. I’m sure it was one of her grandkids that was there who was the intended target. These lil boys go out and do all of this shit in the streets and come right around their family like ain’t nothin happened. Knowing this city ain’t big and they can easily find where you lay your head. Now your mama or grandma’s house shot up smh. And it’s a cycle

I know there's certain places I don't go and won't go, and I also know to have at least a half a tank. You don't want to be needing gas at a place where you got to look over your shoulder
