2017 CHICAGO BEARS Off-Season Thread

Thats the million dolla question...both GMs claim other teams wanted to move, but who really knows. My opinion you stay at 3, keep your picks and draft whatever Qb is there later or not at all..

It's been confirmed that no one was trying to get Mitch at #2. 49ers GM hustled yall.

Man, when Cleveland ended up making their pick at 12 with no trade from the Bears I knew we were stuck with this idiotic bullshit of a move up 1 spot to get something that was more than likely gonna be there anyway, if not, still draft DB from Ohio State or Watson while still holding on to ur two 3rd rounders and ur 4th to build that D up like the Monsters of the Midway are known for.:angry::angry:

Naaaa mayne... "Yall" didnt get fleeced. That arrogant cac GM did. Muthafuckas have a god complex about that fucking position. Fuck the Pats, there are other ways to win a chip. Build a lights out D, a solid run game and a solid QB. Hell REX GROSSMAN was in a Superbowl with that setup, REX GROSSMAN!!! But they all want they one... Every cac GM will go to hell and back to get his 1 great white savior QB.

Trent Dilfer man.. it's always more reliable to build your defense... you can go a long ways with a great defense and a solid offensive line and this was the draft so load up on defenders... you'll get defensive starters in the 3rd round on this draft.

This is what pisses me off the most. The Bears arent THAT far off. They just need some playmakers. This was the draft to get allot of good defensive players. QB WASNT EVEN A FUCKING NEED!!! So now you have 2 QBs that nobody is high on but him, but they have NO weapons. So we know how this story ends. I hope he has some tricks up his sleeves to get back those lost picks, otherwise... Shit wont be any better this year, than it was last year.

what's crazy is the bears have to know this... the franchise's best teams had the same formula...defense first.

John Fox Reportedly Unaware of Mitchell Trubisky Pick Until Right Before Draft
TIM DANIELS
APRIL 28, 2017

Chicago Bears head coach John Fox reportedly didn't learn of the team's plan to acquire the second overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers until a few hours before the franchise executed the deal so it could select North Carolina quarterback Mitchell Trubisky.

Kevin Seifert of ESPN passed along the behind-the-scenes information about the Bears' shocking draft-day swap from the outlet's Chris Mortensen.

Chicago general manager Ryan Pace quickly stressed free-agent signing Mike Glennon remains on track to start for the team despite its investment in Trubisky, per Rich Campbell and Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune. But he still felt the need to make the bold move.

"If we want to be great, you just can't sit on your hands," Pace said. "There are times when you've got to be aggressive, and when you have conviction on a guy, you can't sit on your hands. I just don't want to be average around here; I want to be great. And these are the moves you have to make."

Exactly how much Fox knew beforehand remains unclear following the ESPN report, though. Later in Pace's post-round comments he made it sound like the idea of taking the UNC signal-caller was an option firmly on the table all along.

"John and I are arm-and-arm in all these decisions. So we talked about this thoroughly, and we're connected on this," he said. "John is just as excited as I am. So when you have an opportunity to get a quarterback of this caliber, you can't pass on it. So we're good."

Interestingly, it's not the first time Fox may not have been entirely involved in an organizational decision to draft a high-profile quarterback.

Darin Gantt of Pro Football Talk noted the former Carolina Panthers coach said at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine he didn't research Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen before the team selected him in the second round of the 2010 draft.

"Personally, I never even watched him, because he wasn't a targeted guy for me in our pre-draft assignments," Fox said. "But I can say now I would hope we draft someone that I've actually gotten a chance to watch."

Although the Bears signaled a commitment to Glennon in the immediate aftermath of the pick, his mediocre track record suggests it won't take long for the Trubisky calls to begin. There's a strong chance he'll be the starter before the end of his rookie campaign.

It's like the Browns and Bears are starring in a "Freaky Friday" reboot.

Naw, we're far off. That's why getting rid of a third and fourth in this draft hurts. We can't miss in our picks and free agent signings.

Thats the million dolla question...both GMs claim other teams wanted to move, but who really knows. My opinion you stay at 3, keep your picks and draft whatever Qb is there later or not at all..

:(

This is why I don't even bother watching Bears drafts. Never fails. Any high pick they get, they do some dumbshit, or waste. You pay a guy to be your QB for the next few seasons at least. No good WRs for him to throw to, avg Oline, decent front 7, but below avg secondary, could use a great pass rusher while we're at it... All of those things can be addressed with the 3rd pick, or trade down and get more picks to add depth. What do they do??? Trade up to get a QB no one wanted that high in the draft. All those holes are still there, but now we have less picks to fill them with. Good job Pace... Emery... Angelo... I won't throw Hatley under the bus, at least he had a plan. But same shit, every GM...

We have no reason to be optimistic over drafts even when we have a high pick. Which we'll have again next year

:smh:

Just saw John Fox didn’t know about the plan to draft Trubinski:smh:

Makes no fuckin sense.

The team needs a #1 WR, still have to see if we have a #2 WR, a TE, a QB(even though we supposedly have one now), a good LT, help all across the defensive backfield, and more help in the front 7. And a bonafide return guy and kicker.

as of right now, based off all the picks we gave up, and what we lacked outside the qb position, that 1st round picked seems very silly....but we'll see.

I think we shouldve worked on our defense this year (secondary), and worried about a QB in the later rounds or maybe next year....but I dont run the team..so whateva.

Basically.

The main issue with the offense was injuries and improper play calling in the redzone.

Drafting a QB this year wasnt a MUST. They couldve drafted a good young d-player to add to the great young guys that they already have on defense, add a couple FA vets to help mold, but they didnt..:smh:

I don't see how anyone can say we're not far of

What do we have that you feel comfortable with?

RB?
WR?
O Line?
D Line?
Linebackers?
DB's?

The Chicago Bears Might Be the New Cleveland Browns

By: Jason McIntyre | May 2, 2017 9:00 pm ET

It’s been a rough 10 years since Rex Grossman, Lovie Smith and Brian Urlacher led the Bears to the Super Bowl in 2007. They’ve reached the playoffs just once since – in 2010, which culminated with an NFC title game loss to Green Bay; the memorable “Jay Cutler injury” game – the franchise is careening out of control with no end in sight.

The last five seasons have been particularly disastrous: Lovie Smith went 10-6 and was fired, and they brought in Canadian Football League offensive guy Marc Trestman, who flopped for two seasons. Enter John Fox, who has had no luck with an atrocious roster. He’s unlikely to make it out of year three.

It’s not only the coaching changes – GM, too. Jerry Angelo stockpiled the roster with talent for a decade, but Phil Emery replaced him in 2012. Emery was bounced quicker than the Bulls from the playoffs. His replacement was Ryan Pace, the youngest GM in the league. He came highly-touted from New Orleans, but all he’s done so far is draft a couple good running backs in the mid-late rounds (Jeremy Langford in 2015, Jordan Howard in 2016).

Otherwise, Pace has struggled, whiffing (so far) on Kevin White in the first round in 2015, and then inexplicably trading up for Mitchell Trubisky last week.

This is going on five years of essentially, Cleveland Browns-grade ineptitude.

And I didn’t even bring up Mike Glennon, a signing I actually liked. But why give him $18 million guaranteed, and then trade up for Trubisky, who is a year away from being a year away?

Press is killing the Bears.

this shit is just like the Rams when they picked Jared Goff and gave up all them draft picks....
dude was mediocre as fuck last year. didn't get to start til week 11.....and had 5 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.
Mitchell is gonna be the same if not worse......juss wait n see.....

Ok lets clear somethings up. Ive been reading on this shit for the last 4 days because its such a cluster fuck.

1. Fox knew the Bears wanted Trubisky. He didn't know how much they were willing to part with and didn't know the deal happened. (Pace doesn't have to tell him shit) Fox was at UNC pro day with the rest of the Bears. Im sure he knew how bad Pace wanted Mitch

2. The days leading up to the draft, Pace told Lynch and another SF executive that they were interested in a possible trade up and if anyone gave them an offer, he would like a chance to match or beat it. That way, SF doesn't have to move down too far and the Bears could get the player they wanted.

3. Lynch and SF thought the Bears wanted Thomas and was willing to deal.

4. The deal prior to the start of the draft was trade back and 2 third rounders.

5. Value for 1st round #2 pick: 2600 points. #3 pick is worth:2200 points. Bears have to make up 400 points.

3rd round this year (67th pick) Valued at 255 points (, 3rd round next year is worth (on average assuming bears are drafting top 5 again) 255

Ok so thats basically 510 points to make up the difference. Per the calculator tat GMs use, Pace only was getting "fleeced" by 110 points which equals a 97th overall pick (4th round pick at #1 or #2)

6. 49ers didn't know the Bears wanted Trubisky (no one did)

7. Bears and 9ers had a gentleman's deal that it would be 2 3rd round picks, Pace agreed. 49ers asked for an additional 4th round pick (some say thats fair in GM land, others think it is kind of sleazy and underhanded)

8. Pace thought this meant someone else was offering more, or he was willing to loose a 4th to solidify his pick.

9. 49ers wanted to trade down from 3 (this is REALLY important)

10. After Bears picked Trubisky, 49ers couldn't trade out of the 3rd spot.

All this tells me is Pace either stuck to his guns or got too attached to drafting a QB (Im sure he felt his career was on the line with all the no QB drafted in 2 years talk)

also, after Trubisky was picked, NO ONE WANTED TO TRADE. Means that some teams (Browns at least) wanted to trade to get Trubisky

All this long shit to say, the media is taking this shit way too far. Honestly, Bears went after their guy. I'm fine with it. My first reaction was to wild out over the picks given up and only for 1 spot. After looking at everything, I get it. I'm ok with it.

Pace better put all his effort into developing this cat.

Also of note, The Bears asked Glennon to attend the draft party (and he did)!!! KNOWING they were going to trade up for Mitch.

DIRTY AS FUCK!

Overall all Bears trades from 2017 Draft:
Bears gave up 3rd and 7th round picks, and moved down 12 spots this year & moved back 1 round next year.

I've been looking at the press beat us down and thought of the season last year. It occurred to me that our defense was middle of the road overall even with injuries and suspensions. Our main problem was we couldn't score TDs in the red zone or convert 3rd downs. So pace gets a whole new set of QBs, new receivers and TEs. I think he gets it. There were only 3-4 games that we truly weren't competitive in last year. I think we take a big leap if Glennon is a B level qb. Defense will look good. McPhee healthy, Freeman back, Trevathan healthy, Goldman now healthy, Floyd with a year under his belt makes for a good looking front. Getting something out of Bullard is key. If Fuller is playing for a contract we might be ok!! Not to mention the bodies he threw at secondary.

No one gave Pace credit for snagging white hair or Howard or Floyd gotta have a little faith. Talking heads know no more than the rest of us.

My .02 - rant over.

Right on. The media is def over blowing things at this point. I esp agree with your points quoted above.

After having read up on all the moving parts and rationale I'm fine with the pick too. Im a little more concerned with some of the smaller school picks later in the draft but we'll see how those pan out.

Those folks that are slamming us at this point are either:

..simply looking for a story to write,
..mad cuz their mock draft went to shit, ..mad cuz THEY didn't get MT, or
..just tryna clown cuz they hate the Bears.

I think the issue is Glennon, the media is treating it like it is more than a one year contract

My issue is this, next years draft is considered a better QB draft...unless Glennon turns in to Steve Young we're getting a top five pick again next year. So why trade so much? Trubisky is better than everyone in this years and next years draft? That's my issue.

And for a team where I say the only position I'm comfortable with is RB, and has had a bunch of injuries that expose our lack of depth...we need those day two and three draft picks

In all honesty I'm still not too crazy about them doing that for Trubisky especially with the other needs on the team. With that said, if the Browns had done as some people suspected and drafted Trubisky and the Bears had made the exact same trade to get Garrett people would be calling Pace a genius right now. I do understand that Garrett is for good reason more highly regarded than Trubisky.

Victor Cruz agrees to one-year contract with Bears

The Chicago Bears continue to add to their collection of veteran wide receivers.

Former Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz has agreed to terms with the team on a one-year deal, the Bears announced. Cruz celebrated the news with a slick photoshop.

News of the move was first reported by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Kimberly Jones.

Since being released by the Giants in mid-February, Cruz had garnered interest from the Bears, Jaguars and Ravens, but only met with Chicago. His unceremonious departure from Big Blue continued to bother him as he went unsigned throughout the offseason, even up until this week when he told a radio show that his dip in production down the stretch in 2016 was due to the Giants' front office intentionally sabotaging his season.

Cruz is the fourth notable wide receiver to join the Bears this offseason. Chicago has signed former Steelers wideout Markus Wheaton, former Titans receiver Kendall Wright and Cruz's ex-teammate Rueben Randle to complement Kevin White and Cameron Meredith.

There's no telling whether Cruz will find his footing in Chicago's deep but competitive receiving corps; that's for a spicy training camp battle to decide. But his signing in the Windy City allows for the wide receiver to rewrite his career with a rebuilding unit after multiple injury-addled seasons with the Giants.

Only thing I care about... Is Nike gonna give us a Bears colorway of his kicks... I need something to rock with my Bears shit.

yeah. his sneaks are nice!! I wasnt feeling the strap over the top of the shoe at first, but that strap give the shoes a retro type vibe.

If they kept most of the shoe white, and played around with the orange and navy, id' buy em.

Idk fam, this was a reach, and qb was not an immediate need, this is our problem, we reach for some random ass dude and he never pans out, when's the last time a qb taken high has panned out maybe 2004, but does Mitch tribiskey strike you as Eli Ben or Philip

As for Cruz a washed ass wr that's past his prime because we thought Kevin whites garbage ass was a steal, and we let Jeffery go and Marshall, because we got so many bright ideas

I am glad they are testing the free agency waters with WRs
but with all these acquisitions I hope this mans words
don't haunt us BEAR fans.
