Markieff Morris "I Want To Be Here"

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Markieff Morris: &quot;I want to be here.&quot; He said he doesn't want to talk about the past (summer issues with the Suns). <a href="http://t.co/AAMf7xVQmY">pic.twitter.com/AAMf7xVQmY</a></p>&mdash; Paul Coro (@paulcoro) <a href="https://twitter.com/paulcoro/status/648544022303141888">September 28, 2015</a></blockquote>

"I want to be here," Morris said while wearing his Suns No. 11 jersey for media day.

Morris did not elaborate on how he has expressed unhappiness with the Suns since early July, when they traded his twin, Marcus, to Detroit while they were on vacation. It was a payroll-cutting move to pursue free agent target LaMarcus Aldridge, who would have replaced Markieff as the starting power forward but he chose San Antonio over Phoenix.

"I'm looking forward to the season, not really trying to look at the past," Morris said. "I don't really want to talk about what I did in the summer. I really want to look forward to this up-and-coming season. Glad to be back with my teammates and glad to be back with the team."

When asked about his discord with the front office, Morris said, "It's between us and we're going to deal with it."

Thompson Willing to Play on One-Year Deal If Cavs Don't Offer Max Contract
Bleacher Report's Ric Bucher reported Thompson is looking to secure a max deal from the Cavs, and if they are unwilling to meet his request, he'll play on the one-year qualifying offer with plans to sign a max contract with the Toronto Raptors next summer:

Carmelo Anthony offers to be 'big brother' to Kristaps Porzingis
"I kind of feel bad for him because there's so much pressure on him at this point and this guy hasn't played not even one minute in the NBA," Anthony said during the Knicks' media day Monday. "I'm going to try to be a big brother to him and kind of take the pressure off of him a little bit.

"It's something that he never experienced before ... so this is new to him. To be a newcomer to this game, to this league, in New York, that's tough. I don't know if he knows what he's about to get himself into, so I kind of have to be that wall for him."

Porzingis said he and Anthony trained together over the summer at Anthony's gym and at the team training facility. The rookie and eight-time All-Star would play games of one-on-one.

Porzingis: My moment will come sooner or later"
Carmelo Anthony plans on serving as a big brother for Kristaps Porzingis during for the upcoming season with the Knicks.

"As I played against him, he was showing off all his moves and I was trying to learn from him," Porzingis said. "... I'm trying to learn as much as I can from him, asking him questions. For me to be around him all day long is great."

Said Anthony: "I'm just there to be that sounding board and that guy to let him know what's here to come."

Iman Shumpert will undergo right wrist surgery this week that is expected to sideline him for more than three months, the team announced Tuesday.

Shumpert suffered a ruptured extensor carpi ulnaris sheath "several days" before the start of training camp, which opened up Tuesday, according to the team. He received an MRI on Monday after being examined by Dr. Thomas Graham and Dr. Richard Parker at the Cleveland Clinic which confirmed the injury.

Miami Heat are positioned to emerge as top Cavaliers rival
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="und" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/HEATLifer?src=hash">#HEATLifer</a> <a href="http://t.co/QQXMTg18Ck">pic.twitter.com/QQXMTg18Ck</a></p>&mdash; Miami HEAT (@MiamiHEAT) <a href="https://twitter.com/MiamiHEAT/status/648582662609870848">September 28, 2015</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
The Heat see themselves as possibly sporting the best starting lineup able to challenge in the East. Dragic and Wade are All-NBA caliber guards in the backcourt with Wade's health a hopefully manageable question moving forward. Luol Deng is still a good two-way small forward, who now has Gerald Green and Winslow pushing him for rotation minutes. Bosh is one of the best big men in the league as long as the blood clot issues are behind him. And the emergence of Hassan Whiteside off the scrap heap and into looking like a quality starting center rounds out the lineup.

The Heat were able to retain Luol Deng, Goran Dragic and Dwyane Wade. They drafted Justise Winslow, added Amar'e Stoudemire and Gerald Green. And they expect both Josh McRoberts and Chris Bosh to be healthy to start training camp. On paper, they are compelling.

Riley's latest concoction becomes a valiant effort at challenging the Cavs and because of the flawed and weakened stature of the conference, the Heat almost become the top rival of the Cavs by default. The Bulls and Hawks couldn't force an uneasy feeling during the playoffs. The Wizards and Bucks might not be ready. The Raptors aren't going to be taken seriously because of their demise the final four months of the season. And the Boston Celtics are still waiting for top talent to spearhead Brad Stevens' attack.

The Cavs are still the overwhelming favorites in the East and will continue to be as long as they have James in their uniform. However, a year later than proclaimed, the Heat may just have that "as competitive as anybody in the Eastern Conference" combination figured out. We'll just have to wait and see if that "anybody" ends up including the Cavs should they meet up in the postseason.

Rockets to monitor Dwight Howard's minutes, coach Kevin McHale says
Houston Rockets coach Kevin McHale said Monday the team will monitor the workload of star center Dwight Howard this upcoming season.

McHale said during the Rockets' media day session he doesn't have a specific plan for number of minutes played or whether Howard will participate in back-to-backs, but team doctors and the strength and conditioning staff will play a significant role in determining what guidelines the team might use.

"We'd like to make sure he plays more games and like to make sure he's more healthy this year because he's a huge part of what we're doing and he is such a dominant force," McHale said.

Parsons: Nobody Respects Us This Year
"We have a lot to prove, which I think is a great thing,’’ small forward Chandler Parsons said. "Everyone’s writing us off.

"Nobody respects us this year.’’

Part of the reason the doubters have come out in full force is because the Mavs appear to be in transition. Power forward Dirk Nowitzki is 37 years old and moving closer to retirement, shooting guard Wesley Matthews and Parsons are coming off surgery, point guard Deron Williams is trying to jump-start his career following two sub-par injury-riddled seasons, and center JaVale McGee has played just 28 out of a possible 164 games over the past two years due to a lingering stress fracture in his left tibia.

"With me and Wes coming off surgery and him getting a big contract and Deron Williams having a lot to prove with everything that happened to him in Brooklyn and McGee getting hurt and Dirk being so old, everyone’s not even talking about the Mavs, which is good,’’ Parsons said. "Now we have motivation.

"With the makeup of our roster and our guys, we have a lot of humble, hungry guys with a chip on their shoulder ready to prove everybody wrong.’’

Wesley Matthews likely out until Christmas; big blow for Mavericks
Despite his optimism back in August, Wesley Matthews' recovery from his Achilles injury will prevent him from playing for the Dallas Mavericks for a lot longer than he and the organization initially hoped. Matthews was already supposed to miss training camp, but at the team's media day, head coach Rick Carlisle revealed that Matthews will also be out for their season opener.

Deron Williams wants to fight off doubts
"I want to prove myself wrong," Williams said Monday during the Mavericks' media day. "I started to doubt myself in the past. Mentally, it took a toll on me. I just got to get out of that rut that I was in the last couple years mentally, and I look forward to this situation.

"I think I'm past that. This fresh start has definitely helped that a lot. I'm looking forward to this year. It's a better situation."

Paul George Projected to Start at Power Forward for Indiana Pacers
Pacers coach Frank Vogel said Thursday that his projected starting lineup features Paul George making a full-time switch to power forward.

“An idea on paper is to have a starting lineup of George Hill, Monta Ellis, C.J. Miles, Paul George and Ian Mahinmi,” Vogel said, per Candace Buckner of the Indianapolis Star.

"I'm not thrilled on it," George said about the change on 1070 The Fan, per Buckner.

Um, you know it’s, uh, I was open for – to try it out. It’s definitely a change. It’s something new. We’ll see how it goes. As the season goes, it might be better for me to just be at my regular position. But I told them I was open to the situation and (we’ll) see where it goes.

[...]

It’s just being outmatched strength-wise with guys at the four spot is really the only concern. It’s not really the concern for one game. It’s the concern just over the course of a season just how my body would take it, especially coming off the injury that I had and a whole year of rehabbing. Just not sure of how it’s going to take it. (We’ll) start camp, see how camp goes. Again, I’m not too thrilled on it, but it could change the more comfortable I get at the position. But we’ll see. But again, I could very much end up loving it, so it’s all up in the air. I’m open to the position.

According to the team's press release, Rose suffered the injury after he "was struck in the face by an elbow." The point guard underwent tests that "determined he sustained a left orbital fracture."

Rose will undergo surgery Wednesday, and the timetable for his return to the court will be determined after the procedure.
