2014 Free Agency Thread

I'll never forget the year we passed on Stephen Jackson for Julius Jones......its because Bill Parcells felt all of those running backs were of all the same value so they can trade down and get another pick. He was a genius for like a good 4 months for that until it became quite evident what Julius Jones was and what Stephen Jackson would become.

That's my whole beef with that trade down shit. Trade down and get the guy you want. That's fine. But don't tell me you trading down because they are of all the same caliber type shit. Hell no.

We just havent had much success trading down and thats why I'm not a fan of it

Last year we got lucky, went against the board and everything but we lucked up with it

Hope that doesnt make Jerry think he can make a habit of that shit cuz as far back as I can remember his trade down, and up history is suspect recently other than 2013 and 2010 when we moved up for Dez

My thing is this there will be a player there at 16 that fits the slot

Take that guy

ansatsusha_gouki, How did the Denver utilize DRC last year? Was it just man coverage, or did they put him in zone?

they were usually up big so they ran mainly zone last season.

they complained about it rightfully so all year long

We're a man defense, but whenever we're up,we switch to zone..don't know why ,because it drives me fucking crazy, because its when teams come back on us....

Just look at the Patriots game in the AFC game,we play man for the most part and then all of a suddenly we rush 3 and drop 8 in coverage and that's how the Patriots were able to score....I don't know why we do it,but it drives me fucking crazy...

DRC did pretty good, but he don't like to tackle, especially if its a running back like LeGarrette Blount

aight.. just wondering.. cause supposedly the Giants are trying to go after him hard, and we run mainly zone.

We play a mix of zone and off man so the DBs are reacting to the ball, instead of press where they are back to the ball. It's designed to create turnovers and is one of the reasons we've been at or near the top of the league in takeaways since Perry installed this system.

With how the team is today, I won't mind seeing Jason Witten get traded to NE if we can shave off a lot of draft picks out of them

Lets say the pats wanna give us a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and next years 5th.

I'm doing that in a heartbeat.

NE has a lot of draft picks. Might be the best time to work that shit.

Fam, you getting a 6th round pick....MAYBE a 5th round pick if you're lucky for Witten. Pats made Hernandez a star. They not trading all of that shit for a 32 year old tight end......Witten means more to our team than a 6th rounder we'd get for him.

The Chiefs wasn't that bad though, they basically had the same team last year...The only thing that really changed was the quarterback...on top of that they had 7 Pro Bowlers on that squad...

That's true but at the same time those players got better. Even those 7 Pro Bowlers. Maybe Brandon Flowers is the only one that didn't really get better but he got more healthy. Shit changes so drastic from year to year because those core guys on teams simply get better. If you'd on't have a young core getting better you're going to see 8-8 or worse year in and out.

Man we getting a 4th at best for Witten

Minus Whale keep him on the team

Did he really just imply that NE would give a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and a 5th for Witten? I don't even know if you could get all that for Aaron Rodgers, much less Witten.

Yeah, that's that sophisticated shit he's talking about

Shit.. DRC opposite Prince, with Rolle, Hill and Brown in the middle of field would be the nicest secondary the Giants have had in a long ass time

Cowboys could be a wild-card for Jared Allen

Free-agent Jared Allen is looking for a “fair contract” and a “chance to win.”

And yet he still could be interested in the Cowboys.

As Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported earlier on Sunday, Allen did indeed visit the Seahawks on Sunday. Rapoport also pointed out that Allen could make another visit this week.

A source with knowledge of Allen’s visit to Seattle suggests that the next team Allen visits could be the Cowboys.

Dallas definitely has a need. With DeMarcus Ware gone and Anthony Spencer a free agent, the Cowboys have added Jeremy Mincey from the Broncos.

The Bears previously have been identified as a team with interest in Allen. Chicago has cut Julius Peppers, but has signed LaMarr Houston.

Allen, who made $73 million in six years with the Vikings, could be in no rush to sign. Last year, John Abraham joined the Cardinals in July.

During two seasons playing with Brett Favre, Allen may have learned the value of showing up in the middle of August.

We cant meet his demands so I'll be curious to see how that works out

I'd take him on a 1 or 2 year deal(all guaranteed money in first year)

The team does need a proven guy IMO

:lol::lol::lol:

Man I don't know if he's confused or if he was speaking hypothetically. Either way....hell nah. As long as Witten still productive he got a spot on this team. And with all we've invested in his position even if he ain't got it no more we should be SET.......

I can't even believe he'd consider us.....Cowboys gonna have to restructure Carr at least to do that shit. They don't want too but they gonna have too.

And this Henry Melton shit is starting to make me nervous. I was under the impression coming off the ACL injury this dude was gonna play for a 1 year show and prove deal. They talking about a multi-year deal like this his last contract and he's trying to get paid.

Melton or not....I hope they realize they can do something real special with this line and don't pass up a Jernigan or Donald just because they give Melton money. That should ENCOURAGE them if anything. They could really be set on that defensive line. Well.....not set but at least have a strength on there.

They're saying they are looking at Weeden as a camp body. Since Romo isn't playing anytime soon and Orton's been talking retirement.

We could bring in Jason Campbell as a "camp body" and a competent backup...Weeden wouldn't beat out Mark Sanchez...Romo's having surgery on his back again??? I say we start looking for a REAL replacement for Romo and not anymore "Stephen McGees".

At DT, if they bring in Melton, we still have Crawford there if he can stay healthy, McClain is pretty good backup and we Donald...i'll be satisfied with that DT rotation...Donald's gonna be good so we can get by with Mincey at DE and whoever else they get off the street..also need to get a Middle LB because Lee's days are numbered with all the injuries...

I would imagine Jason Campbell would cost too much. He played well enough to get more than the minimum that I think Weeden should command.

Great job by @toddarcher being first to report that the Cowboys signed former Browns QB Brandon Weeden to a two-year deal.

I'm not trippin' on Weeden. A minimum deal at 2 million. Was just a 1st round pick two years ago. He's old but as long as they realize he's just a backup or camp body and doesn't mean they should pass up a QB in the draft this year or next than i'm good. Weeden sucked for the Browns but with no running game as a young qb....you're doomed.

For the first time in a while, I'm not worried about the running game...but they actually need to CALL running plays...lol..jury is still out on Randle, but tanner and dunbar are capable backups..dunbar just gotta hold on to the ball...:smh:

Tanner gone bro. UFA. Cowboys didn't re-sign him.

Well i'll say this. I'll get worried when Demarco gets hurt. Its gonna get ugly. That's if Randle doesn't get any better. I like Dunbar as a change of pace back though.

iT'S not a bad idea to go after a low cost QB. We have a QB coming off back surgery and another who is contemplating retirement. Despite what the posters have stated, this Dallas Offense, is the perfect offense to play. Good YOUNG receivers, good YOUNG offensive line, HOF Tight End, and a Huge TE who is developing, and a Running back who is plenty good when healthy. There are not too many teams with a more promising offense than the Dallas Cowboys.

edit*
Since coach Jason Garrett arrived in 2007, the Cowboys have carried veteran backup quarterbacks in Brad Johnson, Kitna and Orton. Weeden, 30, does not have the same experience, but joining the Cowboys would give him a chance to rebuild a career that took a big hit with the Browns.:lol::lol:

Orton is under contract through 2014 as part of a deal he signed in 2012.

The Cowboys believe Orton, 31, will continue to play in part because of a $3.25 million base salary and the fact he would have to repay the team $3 million of a $5 million signing bonus should he decide to retire.

so basically Weeden will be used primarly during the pre=season and hold the clipboard, not bad for $1.23 million over two years

I'm sure Jerry will draft a running back, hopefully he'll get a good one, but there are some serviceable free agent rb still out there :

Maurice Jones Drew
Michael Bush
Felix Jones
Tashard Choice
Brandon Jacobs

to name a few

Adam Schefter
Raiders giving former Packers WR James Jones a three-year deal.

Who are going to be the Panthers receivers.....

I see yall got Trindon Holliday, just to give you a heads up....he's a great returner, but he muffs the ball in the worst situations...

Decker took his spot as punt returner, the last 4 games of the regular season and the playoffs...

Wish we could of kept him,but I understand why Elway let him go...

That's ok.

It's a non guaranteed deal for camp competition. Coughlin benches you if you even look like you're about to muff or fumble a football
