2014 Free Agency Thread

You already know...when the Panthers lose a few games all eyes will be on Cam :smh:

Im not saying Sanders is bad, because he's not,but a middle linebacker is more important at the moment...Outside of Von and Trevanthan...we got players at the linebacker position that's old/slow or very inexperience...

For whatever reason,Del Rio won't let Nate Irving become the starting middle linebacker even though he's been making plays...I've been reading on the Broncos message board its probably due to him not being a vocal leader and Del Rio wants his middle linebacker's to be vocal

If Nate Irving isn't going to be vocal, they mind as well bring in Vilma or somebody who will

Awww shit.......

This free agency class has been week at middle linebacker and receiver specifically. That's something you have to address in the draft. Teams get middle linebackers and keep them. They don't allow them to go to free agency. Elway and co. doing it right. If you can shore up other positions do it. Y'all still got the draft. But when it comes to the middle linebacker spot.......you either getting slow guys or guys who are past their prime and slow like the Keith Brookings y'all signed two years ago......

Brandon LaFell, Patriots reach deal

The New England Patriots have reached agreement on a three-year deal with wide receiver Brandon LaFell, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

LaFell, who enters his fifth NFL season, played the last four with the Carolina Panthers. At 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, he is an inside/outside receiver who started all 16 regular-season games in 2013 and finished with a career-high 49 catches for 627 yards and five touchdowns.

Against the Patriots in 2013, LaFell had a season-high seven catches for 59 yards and a touchdown in the Panthers' 24- 20 win in Week 11

LaFell entered the NFL as a third-round draft choice of the Panthers in 2010 after playing for LSU.

He is the second wide receiver the Patriots reached agreement with on Saturday. The team also brought back Julian Edelman.

The Carolina exodus continues as the Panthers have lost receivers LaFell, Steve Smith (Baltimore Ravens) and Ted Ginn Jr. (Arizona Cardinals) in the first week of free agency.

Cam is going to be passing to himself. Like you used to do when you had nobody else to play with as a kid.

Yep Both of my teams Cowboys and Panthers are gonna be terrible next year...im thinking that this Gettleman may be intentionally doing this so if Cam plays poorly..he doesn't have to pay him...Marvin Mcnutt??? He's good but he's not a no. 1....

Don't know what to say about Dallas...Our entire defense needs to be retooled...from the coach on down...why is Kiffen still here? :smh:

My main two areas of concern:

1. Linebacker
2. Running Game/Offensive Line.

c/s

We might pick up a linebacker in the draft, would love to pick up Vilma or Harrison for leadership ...but having Ball and Hillman as our running backs worries me,both can't hold onto the ball....

I would love to have CJ as our running back...but Elway is confident in Hillman and Ball...

I also agree about the offensive line...

CBA gives Chiefs the ability to file grievance against Sanders, agent for bad-faith negotiations

Emmanuel Sanders deal draws executives crying foul

Emmanuel Sanders has agreed to terms on a three-year deal with the Broncos worth $15 million, but the process that led him there left the other teams involved fuming and crying foul. One team official claimed Sanders' agent broke "every rule in negotiations."

Agent Steve Weinberg, on behalf of the wide receiver, accepted a deal with the Chiefs in principle, according to one team source. Weinberg then engaged in negotiations with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to another source involved in the process.

While shopping the Chiefs' offer to the Bucs, Weinberg never explained that he had already accepted the terms of Kansas City's offer. Later in the night, Sanders' agent had agreed to terms with the Broncos, which is where he is currently headed. Sanders and Weinberg also rankled the 49ers by agreeing to visit, then blowing it off.

"This was one of the worst situations in modern footballnegotiations," one executive involved said. "Totally wrong. This needs to be stopped."

Reached at his home late Saturday, Weinberg declined to comment on the record when informed of the allegations.

The Dallas-based agent recently was reinstated by the NFL Players Association, which had barred and decertified him in 2003 because it had reportedly found he diverted assets to an offshore account during a dispute with a partner and collected a fee from a client prematurely. Weinberg later filed suit against the NFLPA and its top officials, alleging they illegally took away his certification for eight years, along with past, present and future income of clients.

Weinberg has two clients currently on NFL teams, not including Sanders. He had 42 before he was barred.

While Weinberg broke no laws in accepting a deal, the entire situation infuriated those he dealt with. It is commonly accepted in the league that once two sides agree to a deal -- in writing or in handshake form -- that's the end of the story. Instead, Weinberg's shopping the Chiefs deal and then not informing the Bucs that an agreement had been reached showed another side of the business. A Broncos source said the team had no knowledge of any prior agreements before it agreed to terms with Sanders.

"When a man gives you his words and pulls out," one executive said, "then gives another team your word and pulls out, then gives another team his word ... Not proper."

Kiffin is damn near gone. Its Maranelli's defense. Kiffen just around to appease Maranelli....I like Maranelli but he could've kicked rocks demanding I keep Kiffen around for anything. Just off principle.

That's fucked up. Negotiating a deal but still taking phone calls. Players aren't going to dislike the move, because he ended up with the best team.

He's going to put up good numbers in Decker's role.

I see Broadaus on Dallas Cowboys website trying to sell us on McClain...I can't take anything that website says seriously...

Maranelli can kicks rocks anyway

Nigga is too cocky thinkin he can always turn shit to sugar

He being too particular about the defensive lineman who we sign and have on out draft board

If Donald isn't there at 16 look for a trade down even if big boy from Florida State is there

That's how you get players blackballed though. Teams won't wanna fuck with his players in fear of being used as bait.

They already talking about they don't like Jernigan like they didn't like Floyd last year because he can only play the 1 and they think they can find a 1 DT in any round of the draft.

Donald falling too us would be too perfect. IT would prevent them from doing something stupid so I don't expect it. I expect Bears to draft him.

If its Rolando i'm down.

Man fuck that

Jernigan is a baller

He is a better prospect than Floyd

Everyone writing Floyd off but he backed up 2 dudes who would have started for us last year alongside Hatcher so he had to wait his turn

But back to Jernigan it would be dumb to pass on him if he is still there

We handing the keys to this dude he better get the defense right cuz really I'm not a fan of the Tampa 2 anyway

3-4 was fine we just refused to get a fucking nose tackle

Ok with a few days passed....all the moves made

Have any team surpass the Seahawks and 49ers as the best teams...

The Patriots and Broncs had some key additions but the other teams core is still I place, where these two core is what being replaced...

The NFL changes from year to year. Chiefs went from the worst team in the league to one of the best.

Part of it is that a lot of teams who are rebuilding have young guys who get simply better. Rams can potentially do that. There's a few teams out there who didn't make the post season last year but will make it this year.

Teams also fall off.

I think the league was wide open last year and I think its wide open this year too.

Seahawks and 9ers offenses are still not where their defenses are......

But its hard to imagine anyone fucking with the Seahawks if they continue to play the way they do at home.

I don't know if it was the 3-4 as much it was our defense but these dudes were tearing our damn defense up. Especially the Eagirls. Surprisingly that's the only damn team Kiffin could do anything against last year.

Sad thing is, if we were in the 3-4 we'd probably be in the same boat if not worse. All them guys are gone now that made that 3-4 except Sean Lee and Bruce Carter...

And i'm not against Jernigan. If they don't like him i'll at least give Maranelli that much because I do think he knows what he's doing on the defensive line. But I hope its because he believes he's not worth taking that high as opposed to he's not worth taking that high because you can get that caliber of player in later rounds.

I hope for their sake Donald falls to them. I could see it. I could also see a team shoring up their defensive line by taking a DT when they may be already deep at DT.

I think both offenses will catch up this year, especially ours.

and our defense is even better with all of the people who didn't play coming back.

we let whitner go and got bathea who's never played with a defense like ours..like whitner when he first arrived

people like tank carradine and dial are gonna come out of nowhere to go with dorsey and williams etc.

offensively let's see what we can do with a healthy squad at the wr position for once.. kap has played as many games with boldin as he has with crab.. just think about that for a minute.
and hopefully harvin can play so we can see what the seahawks offense will look like with a full compliment.

that's the crazy part. both these teams went 12-4 and 13-3 and weren't even relatively healthy last season. multiple injuries during the season multiple season ending injuries too. multiple acl's all that

i always feel you worry about your division 1st then worry bout everything else.

we play the nfc east this year so im looking forward to that.

as far as the patriots and the broncos go they still need linebackers ain't nobody trying to hear me now but if we fast forward and one of them makes it to the bowl against a team with a mobile qb it's curtains because they out there way too slow.

Now you get what I'm saying

Cuz if you think you can get a player like Jernigan in the 5th round or whatever then why wouldn't Jernigan himself be a 5th rounder?

Comments like that make no sense

Dudes get picked in the first round because teams have them slated as first round talent

Period point blank

Like I said shit changes from year to year so my opinion is based on what happened last year and what changes i've seen made in this offseason........for the 49ers I just see a lack of speed. Clearly not from Kap but from the other skilled positions like receiver and running back. I think that might be a minor setback but we haven't had the draft yet so there's that.

The Seahawks...hard to say anything bad about the Champs but Lynch is getting up there in age. Until proven otherwise, Harvin is injury prone and has migraines.

Y'all suffered from injuries but at the same time everyone does. Year in and out. We all sit here and say we and this player hurt and that player hurt. Guys are gonna get hurt again next year.

If I was forced to put money on it i'd assume the 9ers and Seahawks will be fighting for the NFC title again.....but we know the NFL rarely if EVER goes according to plans. The Bears or the Rams or Lions might fuck around and be contending next year.

I'll never forget the year we passed on Stephen Jackson for Julius Jones......its because Bill Parcells felt all of those running backs were of all the same value so they can trade down and get another pick. He was a genius for like a good 4 months for that until it became quite evident what Julius Jones was and what Stephen Jackson would become.

That's my whole beef with that trade down shit. Trade down and get the guy you want. That's fine. But don't tell me you trading down because they are of all the same caliber type shit. Hell no.

But that's the point. we suffered like everyone else but it ain't kill us and i mean we saying seahawks and 49ers. so yes everyone is injured but with those injuries it didn't make us trash like it did for other squads.

lack of speed at the wr position yes but we're slated to address that immediately in the draft.

rb position we have speed they just dont play. hunter is 4.3. lamichael james is 4.3 they jut don't get on the field. we're actually a very fast team aside from starting wideout. if we get a speed guy in the draft its overkill because then vernon doesn't have to be that guy. we need the big guys strong guys not intimidated guys because of the defenses and corners we have in our division.. so sacrificing a little speed in order to deal with physical play that will never be called i'll take that.

as i always say, if we remain focused humble and hungry we'll be better than fine

i just can't wait till the draft. im loving our secondary right now that shit is going to be STOUT to go with the front 7.

i think we need to add some oline depth and obviously we're getting a real young talented wr not a reach.

I agree. I guess in regards to the back I gotta see what y'all do with Gore's carries. I know LaMichael got speed but like you said he can't get on the field. Vernon if he loses a step is still faster than most guys in the league. Like I said, y'all gonna be alright. My questions as a outsider is that offense. Kap probably will get better and his chemistry with his wideouts could get better. Just never know.

The Chiefs wasn't that bad though, they basically had the same team last year...The only thing that really changed was the quarterback...on top of that they had 7 Pro Bowlers on that squad...

Jared Allen spent today in Seattle visiting with the #Seahawks, source said. It was his first free agent visit. He’s now back at home.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Browns are "lurking" in the bidding for free agent Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.
In Cleveland, DRC could team with Joe Haden to give new coach Mike Pettine one of the league's most talented cornerback tandems. Rodgers-Cromartie will be in New York until Monday, where he's been meeting with the Jets and Giants. Rapoport suggested on Twitter Sunday that the holdup in talks with the Jets is whether owner Woody Johnson will be willing to pony up enough money.

With how the team is today, I won't mind seeing Jason Witten get traded to NE if we can shave off a lot of draft picks out of them

Lets say the pats wanna give us a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and next years 5th.

I'm doing that in a heartbeat.

NE has a lot of draft picks. Might be the best time to work that shit.
