Rockets Waive Brooks, Delfino; Looking For Trade Of Robinson For Additional Space
Jun 30, 2013 2:09 PM EDT

The Houston Rockets have waived Aaron Brooks and Carlos Delfino.

The Rockets were unable to find a trading partner to deal other player and were forced to waive them to clear cap space.

The Rockets are pursuing Dwight Howard and need to offer a max contract.

Houston is also looking to unload Thomas Robinson to clear addition space.

Durant seems like a "loyal" minded player...as long as OKC keeps winning and pay him his worth I think he'll stay

No doubt about the loyalty bout there is now way that OKC to pay Durant, Westbrook & Ibaka all the money they deserve

They'll let ibaka walk/trade westbrook before they lose durant

 Exactly. If it comes down to money they not gonna say "Uhh yea let's get rid of Durant and keep Westbrook and Ibaka....". They'd get rid of every player on the team at the same time before they get rid of Durant. They got a top 3 player on and off the field....doesn't cause problems and he sells the shit out of merchandise....

How in the Hell did he get that kind of contract? :smh::lol:

What did he show that he should be making 8.5 million at any point in his career?

Rockets will give free agent Howard a full-court press
Jonathan Feigen 06/29/2013 2:13 PM

After two years trying to land Dwight Howard to be the next in line of their franchise centers, the Rockets will sit down Sunday night for Dinner with Dwight.

The Rockets contingent, according to a person with knowledge of the meeting, will meet with Howard as soon as NBA rules allow, joining him and his representatives for dinner in Los Angeles, where the Rockets will hope to do more than make their case about their potential to compete for titles if he joins them.

That will be a major part of their pitch, perhaps the point they will emphasize. Rockets officials declined to comment about their plans, but they are expected to not only outline how Howard would be used but also how the team could grow, citing everything from their full collection of salary-cap exceptions and first-round draft picks in the coming years but also the young, talented assets who will improve or could be turned into veteran pieces.

Along with coach Kevin McHale and general manager Daryl Morey, they will bring Hakeem Olajuwon, who has worked with Howard in the offseason, to make their case, along with fellow Hall of Famer Clyde Drexler. Chandler Parsons and James Harden, who over the years have developed friendships with Howard, will be there. Rockets owner Leslie Alexander, president Tad Brown and executive vice president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas will take part.

The Rockets will make a pitch that will cover the potential of the team with Howard and describe how he would be used in an offense retooled around his strengths and McHale’s taste for inside play lacking on the Rockets’ roster in McHale’s two seasons.

There will be discussions about how McHale would work on Howard’s game.

But with the points they hope to make, they plan to keep the occasion as informal and easy as possible, calling it a chance to get to know one another. They will do that with the hope Howard, 27, will agree that of the teams he is considering, they are the best-equipped franchise to compete for a title.

Parsons has his ear

Parsons, who speaks often with Howard, said Howard often has described competing for championships to be his primary goal when selecting his next team, a sentiment Howard has expressed as well.

“This is my chance to choose my own destiny instead of letting someone else choose it,” Howard told the Orange County Register. “So I’m going to really sit down and think about what is best for me as far as basketball and what is going to make me happy.

“I will sit down with these teams and hear what they have to say, see if their plans and my plans fit and go with the best option that will help my game expand, and get to where I want to get to. “There’s nothing one team can say to sway me away from another team. It’s just going to be what’s best for me basketball-wise. That’s how I’m going to approach it.”

‘Great guys’

The Rockets will try to convince him they are best for him “basketball-wise.” But Parsons said he also has emphasized the atmosphere and chemistry with the team.

“We have great guys,” Parsons said. “We don’t have any egos. We don’t have any cocky, arrogant guys. We have guys with the same mindset and same attitude. We genuinely all like each other and enjoy playing together.

“All of us text back and forth pretty much every day. Whether it’s us joking around or us talking about what we’re doing to get better or trying to get together in the same city for group workouts, we’re always looking for ways to get better and stay in touch and keep that relationship most teams don’t have. We’re all friends. We’re all thinking about each other.”

Beyond that, he said they are ready to win, and particularly to win if Howard joins them, listing among other things similarities to Howard’s Finals team in Orlando, with the added benefit of a second top All-Star in Harden.

“We have a great coach that is a Hall-of-Fame center that he can work with every single day,” Parsons said. “We have me and James who are really good wings. Put him in pick-and-roll, make him roll hard and they can’t double because we’re out there. Jeremy (Lin) can push the ball and control our offense. You have Omer (Asik), who is like (Marcin) Gortat you had in Orlando, a really good center. You guys can push each other in practice every day.

“If you look at our roster and Orlando, you have him, you have Omer as Gortat, you have me as (Hedo) Turkoglu. We have a lot of pieces similar to that that can be successful. And we have the best shooting guard in the NBA.”

Team built for Howard

Somewhere between appetizers and steaks, the Rockets hope Howard will come to feel the same way, having long shaped their roster for the pursuit of a max-contract free agent, targeting Howard and bringing in Harden to lure him.

That has long been a theme of their plans, with Morey even changing the line on his Twitter account to a simple message: “Great players understand that you need to play with other great players to win the title.”

sign and trade?

who they moving Gasol?

If they add Smith that might make Dwight stay

Just a rumor I read somewhere that is why I said I heard. I like you would be interested to see how the particulars will work out if this was substantial. I was thinking Josh Smith would be Plan B if Howard does leave.

kobe to help woo dwight howard

by ramona shelburne
espnlosangeles.com

kobe bryant and steve nash will be a part of the lakers' pitch to free agent center dwight howard on tuesday, league sources told espn on sunday.

The lakers are still finalizing the roster of people who will be a part of their pitch -- several lakers luminaries have offered -- but the two future hall of famers will definitely be a part of the delegation that will have the last word with howard before he makes his decision.

One person who will not be there is former coach phil jackson, who left for his summer home in montana on sunday, according to sources.

Jackson though, delivered a message to howard via twitter before he hit the road.

"i'm going up to the country going to paint my mailbox blue," jackson tweeted to howard, referencing the lyrics from an old taj mahal song. "while i'm there i expect to see you get on board tis ur place."

"i do see him and when i see him, we've worked together since 1999," lakers general manager mitch kupchak said of jackson, earlier this week. "we have a friendship and a business relationship and we don't talk too much about zen, but we talk a lot about basketball.

"so, when i do see him, that's what we talk about. I'll talk about his hip or his knee because we've both had a hip or a knee operation, but other than that it's basketball. He's got a good basketball mind and he's interested, so we talk basketball."

one source with knowledge of the situation told espn that jackson has become somewhat of an unofficial consultant to the lakers, by virtue of his relationship with jeanie buss and loyalty to the franchise where he won five nba titles.

It's more that jackson is available to give advice or whatever the franchise needs, one source said. And it's far less awkward than is publicly assumed as the family has been meeting regularly since the death of former owner dr. Jerry buss in february, another source said.

"he's been helpful to this franchise since 1999 and even in the last year or two," kupchak said. "when i see him, it's nice to sit down and talk basketball. Renew our friendship and talk. So, i think that is helpful."

howard also plans to meet with the houston rockets, atlanta hawks, golden state warriors and dallas mavericks. He is scheduled to have dinner sunday night shortly after 12:01 a.m. Et with a rockets contingent that includes hakeem olajuwon, james harden, kevin mchale, chandler parsons and owner les alexander.

Bryant went through a very similar process as howard in 2004, when he entertained the idea of leaving the lakers as a free agent. In the words of one source, he came "very" close to leaving for the rival clippers until a face-to-face meeting with jerry buss convinced him to stay.

The pitch buss gave to bryant then is similar to what the franchise will tell howard now, sources said. Simply, that the lakers remain committed to winning championships, and will do what's necessary to give the team a chance to contend every season.

"kobe visited with teams and more than one team," kupchak said thursday, after the nba draft. "we were on pins and needles. The city, we had just gotten beaten [in the finals], phil [jackson] left for the first time and we traded shaquille.

"there was a lot of uncertainty on what kobe would do, a lot of rumor very similar to what's going on right now. When the phone call came in, we didn't know which way it would go. I would say it's very similar."

kupchak said he felt that if howard did decide to stay with the lakers, fans would quickly embrace him and the resolution of all the uncertainty that's been hanging around for three years would help give him peace.

"there was a period where kobe was earning his stripes in los angeles," kupchak said. "here it is, seven, eight or nine years later and i think that's what would happen with dwight once he puts his roots down and says 'this is the place i want to be.'

"i think that's part of the problem. I think the city feels they were renting him for a year. But the reality is he couldn't sign an extension. Financially, the rules provide that he wait until july 1 to get the best deal he could possibly get. It was one of those situations where please tell us you want to be here and please show us you want to be here. But he can't do it until july 1. I think that's part of it. Of course the way the season went didn't help things either."

information from espn.com's jeff goodman and dave mcmenamin of espnlosangeles.com was used in this report.
why are the lakers going to desperate measures to keep an unproven loser who ruined their team and acts like a female dog?

LaMarcus Aldridge: 'I Haven't Demanded Trade' From Blazers
Jun 30, 2013 12:31 AM EDT

LaMarcus Aldridge claimed on Saturday that he has not requested a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers.

“I haven’t demanded a trade,” Aldridge said in an e-mail.

It had been previously reported that Aldridge would welcome a trade out of the Blazers, had not renewed his sponsorships in Portland, and believed the city was too small.

“I’m looking forward to who we sign in free agency to make us better,” Aldridge said in the e-mail.

Aldridge is considered a key player in the Blazers' rebuilding effort.
