Okay maybe that is why he chose a different school. For economic reasons. College debt can be a crippler
i'm currently taking that at uw-milwaukee at 48.pre-algebra at 4 is nice though.![]()
Im sure him being a minority is worthy of a grant from harvard. A school like stanford wouldve been great for the youngster. then again he's smarter than me so my assessment might be off.
Not Knocking Homies Choice Or FAMU ... But damn.... FAMU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Props to the young man, but this press release is shamefully written. When did the University of Alabama and Penn State become "Ivy League institutions"? And nearly a quarter of the students who get accepted to Harvard turn them down for other offers; the yield (accepted students who enroll) at Penn State is only 28%.

I would venture to guess that most children who grew up with two parents who are both educators and had a SAT prep coach for multiple years and was raised in an environment with multiple generations of HBCU college graduates will have a focused college plan.
The only thing the article says about the young man is he had was 16 and a high SAT score. I just hope his parents let him be a kid and that he does more than study, because the pressure to live up to parental expectations can sometimes be overwhelming.
Again no less than the ultimate props to this young man... but (thankfully!) this isn't really "news". An overwhelming MAJORITY of students who accept a full ride scholarship to an HBCU probably turned down at least one Ivy League acceptance. And that's a GOOD thing!![]()
“When I first told her, she was excited,” said Jones, a mechanical engineering student.
Good for young dude.
Univ. of Alabama is Ivy League? Didn't know that.
I know, right? Harvard's the only one I saw.

dude take your ass to harvard and don't leave until you have your masters degree and your set for life
I wish I could go to harvard
why
you have better opportunities when you go to the best schools

FAMU over Harvard eh?
I'm all for HBCU's and all being a graduate of one, but fuck, anyone who says that the education at FAMU is on par with one of the world's leading institutions may be deluding themselves. There is a whole host of opportunities and options that present themselves when you have that name behind you, let alone being a successful graduate of the place. He is an overachiever no doubt, and he will continue to be one no matter where he goes, but given the choice, I'd rather overachieve at Harvard, than overachieve at FAMU.
You an tell who went to college in this thread.
Harvard= mech eng? Really?
Come on, it is the programs that make the school.
Next you are going to want to go to MIT for literature.......

That's the simple truth ....![]()
He wants to study mechanical engineering. I *guarantee* you FAMU has a better mechanical engineering program than Harvard.
This may be true, but if it came down to an employer choosing a person for a position and it's between a FAMU grad and a Harvard grad, who do you think will get the greater consideration? *Guarantee* you, that hiring manager will stop reading the resume when he sees Harvard University, and use the FAMU resume for basketball practice.

All the kid has to do is show him the news article, he's never going to need a resume for anything for anyone.
If you honestly think an employer looking for a mechanical engineer would prefer to hire a Harvard graduate with a liberal arts degree and no STEM classes, then you are too whitewashed/brainwashed to even engage in an intelligent discussion with. He should have gone to Harvard though I do not think there is Engineering there. But he could also have gone to MIT where he would have got his bills paid. With that logo of MIT/Harvard/Princeton on his resume, the sky would have been easier to access for him...
What gave you the idea that was the premise of what I was trying to say? Nigga no one in this thread except you would think that someone with a liberal arts degree would apply for a position in the m.e field. What? You think Harvard doesn't have any of the Engineering Sciences????
