► Triple headkick KO - and plenty of other assorted kicks, knees, KOs & people generally getting fuuuuuucked up

Agreed. Invest his time and focus into training and coaching. He's got a world of experience, and no point taking additional damage later in your career.

To this day ... this is still one of the best title fights of all-time.

WEC 53 - December 2010

Last fight on the last card of WEC's existence (great organization for the lighter weight classes). A number of their stars moved over to the UFC afterward ... Henderson, Cerrone, Faber, Aldo, Stann, Swanson, Brown, etc

Man, I hated that fight and Anthony's cheap-ass Matrix kick in the end; I was team Benson & that Trinity/Matrix kick swayed the judges. Yeah, and as for the WEC, that's what I meant by Benson 'broke ground,' he helped to grow the UFC even more with the shutting down of the WEC. Lol....that's when I started watching the UFC.

All of the martial arts were on display in that fight. I was amazed by their cardio, and to pull off that once in a lifetime kick in the final minute of a 25-min title fight. Crazy.

Thanks for the clarification on 'broke ground' with the end of WEC & you're following the UFC thereafter.

I never thought about it until now, but the ending of the WEC and Benson Henderson leaving for the UFC was how I became interested in the UFC.

We caught a little bit of it back in the day ... VHS tapes from the video store or buying them from Music World. The 90s events. Downloading old UFC and Pride fights on Bearshare / Kazaa ... TUF in the mid-2000s. Really started to take notice again when GSP was reppin' for Canada. TSN (Canadian network) carried a decent number of the WEC events from around WEC 33 or 34 - 53) ... was able to get familiar with the likes of Aldo, Henderson, Cerrone, Faber, Pettis, Benavidez, Cruz).

One of our fave fighters to watch in the WEC days was Miguel Torres. Great entrance music.

Yeah, I remember you were into it wayyyyy before I was, ....if the UFC would have been early Bitcoin then you would be a rich man right now.

I've never heard of him, he looked like a junior in high school, real young looking but deadly.

He was really legit for a number of years, but the final number of years in his career was a mixture of wins and losses. He got released from his UFC contract after posting an offensive tweet. Bounced around between organizations after that.

If you have time - watch the fight vs. Yoshiro Maeda below. It's from 2008 and we were sold on his fighting skills after that ... and went back to watch other fights of his. Great scrap with Maeda ... I am gonna rewatch it later, lol. Former UFC heavyweight Frank Mir doing color commentary on the fight. He was always a big fan of Torres' skills ...

Hey, thanks for the fights, I appreciate them.

and

as for his banishment:

Torres' release came after he posted a comment on his Twitter account that UFC deemed offensive.

"If a rape van was called a surprise van more women wouldn't mind going for rides in them," SI.com quoted Torres as saying.

Dayummmmm, what was he thinking? Had he lost touch with reality? WTF!!! He canceled himself before the ME-TOO movement, he was a pioneer in ME-TOO. He pre-ME-TOO'd himself.

You're welcome. Reminds me I need to go back and stream / download a bunch of WEC cards one day. I missed about 30 of their 53 events, lol. Great promotion.

Yeah ... don't know what he was thinking posting that. A truly WTF error in judgment.

I know a few other fighters got in trouble or were warned for other comments directed towards gay / transgender communities. There was some controversy for awhile as a transgender fighter was competing in a smaller promotion, etc.

Yeah, brawn doesn't always win the day, brains will allow a person to maneuver themselves out of a situation in which the brawn had entrapped them.

I recorded the main card and was skimming it over last night before heading out.

Saw that kick like daaaamn. So casual about it too. Pretty much as good as Edson Barboza posterizing Terry Etim back in the early-2010s!
Agree. Spinning heel hook kicks are impressive looking but man, the force generated behind them.

Right. It looks like this one connected with his temple.

Reminds me of my soccer days, etc. You knew when you connected well with the ball on a shot or corner kick. You hardly felt a thing. Clean, crisp.

When you mistimed a kick you felt it, haha.

Hitting a walk-off kick KO must be crazy. Like kicking “through” a target and not even feeling it.
