►►► OFFICIAL UFC 156 ~ Aldo / Edgar title fight ~ Saturday, Feb. 2nd - VEGAS

Dana White loves Edgar. Seems like they have a personal friendship. If you look at some of Dana White's VLOGS, they are always talking like they are the best of friends.
I'm guessing that's why he gets a lot of title shots and instant rematches.
They're trying to make Edgar the Micky Ward of UFC.
Another thing with Edgar that a lot of people respect (including the UFC brass) is that he's a blue collar muthafucka. If I remember correctly, he tried his hand at being a plumber like his father or stepfather in the past. He's durable as fuck with mad cardio. The major comebacks against Maynard (draw & victory) in 2 of their 3 fights. The fact that their trilogy over the years reads as follows for Edgar - Loss / Draw / Victory (showing his resiliency) and other fighters noting on radio shows & tv broadcasts like UFC Connected and others that they consider him one of the P4P best. That he was hardly cutting any weight to reach 155, and even cutting down to 145lbs went smoothly (and still many of the guys there are going to be NATURALLY bigger than him). GSP was asked in 2012 and he noted Edgar amidst Aldo, Jones, Silva, and so on.

* For those who aren't familiar with some of his earlier fights ... check the ones leading up to his title fight with Penn in 2010. My personal fave is EDGAR - GRIFFIN from 2007.

Big fan of both Aldo & Edgar. Aldo def' won that fight. He needs to shore up that cardio though. He had a hell of a time with it in April 2011 against Hominick, and also went 25 mins with Kenny Florian. He might benefit from cutting down some of his muscle mass too (not sure of what he cuts down from to reach 145).

Frankie beat a far past his prime BJ Penn (by decision), had a trilogy with Gray Maynard that's tied 1-1-1, lost to Ben Henderson twice, and just got laid flat with leg kicks and an off the fence superman punch from a post serious motorcycle accident {smaller) Aldo. What part of that sounds remotely like he belongs in the same sentence as Spider, GSP, Jones or Aldo? :dunno:

Some good quotes from Bigfoot at the start of the post-fight presser. Listen for the Anthony Pettis mention after the 12:00 mark. That would be something (considering he's already waiting for the damn 155 match-up later in the year).

If they have a rematch I wonder if Edgar would do better. Edgar was probably his toughest opponent.

Edgar would be unstoppable in his divisions if he had power. You cant teach that. All his fights will generally come down to decisions in which he cant win in close fight.

True. That 2nd uppercut fucked A.O. up. He was still upright due to his positioning. Very good in-close accuracy from The Chin.
You could tell he was only still standing because his body seized up. I'm surprised Herb Dean let him take that many clean power shots... not that he didn't deserve it. The HW division is fucked up now for a marketable title match up. JDS should start barking to break the tie with Cain since they're 1-1.

That loss fucked the whole division up. Your right JDS and Cain is the only good fight they could make.

Dana also said DC vs Cain is still on the table but I don't think they gonna fight eachother.

DC threw a monkey wrench in that shit with the quickness. He's now cutting weight to face Jon Jones--which I think is a mistake.

True. Cain and DC being true training partners at AKA makes things difficult. As most people see it ... Cain/JDS will probably face off 5 or so times before their respective careers are done. They're such elite heavyweights. Such a contrast in fights too. 1 minute in Nov. 2011. Cain is KO'd. 25 minutes in December 2012. JDS gets his ass kicked for the better part of the entire fight.

They would definitely have to throw plenty of money at both, as they're such good friends, let alone training partners. People see it the same way with GSP-Macdonald. Is Georges gonna ever face Rory? Or will ONE of them eventually move up to 185? Or is GSP just biding his time before a potential superfight with Silva? Many saying they think that IF Georges ever moved up to 185, that would be for good, and IF he ever beat Silva ... he could probably retire on that one having faced THE GOAT himself in A.S. (and actually somehow prevailed).

True indeed. DC carries his body weight well (and has legit cardio) for a short stature heavyweight. That would be quite the cut too as he's typically in that 235 - 250 range. Not sure what he's at months out from a fight. But damn ... he had a hell of a time back in his Olympic days cutting down to the low-200s when his body shut down on him. That's some major physiological stress on one's self (and that was years ago). Now he's in his mid-30s. Tough to drop that much weight, but it would be something else to see him cut down (somehow) to the low-200s. Just concerned for the cat's health short-term and long-term.

I think JDS's win is now being chalked up as a fluke punch against a not 100% Cain, whereas Cain beat the dog shit out of JDS for 25 minutes. The tie goes to Cain. It's JDS who has the most to prove in a trilogy. I don't know what his people aren't howling for a 3rd match up, but this Overeem humiliation is a great opportunity for him. and he better hurry before Dana tries to book a super fight with Jone Jones v Cain... which he's already planted seeds for.

I hate the buddy system in MMA. There's NO reason two professional fighters shouldn't be willing/able to fight each other and remain friends after the fight. Suppose the Ravens and 49ers refused to play each other, because their coaches are brothers? What if the Manning brothers refused to play against each other. The Clitoris brother have heavy weight boxing fucked up the same way. When champions refuse to fight the top contender because their friends, they should be forced to relinquish their belt, so to ensure the best match ups are made and the title doesn't grow stagnant.

His body isn't rock solid, so he seems to have enough unessential mass to make the cut... but he'd be drained. Jones is to long, strong, agile and wily for DC. And, quite frankly, I don't think DC would beat Cain if the faced off anyway. Either way, DC's UFC will hit a wall at some point if he doesn't knock off that good guy shit.

The card was pretty good, i'm glad that we are seeing the last of rashad, maybe a sonnen vs rashad will be the ultimate mouth off.

I was very impress by the way damian handle fitch all night long, he school him in grappling, not question about it.

Dana will continue shoving edgar, sonnen, diaz, st. pierre and so on, down our throat wheater we like it or not ( it's just a business decision :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:)

Frankies my dude and all, but it feels like Aldo let him off the hook a bit. That is starting to feel like a pattern for Aldo which is concerning me. Frankie caught his leg kick a few times and it seems Aldo abandoned the leg kick from then on. This has rematch written all over it...:(

Rashad disappoints me once again. He fights hesitant far too often, normally he can pull out the win regardless. But it caught up with him this time.

I was surprised that Rashad got beat by him. Both Rashad and Quinton have been doing bad lately. They need to hang it up, at least Quinton should. The old Quinton and Rashad are gone. They both got beat by lames.

Nah dude is fighting at heavyweight because he has trouble cutting weight. That's what keep him out of the 08 Olympics.

That's why I think he would have problems with Jones at 205 but, would beat Jones at HW.

I Just hope DC and Cain don't become the next Jones and Evans.

Interesting to hear this week about Anthony Johnson moving up to heavyweight to face Andrei Arlovski in one of the smaller organizations. Johnson's weight has bounced around so much over the years. He has fought at 170, 185, 205, and now HW (which can be anything 206/207 over, but which most guys do best at around 220 - 250).
