‘I’m young, Black and not all that impressed with Barack Obama’ | Opinion

To the young'uns who harshly and unfairly criticize Obama based upon their myopic view of the real world I say, "Idealism is great, but pragmaticism has proven more effective in getting things things accomplished in the face of fierce conservative opposition and obstruction from those in both political parties.

Case in point and by example,, Obama idealistically wanted single payer health care; but pragmatically had to engineer the Affordable Care Act through an obstructionist Congress and the result was 20 million people getting health care for the first time. So in short the idealism of youth is necessary and great but the pragmaticism of the experienced gets things done. :hmm:

Obama a realist and the young crowd don't wanna hear it. He know how shit work and how the country work and you not gonna defund teh police and you not gonna get anywhere promoting socialism when these dumb hillbillies don't know what it is. How short memories we have...08 was fucked up and he came into a mess and didn't hide his blackness. He was the president of everybody, not just black people. Everybody don't agree with the author of the article.

Then what's the point of fighting the system if it won't change? It's just a hustle white liberals use to line their pockets...

If Obama is a realist what's the answer to police brutality, racial equality?

Pull up ya pants? Go to school? Don''t act ignorant?

Keeping it 100, the article was dumb. One black man can’t change 400 years of oppression by himself.

He also can’t just create laws when he has to convince White people in congress that their even is a problem. If more of us were in politics I could see holding him more accountable

But in his situation, playing the long game is about all the options you have available

My daughter is 20. She was in fucking elementary school when he was President. If she wrote something like this I would challenge her to study the Bush/Cheney years then write a piece on what 8 years of McCain/Palin would have been. Or just write about how the crazy shit we deal with now with Trump was birthed by Obama running. Or better yet the hypocrisy of white voters feelings/opinions of experience during that race vs. Trump's. Easy to talk shit when Twitter is your entire world.

Good editorial.

It's how the young man sees things.

There was not much in his writing that I disagreed with.

Former President Barack Obama, being a human being, is good in some ways and not great in other ways.

His voice is relevant.

He speaks wisdom and at other times he missteps.

Nothing wrong in commenting on either of those things.

Damn why be president then?

to be fair, he is still injecting himself into current political discussions.

He has a right to, as a former President. But he has been responsible and restrained, not saying anything until recently despite Trump repeatedly blaming him for all of Trump’s fuckups.

First, I dont listen to 20 year olds about much of anything.

But i read the article with an open mind.

And it was a waste of my time.

He thinks raising the minimum wage is socialism? And that socialism is as popular as capitalism within his demographic?

What?

Yeah he entitled to his opinion but right now Im thinking its someone else's opinion that he's regurgitating.
of course , the rightwing wannabe "think dfferent naggaz" will jump on this, cos hes a young blackman who says something out left field that might could be painted as a dig at Obama(who really isnt the target of the piece , if u really know why a 20yr old's voice is even relevant in this discussion, ) same reason CJ Pearson wad elevated by the rightwing! this kid will get views n we know why

With unlimited resources he still managed to raise 1 swirler and 1 hoodrat. :smh:

got no problems with somebody having issues with Pres. Obama or not being impressed with his 8 years in office. He's a politician and politicians disappoint.
It was Obama/Biden vs Mccain/Palin and Obama/Biden vs Romney/Ryan though. In both cases his ticket was the better choice (seemed so at the time, and years after, still feel the same way).

He got some things done, and he didn't do some things that you, I and that guy over there would have liked (and in some cases he did some things that you, I and that guy over there didn't like). ...but like jackie Robinson, he managed to stay clean and not fuck up while he was in there, so it will go down in history that our first black POTUS was the cleanest president in recent history. I'll take it.

....and I'm also up for new candidates who can do more/better. Bring them forth, let them be heard and let's see what they can do. Warning though... they will also disappoint to some extent. We'll likely get baby steps. To get things done while in office, they have to get into office, and to get into office, you gotta play politics.

The part about socialism and him saying it's a loaded term... shit, that's absolutely true, regardless of how young progressives feel about it. Anybody who says it's not is a dreamer. Doesn't mean socialism is bad, but politically it can bite you. Similarly, when he was running for his first term, he laughed off a question about legalizing weed, and I was very disappointed in him for that. ...but at the time he knew that it was a bit of a land mine. 12 years later, not so much.
people just wanna be contrarian for its sake, yet never put up nothing but their "opinions" and also dont like 2 face the harsh realities of dirty politics, same folks who expected Barack to be MalcomX2.0

He’s young Black and don’t know what the fuck he’s talking about . Miserable broke niggas who wanted Obama to save them look for these anti Obama articles to feel better about being failures. Misery loves company. Obama wasn’t a king stop crying like hoes. The writer of this article was a fucking child when Obama was president he might as well talk about Abraham Lincoln or some shit

Why this article now?
Because it is designed to create a negative feeling about Obama and thereby indirectly creating a negative feeling about the democratic party because the Georgia election is around the corner.
Standard tactic:
Plant seeds of negativity and hope they spread.
They did the same shit with Hilary Clinton and still do.

In the meantime, the traitor-in-chief contemplates using martial law to confiscate the voting machines from the elections.

I'm no Obama fan, but fuck off with this.
CLOCKWORK !!!

Obama also showed how out-of-touch he is with young progressives in a Dec. 2 Snapchat interview. “Socialism is still a loaded term for some folks,” he clucked. “We should focus on talking about getting certain things done.

They are stuck on the word "socialism' instead of trying to implement the effects of socialism by other names( u gotta have muitiple ways to skin a cat! ,

if we "defund the police by any other name" do we get the same desired results or not ?
some ppl r only interested in pyrrhic victories !

Sounds about right. If you measure Obama's success by black progress, he's no different than any other benign neglect cracka that has occupied the oval office. If you measure his success by American progress, he's been one of the best presidents in my lifetime. There's no need to break out into debates and a lot of back and forth about Barack Obama. He was a typical liberal politician but by no measure was he a hero or savior for black people. Depending on what you value, that either impresses you or disappoints you.

Nice Drop Fam. Well stated.

Call me narrow-minded but I don't take any black person with a sense of entitlement judging Obama.
Not only did he achieve the seemingly impossible, but his influence also helped tear down discrimination in
countries he's never traveled to. Bottom line, the man is a politician aware of his color.

If you thought he could singularly raise his own in the vein of MLK and Malcolm X while leading a first world nation,
I appreciate your vote. Whatever he couldn't accomplish, take note, and fix it yourself.
dat nyukah aint walk on water! fuck him! :roflmao:

He should now do an op-ed on all of the legislation progressives have passed and all of their accomplishments. Also white leftists routinely tell black people that class is the real problem in america, racism isn't.
he cant touch that !he wasnt "paid" to write that !

instead of whining about what Obama didn't do take your black ass into politics and see if you can fucking do better. Because since Obama nobody can ever say again that 'Merica will never elect a Black President because 'Merica did. So if nothing else that door is open. You can sit on the sideline talking shit or get in the game and attempt to go through. If not shut the fuck up. Enough of these Internet Paper Mache Revolutionaries.
dime a dozen !

There are words here. My apologies.

We've had other pro-Black candidates attempt to run for the office of President, and the main thing that got them ignored by the power structure/ mindset of this capitalist, racist, white, male, wealthy, plutocratic oligarchy that is (currently) our country is that they ran as pro-Black. I was a teenager in the early 90's, and although I didn't run around quoting Tupac, one of his lyrics stuck with me: "America ain't ready to see a Black president." America still wasn't ready when Barack won, and Trump is evidence of that. The criticism that Obama didn't do enough as a Black president to push Black priorities says that we were hoping for him to champion culturally specific causes that would have been utterly railroaded by the wealthy white men surrounding him on all sides. If he had prioritized Black communities over all else, he would have easily been a one-term president because, as a country, we are still struggling to move past this obstacle.

Comparing his open support of the LGBTQ community compared to what we believe is silence toward the Black community is an understandable frustration until we remember that many (I personally believe the majority) of the white men in power all share the practices of at least two or three of those letters when the cameras are off and the meetings are over. More of them were/are leaders in the fields of politics, corporate America, and entertainment, so it makes sense to protect his office (and secure that second term) by forwarding that particular cause. Honestly, the color of his skin is what scared America the most, and, as a bonus, he was able to keep himself and his family squeaky clean while doing the things that a moderate white Democratic president would do (and speak intelligently along the way).

Obama understood that he might be threatened with impeachment over a tan suit while someone like Trump would allowed to continue supporting foreign interference, practicing abuse of power, instigating racism, and on and on and on. Is Obama perfect? No. But, he also understood that he would have to manage a country full of people that hated him and his family without giving them a reason to remove him from office (or from this plane of existence). He did so, and the fact that he did so with a brown face left racist whites with enough cognitive dissonance to elect Trump and help create our current situation. Every day he was alive as President, he worked to unravel deeply embedded racism in some, and helped others to see beyond what they were taught to believe about themselves as Black Americans. However, to all the people criticizing him for "not doing enough for Black people," I say this:

Do better.

If you read all of this, thank you.
:cheers::cheers: simple!

He was quiet for a while even while his name was brought up. You didn't hear from him when Trump blamed the handling of the corona virus on him. When you think about it he was silent till he could do the most damage to Trump, #ElectionTime.

My thing is these young folk need to shut the fuck up with all the complaining. If you don't like what you're hearing or how people are doing things. Then build your base and takeover. Nobody is going to hand over power. Take your theories and put them into practice.

It’s easier to be a bitch and complain than mobilize and try to change what you don’t like. He would then see how difficult it is to get shit done that you want in politics instead of sounding like a moronic idiot

Obama had to walk on water , sign off on reparations single handedly and make a law that says cops can't specifically shoot black people

The number 1 rule of debates is when they attack you (ad hominem) and not your argument, then the attacker has LOST.
End of debate.
:itsawrap:
He’s 8 years away from how old MLK was from leading the greatest movement of all time.

imagine if senior woulda told Martin to shut the fucc up and dribble when he was tryna learn the Bible and the scripture and talk about the injustice our people have been suffering.
