Straight up. Used the people to get out of a deal HE made-- talmbout "I didn't ask them for nothing, I asked YALL"

Lol like they didn't hear it.

And how was that looks g enough time for them to tell?

Man, somebody just decided to pay him, and HE is richer from it. How is he gonna pay "the people " back? Free shows? Nope.

A millionaire gets richer , and "the people" feel like they did something. Y not watching some shit we weren't gonna watch anyway.

Yeah he played his fans. To find out Dave never once approached Comedy Central about negotiating his contract was wild. To get on TV and bad mouth these people when you have never approached them was wrong.

Like always, poor people always feel sorry for the rich. He used them to get out of a deal he signed but will charge them for his shows and time...smh

that was some bullshit dave pulled. He signed the contract, and now he made because the public enjoyed the hell out of it. What if dave wants to get paid for half baked (again). if it started to blow p again where will it stop? Truth be told, the DC Show was and is his best work, so he knows he will never touch that sky like that again. fuck chappelle, he just a cry baby. If you paid someone to do a job and you kept your end of the bargain, then why should you feel bad after the fact that you got a better benefit than you bargained for?

I'll show my hand for a moment because this is too important to not address.

Businesses and Corporations (hereinafter called corporations) have privileges to legally complain (sue) and seek legal reliefs (injunctions) all day, every day if they believe that an event has or will transpire that will cause them harm.

When a competitor offers a product to the consumer market at a "better price" than what is agreed to and accepted by corporations as fair, they have their corporate lawyers (internal and external counsel, collectively speaking) to zealously assert their clients' positions under the rules of the adversary system by arguing that said "Actions" are deemed "Predatory Pricing" or well below their corporations' "Price Floor", etc., which will hinder their abilities to protect the consumers and generate projected revenue for their shareholders.

Dave Chappelle is a corporation that contractually distributes its products to consumers, by way of other corporations (Comedy Central, Netflix, etc.). The Dave Chapelle corporation realized that their product was a victim of "Predatory Pricing" and being sold below its "Price Floor" and merely sought relief for its corporate shareholders with the help of corporate lawyers (internal and external counsel, collectively speaking) and us, the consumers.

Even the most famously-cited contract (the Constitution of the United States of America) can be challenged for changes by way of amendments.

I used to think the same way as you... until I opened my eyes and started paying attention to what's really going on in the world. Some may disagree with my opinion; I respect that. However, in life, you will never get what you deserve; you will get what you negotiate.

Don't hate the Players... hate the Game.

Death is the only contract that cannot be negotiated.

Yeah the brotha seriously needs to cut back or quit all together.

You never see Dave and not see him smoking a square.
Dude barely even hits the ciggarette on stage. Nigga literally lights up 3 squares just to take like 3 puffs if you ever notice.

i hear ya player but it don't change the facts. He signed a contract, got paid, the product was may more profitable and his percentage did not changed. Look at it in reverse. If the show failed and they ask Dave for some of his guaranteed money back , he would have been like foh with that bullshit, a deal is a deal. It's true deals can be re-negotiated but that's not what happened. he used his current platform to change a previously ratified contract to his benefit only. It's not like he had to perform additional services, offered up more content.. nope.. he just held them hostage using his current platform to extract money from a previous contract. Straight up bullshit!

. However, in life, you will never get what you deserve; you will get what you negotiate.
my man... you just proved my point with this..... he negotiated a deal.. and at the time, it was not even a bad deal...he quit because they wanted more and he decided nah i'm good. It was only after the DC show started to blow up than the value of the show increased. When the DC show was on air.. its ok ok at best on some college prank boi comedy central shit at worst. It was probably the blackest show on comedy central at the time. Dave walking away from the show, is what caught the attention of non industry types and the casual fans of the DC show. .. over times, with the rise of youtube, internet and bit torrents sites, the show popularity really took off, by then Dave had moved onto other things. By the time it got to netflix, the DC show was a bonafide crown jewel piece of property and then DC got caught in his feeling about wanting more money when did did nothing to support that other than complain.. aka using his current popularity to renegotiate for a bigger piece of the pie. Remember they offered Dave a chance to re-negotiate and more money ($50mil) and he left and walked away. .. so if you truly believe ou get what you negotiate (I do), than you can't complain after the fact, you made a bad decision in hindsight or you made a good decision at the time, that didn't turn out to be as lucrative for you as the other person you made the deal with.

Just have to point out....McCormick brands is quick to have Stubbs as the sponsor of a lot of black shit lately.....

That guy Stubbs is their Uncle Ben and Aunt Jemima....Stubbs is not a black owned brand....but they sure have been putting that black face out there, haha

You mad??? LOL. Are you paying him? Hate to see a black man get paid? You must be a cac, no other way around it.

The only problem with this take is that Comedy Central fronted all the money and Dave contributions finically was nothing

When Dave himself confirmed he never even approached Comedy Central about an increase then you knew he was on the bullshit.

I am not mad that Dave did what he needed to do and get his money but let’s not make him out to be the victim. He had every chance to negotiate his terms but he walked away and never bothered to ask to renegotiate.

When the show started printing money he got in his feelings

Dave said they refused to honor his contract. His percentage was worth hundreds of millions, they said take 50.

damn... dude.. really? why I got to be anybody other than a black man whose not mad but educated, not gay and have a different opinion than your ignorant ass. Say something about the topic at hand or shut the fuck us. Niggas like you kill thread with your juvenile bullshit. Yeah I'm mad at a mofo like you still breathes!

EXACTLY!

So basically what happened is Dave signed a “Bad” contract, received a small percentage of the DVD sales. DVD released and that shit went platinum in a week and double platinum in two weeks. After a year of being released it sold 3 million copies.

I don’t remember how much the original DVD set was, but lots of money was made by Comedy Central.

I’m guessing Comedy Central came with a new contract with new stipulations giving Dave a larger percentage of DVD sales for future DVD’s but Dave was salty about the sales of the first two seasons.

Dave was unhappy about the money made off of him and other issues with the show so he walked away from 50 million dollars.

So from 15-16 years he’s made little or no money from DVD sales and no money from streaming and got tighter!

Him coming to the public to ask them to stop watching his show was smart for him, because I know it hurt to see advertisements to streams of his show where he wasn’t making a dime. Especially to see HBO streaming it.

In the end it worked out for him but what happens for him was unprecedented. Comedy Central didn’t have to pay him a dime. But the higher ups now wanted to make it right because of who Dave is and the position he’s in.

i agree with everything except the bad contract. Nobody considered it a bad contract at the time. Like a lot of contracts, they are good until you discover they are not good for you but you got the essential facts f the issue correct.

I think the reason it turned out to be bad was because it wasn't future proofed. Streaming became a whole new element. Just like for musicians, only a lot of them are able to get paid because of ownership of their masters or publishing.

The problem is Dave never approached them. That is the wildest shit I ever heard.

This is the core problem with BGOL and the reason it has not grown like the Coli for example. Free speech is killed on this board by a group of members. The consistent you are Cracka or coon for having a different opinion.

Not realizing the board is dead because they created a situation where everyone has the same opinion so there is nothing to talk about and it’s why the board stays dead. I have never seen a board where people run to the ignore button because of a difference of opinion

You must not be on this board a lot or not read posts to even state that people have the same opinion here.

Dude’s air each other out everyday and be ready to meet up because of differences of opinions! Every member’s one word from saying fuck you to the other and you’re talking about the same opinion!

Nah, the problem’s when a member has a dumbass take on something coming out of left, right and outfield! Usually a take that is the opposite of most and just a person trying to be different just to create an argument.

You seem to have those takes a lot so that would be your perspective of members not liking your opinions.

The member you quoted said what Dave did was “Bullshit”.

That’s a weird take unless that member has experienced that same situation in his life or he just really doesn’t like Dave. Most would be happy to see Dave get paid and leave it at that.:dunno:
