He missed 1.75 seasons at the start of his career (after his rookie year and part of his sophomore one). He started hitting homers seriously AFTER he came back. Considering a natural progression, he likely lost some 50-60 homers, and NOT 140+ plus.

Clemente was near the end of his career when he died, he couldn't have done too much to improve his legacy at that point.

In terms of pure numbers and only including the MAJOR LEAGUES... Mr. Mays is right up there. However, Babe Ruth would have made the Hall of Fame as a pitcher, much less a hitter. And Ted Williams did miss like three or more prime years (WWII and the Korean). Of course Hank Aaron didn't just hit 755 home runs for no reason. He seems to get skipped over a lot.
In terms of OVERALL baseball Satchel Paige may have been the best pitcher ever at any level.
