I apologize if this is a repost. I didn't find it when I did a search. Ben Jealous, President of the NAACP was interviewed on NPR today. He referred to a report that the group recently published that connects incarceration rates with poorly performing schools:

Many of you already know this, but the US has become a prison state. According to the report, we have 5% of the world's inhabitants but 25% of its prisoners. I already know how a lot of you cats feel about the NCAAP (antiquated, misguided, diluted by white membership, etc.) but it's still trying to make a difference.

We got - the U.S. Congress went from 101 to 21 last year. Victory, but partial victory. South Carolina - full victory. In New York we got the state to eviscerate its Rockefeller drug laws."

Cats LOVE to pretend that black women are the problem, but by any measurable metric of success - academic, monetary, home ownership, health - they're doing better than brothers. You cats need to stop investing in these bullshit, black women-bashing stereotypes and focus on the real enemy.
 
Well, integrationists you have your proof now. You cannot continue to look at this problem as if you are a third party. Or continue to think because you live away from our children--that you're not of that community. If you are a black male, the enemy is at our doorstep. The comparison to South Africa is writing on the wall. This Nation is in a state of reinvention. Which means first returning to the basic components (free labor) that lead to preferred results(profit). I remind you this nation was established by conquerors and slavers. People have the right to do any thing with their life they see fit.Selling drugs is a victimless crime.Alcohol and cigarettes have killed more people then crack and heroin combine.Dui murders have them beat alone.You also need to add the people you are talking about have limited education.They also are from area where each person make less then $12,000 a year.Pure poverty!

So they spend 70 billion a year.To lock up poor and ignorant people.Now that's a waste of money!

Should it be the sole responsibility of the NAACP to combat the problem? The responsibility has to start at home if change has a chance. The projects are out there but when you don't want to work hard to make it and want to be Nino Brown in 10 minutes this is the outcome.

Sirwoodz black people are doing what they were programmed to do. It is the system. Same system that was in jonestown is the system we are born in, in Amerikkka. I tried to get the N.A.A.C.P to come to Goodwater alabama about some things they they should have gotten involved in. They say they only deal with cases of civil rights. And they can only take on so many cases a year. I can understand resources.But what I called them for was dealing with civil rights. And it was about what this post was about.
Poor blacks in Rockford county in Alabama are being used by the big shots in what is similar to modern day slavery and more. Poor blacks are doing prison time for misdemeanors. Do not have the time to get into the details of it right now. But the judges and all are crooks that are living it up off of trickery and enjoying the suffering of poor blacks.

Also sirwoodz statement is an example of someone that wants things to stay the way they are. Stealing is wrong. Yes that is true. But it is alright if you are rich and powerful. Even if you get caught, some may say well embezzlemant is not going to be treated like regular stealing. But if you are powerful enough you can get caught and still noting will be done. An example would be South Africa.

We have got to see white people for what they are and that is devils. Then realize that there is a power within us that is greater than anything the world can offer us. Jesus unleashed that power. Today it got to happen again before it is too late. And this time the pure and natural energy and force of life got to rule and power the earth.

For blacks it is time to buy black and organize. Or keep working and paying taxes to police depts. that beat our great grandmothers. To a military that helped with the death of almost 1 million blacks in Rwanda and helped to kill many blacks in Libya, to a society that sends rich people to vacations in outer space but is steady increasing homeless and prisoners. We empower the same people that we know are there to destroy us, instead of having love for ourselves and empower ourselves to do something for ourselves. We can do for ourselves, what we have been asking whites to do for us.

Some of us are old enough to remember the Crack Era and the data doesn't agree with his premises. It's just the Myth of the Good Old Days and our selective biases at work that ignore how bad the past really was. Hell, in the 80's, the average number of murders for major cities were in the thousands or close to it. In 2012, it is barely breaking half of what it was back then whether it was violent or property crime.

In NYC, the last time the number of murders were sub-1000 before 1998 was in 1967. In 1990, 2607 people were murdered. In 2010, 877.

Don't take my word for it. Look on the Bureau of Justice Statistics website.

what most people do not understand is that jail and prison isnt used to stop crime or punish criminals - it is used for social control - the minute any group begins to threaten the societal status quo then that group is put into prison - Look at who is in prison Blacks, Hispanics, Poor Whites - however, crimes are committed by many more groups such as Asians, rich Whites, Italians and Jews(Israeli and Hassidim) and many others but they are not upsetting the status quo - they are view either as model minorities or perpetuators of the status quo.
When Blacks where suppressed by Jim Crow and other oppressive laws - it dint matter if blacks committed crimes they were going to prison because in a sense their every day life was a prison -

Now there are assholes in our community that fuck shit up but there are many other young people pulled into the system because they commit a minor crime that for a white or asian would be a slap on the wrist or literally being taken home and told not to do it again - for blacks it means being put through the system and charged with a felony and basically ruining there lives.

Today, the opposite is true, with whites composing 35 percent of those imprisoned and Blacks, who are just over 13 percent of the general population, accounting for nearly 65 percent of those in prison.

A better victory would be to get people to stop selling that shit..
Most don't make that much money from it and they're not very good at it otherwise they wouldn't keep getting caught.

That is someone else life and not mine! How many people you see holding a sign on the street.Saying that they are hungry and you don't pay them any of attention? They only thing that i'm concern about are the unfair laws that they practice on us.How someone spend their time and money doesn't bother not one bit!

I've argued that it is always something with this white operated government. When slavery ended, 100 years of Jim Crow started. When Civil Rights happened, they moved on to Jim Crow 2(drug war). They have used drug laws to their advantage since they used opium laws to bust Chinese workers who they thought were taking white jobs. Nothing has changed.
