Question about Nas' Ether...

Super Ugly got points in my book just because it was released like HOURS after ETHER. Forget TAKEOVER for a minute & listen to Jay-Zs "lost verses" on Bleeks "Is That Your Chick"

Nas threw more shots on other joints on Stillmatic too not just ETHER.

All this said I was in L.E.S studio this past Monday ghostproducing a joint supposedly for Nas. :dunno:

These arguments always jump from Super Ugly to BP2 but yall must've forgot!

" explain why i wanna be you again, you on the radio cryin, im learnin to swim"

 You always hear that. You probably could go to Chicago or Oakland and hear the same thing.

Raef didn't have the athleticism or speed that a lot of NBA players had, and him and Shamgod shooting :smh:

This is how I took it.

Nas' shit was fictional and gay. I'm not from the school of joking another mans appearance, that shits gay. He looks like a camel but he fucked your baby moms? Plus Premo was talking about they were up in the studio like say this about him. I don't know, Nas never seemed like a funny dude to me, so I always thought a lot of shit were jokes his boys were telling him to say.

Jay-Z's shit was true.

And I hate this below the waste shit. Are their rules to dissing? The only shit I felt was untouchable and in poor taste was when Cam said he'd R Kelly his daughters face. The rest of the shit, is all fair. Dude didn't say he threw the condom in his daughters face. Nobody said that shit when Tupac did Hit'em Up.

The thing I hated about Super Ugly was the fuckin beat, I always hated that fuckin song. Ether was more menacing and fit.

Plus in general, most of the time, people root for the underdog. There was a huge anti Jay-Z conglomerate out there. It was like the Lakers. They have a huge fanbase, but they also spark a lot of hate.

C/S all you said.

You're full of shit. There were like two ugly references in an entire song full of legitimate disses that questioned everything from Jays, Integrity, Loyalty, Skillset, Originality, Streetcred to his Player persona.

Again, even Jay admitted he lost that one. His fans should just accept it and move in. Its been nearly a decade man.

No your full of shit !!!! I never heard Jay-z admit ether was as a matter of fact look at this.....this was just a couple months ago.....So again win did he so call admit this?http://eskoletsgo.com/profiles/blogs/he-we-go-again-jayz-says-the

Again nas diss had no actual facts and brought nothing new to the table. Okay Jay-z admits bitches called him ugly and that money made him player. Again nas diss was just a bunch insults about looks.

 @ Jay winning Nas roasted the hell out of him with ether, it had people looking at Jay like :itsawrap:

No it didnt. Nas had no facts in his song. Even the great KRS1 said you wanna be as factual as possible.

Oh and for the poster that said N as never made another diss after either he did make last real nigga alive it just didnt have the same impact because the production was as good.

Last Real Nigga Alive wasn't a diss, and that much should be obvious just by listening to the song. It was a story first and foremost.

are you serious fam? The link is posted in this thread. He wasn't crying at all. It's clear the battle took a toll on his, but he was far from crying. Yall need to stop embellishing stuff.

I didn't mean he was literally sobbing. I meant he was shook up on the radio. His voice was trembling man. He sounded defeated and was not his usual self.

Thats a quote about which song was better. Not who won the battle. He's an artist, he thinks his song was better. Im fine with that. But he and his camp have admitted he lost the "battle". Jay even had a line to admit as much "The Jones cant keep up, maybe my man Nas, but i got stronger after Ether." Thats pretty clear man.

And again, you're full of shit. The song had two references to looks. The rest was factual accounts that questioned Jay Z's authenticity. Not even admitting that much shows that you are either dumb or dishonest as hell. Either way man, i honestly dont care enough to continue to go back and forth. Shits a decade old discussion that the masses have long since decided. Jay Z lost. And the fact that his fans have to say dumb shit like "well he won the war" further proves that point.

Both those brothers have moved on i suggest you do the same.

I love how no one talks about how Nas was on the radio crying about Jay Z and The Roots going in on him on MTV. None of this has anything to do with anything. And no one has yet to show anything that roasted Jay Z. There was no sort of truth or expose. Just jokes. Albeit some pretty funny jokes. The ultimate irony is, if any male poster came on this board and said another male poster had dick sucking lips, yall would be bitching to have him banned as gay. Nas say it though, it's funny. Shit was suspect then, and suspect now.

You're reaching here fam. This is in no way an admission of defeat. You can win and the experience can make you stronger. Then again, when people are looking to prove their point, they'll put anything in the context that will support their view.

* That this Gay-Z and Cockafella Records wanted beef
Started cocking up my weapon, slowly loading up this ammo
To explode it on a camel, and his soldiers, I can handle (gay jokes, gay z and cockafella. Mad wack too. Nas is a way better lyricist than this. This was just lazy on his part. And the camel joke was a looks judgment)

* Dick sucking lips, why not you let the late, great veteran live. (not even sure what to call this. This is a looks judgment and a gay reference I suppose. Nas came off gayer though. Who looks at another man's lips and thinks DSLs?)

* Were you abused as a child, scared to smile, they called you ugly? (talking about Jay Z's looks again)

* Rockefeller died of AIDS, that was the end of his chapter
And that's the guy y'all chose to name your company after? (Rockerfeller, the guy named after Roc-A-Fella actually died of arteriosclerosis. Rock Hudson died of AIDS)

* Put it together, I rock hoes, y'all rock fellas (another gay joke)

* What you think, you getting girls now 'cause of your looks? (another reference to Jay Z's looks)

* You no mustache having, with whiskers like a rat (another reference to Jay Z's looks)

* How much of Biggie's rhymes is gonna come out your fat lips? (another reference to Jay Z's looks. Independently it wouldn't be that bad. But the fact he referenced looks before he's back at Jay Z's lips is just kinda... strange)

Well i wasnt addressing you so i will pay you the respect of responding to your points before i bow out of this stale debate.

There was no need to put anything in context. Jay Z did that for you. It was a line addressing someone whom he considered subservient. In doing so he felt the need to express that Nas was the exception and specifically noted "Ether" as the instance. His line that "i got stronger after ether" is a play on the term "what doesnt kill me makes me stronger". Which is a term used to show resolve and determination after a defeat. The context is clear to any objective listener.

And again, this doesnt even take into account the reports by Jay, his camp members, members of the hip hop community and the public in general who all pretty much said Nas won the battle. Move on with your life dog, Jay and Nas have.

My apologies, i said there were two references about Jays look. Apparently there were three.:hmm: You're reaching on that other shit.

Still only a drop in the bucket when taking the entire song into "context" ("context" remember that word?). And if the best you can do is cherrypick a few lines out of an entire song then again you only succeed in showing your bias and dishonesty. The song speaks for itself, im not gonna sit and post the lyrics to the majority of the song which goes at Jay as a person, artist and man. I dont have the time or desire to point out the obvious of a debate that was settled a decade ago. But to act like the song only consisted of comments on Jays look is some shameful sore loser shit. :smh:

I asked a question asking what exactly it was if it wasn't gay jokes and judgements on his looks. Yet no one has responded. If you ask me what the theme/thesis of Takeover is, I'll say "one hot album every ten year average." Nothing gay. Just a breakdown on how lethargic his career had become. Superugly was clearly about smutting his BM. BP2 was about Nas' hypocrisy. The only thing that sticks out in the minds of people with regards to Ether is the Camel joke and the Gay Z references which of course was backed up by the H to the Omo shit. So with all this said, since it's so obvious that Ether was way more than Gay jokes and looks judgments, break it down for me please.

On tour with Damian Marley clown.

Don't mind these 2+2=9 dudes, they can never answer within the frame of the question;

Poster 1: 'Nas got Jay on Ether'

Poster 2: 'Nah Jay won, he has 20 Maybachs'

Poster 1: 'what's that got to do with Ether?'

Poster 2: '..........Jay has Beyonce he winnin'

Poster 1: :hmm:

Just say you pefer Takeover to Ether and leave it at that. To act like all Nas was saying was 'Jay he gay (giggles), Jay he homo (giggles)' is flat out BS. The other poster did break it down for you and you ignored it.

If you read what I said, I think Ether was dope. Just not the best diss of the battle. Takeover was one verse. Again, this is coming from someone who has Nas' entire discography including Distant Relatives (which I actually like. Lots of people keep calling it trash.. :dunno:). This isn't a Jay fan vs Nas fan thing. Just a preference which I said from my very first post. And no, I didn't see any poster "break it down" for me. Let me scroll because apparently I missed it.

I really don't see why you need to reiterate that you are a Nas fan?! I never challneged you on that front.

Moving on, you say Ether was weak because all Nas did was make remarks about Jay's appreance, which is false and also strange to me as disses have long contained barbs about one's choice of clothes, hair cut, personality traits etc etc. To discount Ether on that front lets do the same to 'No Vasaline' for Cube mentioning homopphic acts. Nas spoke about Jay's plagiarism and recounted their prior history (true or not).

There is no rap battle manual that says contestant two must reply in the same amount of verse's that contestant one. Jay felt he could ruin all his tragets on one song, but only managed to get half of the job done.

:lol:Basically.

Like I said earlier, what's the point of arguing with these dick riders?

What war? It wasnt on no east vs west nonsense. It was a rap battle. And like you say. Nas won. Anyone using the war slogan are just trying to make themselves feel better about the L that Jay took. Jays current success doesnt erase the lumps Nas gave him. They went head up, Jay lost. Period. Jay even admits it.

Jay said a few months back while promoting the Decoded book that he feels that he won.

been saying this from day 1. I'm a fan of Ether, oddly enough I was never really a fan of takeover, but Ether's beat was just sooooooo fucking sick!

takeover wasn't even really about nas except for the last verse...

and people like to act like nas rose from the ashes like a phoenix with Ether, but in reality he dropped a track in response to takeover (h to the homo) and it was pretty garbage :dunno: niggas like pretending it didn't happen tho

When you win, you're confident that you won...no stuttering, no stammering around, you conduct yourself like the champ, the best, the GOD MC that you claim to be not like someone who was TKO'd at 2:58 of the 12th round.

Angie: If you weren't you would you think ether was a hot song????

Jay: Umm, umm, like wow, me as a guy, like wow...uneasy (Angie notices his embarrassment and switches the topic ) :smh:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffDDbEJAEIg

Its obvious to me that his take on the situation was that ether put a bruising on his ego along with public opinion at that time. Why else would he not be able to answer such a simple question about a track from a guy who is beneath him???

Now this is Nas' interview after Ether, sounding like he just won the heavyweight championship of the world after releasing ether.

Their own voices tell you who thought what about the battle.

For example: I heard so many stories about NYC streetballers that, in hindsight, bordered on the mystical - but once I finally got a chance to see these guys play...

...they were very good, but no way NEAR as good as dudes made them out to be.

That is just ONE example of NY niggas over-hyping shit.

I remember Alimoe from AND 1 saying dudes in NY were telling him he was better than Jordan and he was a teenager. Seriously, I've been around NY'ers long enough to know of what I speak. Them niggas can exaggerate the FUCK out of a story.:lol::lol:

Dear BGOL NY'ers:

If this does not describe you, there is no need to take offense.

Sincerely,

the reiteration wasn't necessarily geared toward you, but moreso just a general statement. You know how BGOL is. It's like you can't have an opinion without either being a hater or a fanboy.

I don't discount Ether because of the gay shit and/or the constant mention of Jay Z's looks. But to me, when a dude just basically said he smutted your babymom out, the last thing you can really do is call him gay or say he's ugly. That doesn't quite work. It actually makes you and the chick you impregnated look that much weaker. For the record, I thought Ether was dope, just not as good as BP2 or Takeover. He should've focused on talking about Jay Z's upstart and shit like that. Just my opinion.

Only song I like from Nas prior to Stillmatic and God Son was "Hate me now". Ether was a killer track if taken in context. Always felt Nas was a lazy lyricist - I swear he had a ghost writer for Sitllmatic and God Son or strife from his mother's illness/death brought his writing skill up.

Takeover came out of nowhere and I liked it but I was like Nas? Mobb Deep? Then BGOL actually hipped me to what was really going on. Blueprint grew on me and actually brought me back to liking hip hop (I missed the whole Dynasty, Biggie/Tupac West Coast thing - I stopped at Rumpshaker/Pumps and a Bump/Fantastic Voyage).

During that era a troll appeared on the board went by the name of "Nas", "Esco", "Godson", "Stillmatic" which kinda put Nas the rapper's character in perspective as we watched him take the early form of 'Ocking' from Moustacy and Darth Harlem...

Does it even matter anymore? Jay and Nas have moved on and have a mutual respect for one another. They are both pushing the boundaries of hip-hop in amazing yet different ways. Hip-hop fans stay living in the past.:smh:

Huh, what are you talking about? Nas can never be referred to as a lazy lyricist, his strength is his lyrics. And the thought of Nas having a ghostwriter is laughable.

Exactly. dudes kill me with that shit. On that note I guess Soljah boy is a better artist then Kweli cause he had a couple #1 singles. some cats need reading comprehension...

Peace but I wouldn't believe a damn thing Angie Martinez had to say. I lived in NY during this time (1996-2001) and although I remember hearing of Jay-Z/Pun beef, I don't recall nor do I believe it would have spilled into a Black vs Latino "war." New York City isn't LA, where Mexican's target black folks. This would have been a label/studio beef, not a larger Black vs Brown beef in the streets. Shit during his (98-death) heyday, I remember black cats giving Pun more love than Jay-Z.

True shit. I was a Pun fan before I became a Jay fan. Didn't really appreciate Jay's music until the Hard Knock album.

You're reaching here fam. This is in no way an admission of defeat. You can win and the experience can make you stronger. Then again, when people are looking to prove their point, they'll put anything in the context that will support their view.

question 1:who was Rockerfeller?

question 2:was he on Dare Iz a Darkside by redman track 9

Rockafella (R.I.P.) (feat. Rockafella)

Even though this debate is hella old, I'll drop my change also.

What made the disses both valid, is that both songs accomplished their mission: tore into the other's ego.

Jay: Dude tore into dude with the facts. No need for jokes. And he spoke on everything everyone else shied away from stating.

Nas: He would've taken a L if he decided to defend his albums. They did suck. So he went on Jay's weakness: the truth of his past. Jay put his soul into his albums. Nas, to me, was a reporter---seemed to keep his business out of his music. So, playing dude on what he already admitting was a win. I think teasing was his card even though his lyrics were forced. Aside from the rhyme scheme and chorus, those were his worst lyrics (one of them--he got garbage also).
