It sure took 'em long enough, but ViewSonic's dual-booting ViewPad 10 has finally, really, actually made it to America. A few days after the iPad 2 most likely sucked any remaining wind out of its sails, mind you, but it's quite possible that the target market for an Android 1.6 + Windows 7 tablet couldn't care less about a similar one from Apple. If you'll recall, this one's rocking a 10.1-inch touchpanel (1024 x 600), 1.66GHz Atom CPU, 2GB of RAM, Bluetooth 2.1, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera and a version of Android we forgot about in 1994. You'll also find a microSD slot and a copy of Windows Home 7 Premium (with a 16GB SSD) or Windows 7 Professional (with a 32GB SSD). Still interested? Just wait until we tell you all about the $599 and $679 price tags, respectively.

I'm trying to find a tablet that simply allows me to take notes in meetings so that I can then transfer them to my office computer, add to my calendar, and task lists. I really don't care much about the cameras, entertainment uses, etc. I don't want a slow one, however. I'm not trying to pay $600 - $800. Which tablet is cheapest but best for basic business use?

there are some business model tablets in the works. i'm more interested in something like that as well.

they'll all be able to play movies etc..

but another reason why apple has a lead and the eye of the public and companies, apple has more apps to do that with.

the hardware is just hardware, you need to software to do all that your asking.

this is why i like cisco as a major business competitor over microsoft. especially if they tie it in with their phone network for audio and video conferences. allow it to save and open from the network and its a wrap...

as for price i think your SOL for a while if your looking for cheaper.

wait until the summer/fall for some business announcements..

check out the cius

is Apple right when it made the statement 'post-PC devices'?

100 percent.

there was a time you needed a pc desktop in every room. now you only need one, maybe two or desktop/laptop combo with a tablet for each member of the house with wireless add on's like speakers, tv, etc...

I forgot Cisco was making one as well. I like their products. As for business use now, with what you said, you think the iPad is the best fit? The price may be much for what I want, however.

the apps.

sure you can root and gain tons of free apps for your android devices but if we are talking about work tablets, they are more than likely locked down and if your network security and desktop engineers are on their games, all devices plugged in can be scanned for what hardware and software has been running.

this is where the number of apps come in. official apps on ios that can purchased with a corporate credit card and reimbursed and justified for office uses like keynote, nytimes and department/job specific apps (for instance fashion and celebrity apps for fashion departments and magazines like people magazine or even mtv for celebrity stalking or be on par with the fans to direct marketing)

good luck getting reimbursed, getting approval and not having that app removed from the network and your device if its a rogue app and not an official app market app.

also why ms isnt stupid, they are releasing office apps for all their competitors..

my curve blackberry has a browser and some office apps. but its trash.. i'm better off walking around with a printout of the information i want.
