One of the best-selling and well-received tablets this holiday season was the HP Stream 7 Tablet. Running for $99, the tablet earned high reviews from owners who were looking for a low cost, but quality tablet running full Windows.

Now, Microsoft has the tablet on sale for just $79 – a $20 discount. This is not the first time this tablet dropped that much, as Microsoft had it on sale during the Christmas shopping period for the same price.

The HP Stream 7 is an enormous bargain for just $79. For one, it includes Office 365 Personal (with 60 minutes of Skype per month), which itself is valued at $69, making the tablet a $10 add-on. Microsoft is also tossing in a free $25 Windows Store Gift card, so now they are paying you for this tablet.

Other features include:
•7-inch HD IPS touchscreen 800x1280
•Intel Atom Z3735G quad core 1.33 GHz with Burst Technology up to 1.83 GHz
•1GB memory/32GB SSD
•microSD expansion
•3000mAh lithium-ion 11.1Wh (up to 8 hours)
•2MP back-facing camera, 0.3MP front-facing camera
•WiFi 802.11b/g/n (Miracast enabled)
•0.78 lbs (353.8 g)

For $79, those are some crazy reliable specifications. Finally, being a 'Signature Edition' tablet means this thing is optimized by Microsoft for Windows with no bloatware or added software—just pure Windows, baby. It seems silly to pass this deal up if you are looking for something to occupy the kids in the car, need a tablet for the couch, or just something to tuck in your bag.

Head to the Microsoft Store and add to cart (or visit your local store if you live near one). No word on how long this price drop will last, so do not wait too long. Head into our Stream 7 Forums if you have questions!

Is there a more advanced model? I would easily pay an extra $100-150 for a better camera, more RAM and larger screen.

Anybody use one of these? 1gb RAM for Windows seems like :smh::smh:

I have win 10 preview running on 2gb and it's just OK.

Re: HP Stream 7 Signature Edition Tablet drops to $79 at the Microsoft Store (plus bo

why dont they just be honest and tell you how much space you are really getting?

It's a given that it's a wimboot install of Windows 8.1 So it will be at a minimal 20gb free.

"looking for something to occupy the kids in the car"

:hmm:

Battery life isn't close to 8 hours from what I've read online. Otherwise, for the price, it would be a great cheap entrainment device.

Battery life was about 5 hours, when I first got it. Then I did the firmware update, and notice it has greatly improved, closer to the 8 hours as stated.

The user is left with 23.5 GB of space on the drive, on "Signature Devices". Of course you can add an 64SD card to expand the memory, haven't tried a 128GB SD card yet.

I copped the 8 for $100 back when they had the free Office 360 + WiFi from TMobile every month.

It was my 1st windows tablet and I was impressed that it was the closest thing to a PC experience with a tablet (and I've owned dawn near every tablet from every OK & big name manufacturer). I liked it so much I copped a Surface 2 with touch cover for $175 off e-bay soon after, and I'm on the look out for a Pro.

$79 is a great buy, might get it for my kid...

Not really, only a larger size 8" tablet, but camera is still the same. It was meant to be a budget tablet, nothing with super great specs. It's really the Windows version of the Android tablet offered by HP as well, except it is a full fledged OS and not a mobile OS.
More than likely the more powerful devices will be released with Win 10 and the new Intel chips

Got it when they had the package deal, tablet, case, screen protector, and 2 year warranty for $100. So far so good, can't really complain. Got it to replace my Kindle Fire HD, was starting to go out on me. Battery would last maybe 4 hours, and sometimes just become unresponsive. So I got the Stream 7, to use as a comic book reader and other books, but now have started using it for easy work related stuff, since Office 365 was free on it.

Let me ask a question. Say I want to update the maps on my GPS device, but I need to run the installer via Windows. Can I do that with this?

In theory it might, but if you need to plug your GPS into the Windows device; then you might want to spend an extra $100 & get a Surface RT :dunno:

You should be able to, will have to check that out. Only one USB port, so it should.

Appreciate it if you let me know. Just want to be able to have the device recognized when plugged in and run exe files.

Don't think it is possible, only a headphone jack and USB port for charging.

You usually need one of these for Tablets - in transferring data - OTG CABLE

USB On-The-Go, often abbreviated to USB OTG or just OTG, is a specification first used in late 2001, that allows USB devices such as digital audio players or mobile phones to act as a host, allowing other USB devices like a USB flash drive, digital camera, mouse, or keyboard to be attached to them.
