True. However, it's also true that few other white actors could have gotten away with that. Off the top of my head, I'm thinking John Wayne and that's about it.
He's not talking about abusing a woman, he's talking when a females gets uber out of pocket, even when the man is giving up and trying to move on.

I disagree with this. My husband never laid a hand on me. He was too much of a MAN to do so. He would consider something like that weak and unseemly. He's said to youngsters before; What am i? Some kind of weak willed pudding guts negro that a few words thrown from an emotional woman are going to incite me?
He'd consider slapping a woman, even arguing with a woman an insult to his very character.
