One Conference Finals appearance in 9 years doesn't prove shit. They were not one piece away..why didn't they return the next year? Or ever after that? The Celtics were never on anybodies short list. One piece away...Yeah a SUPERSTAR piece not a complimentary piece and thats my point.
The Celtics were never a complimentary piece a way they need a SUPERSTAR...its a big difference between need a James posey and needing a Kevin Garnett.

I'm not talking about FIRST round participants...I'm talking about DEEP runs, conference Finals like every year in 90's. Those Suns and Jazz teams were serious contenders every years as in COULD beat the Bulls serious..... Paul Pierce reached the CONFERENCE FINALS ONE TIME, before the rest of the Big 3 got there.

Ming... it's not thin at all. What do you judge elite by? people confuse very good with Elite.. Paul Pierce is a VERY good player... I just don't consider him Elite. Maybe my criteria of Elite is fucked up. Mine is various individual accolades as well as team.
1 Conference Title in 9 years is NOT elite to me..
No scoring titles, MVPs...is NOT elite.
24 ppg is VERY good. 6 All star appearances is Very good...
Let me give yall some examples of what I mean by Elite...

He's a very good player that, when everything is clicking, he can appear GREAT. However, he doesn't play at the highest levels consistently enough to be considered GREAT, in my opinion.
To me, a GREAT player is one that is criticized when he does NOT play at a high level - not one who is praised when he does.
If Kobe were to score 40 points tonight, no one would give a fuck, because he's SUPPOSED to do that. People cite that Paul Pierce game where he dropped all those points in the second half...
....but that is merely an example of a very good player who had an exceptional night. That stands out, but Kobe's scoring accomplishments - which are far more numerous - are unheralded. Hell, Kevin Love did a 30/30 - but how often will he do that?
You can't base a players level off of extreme feats, unless they can consistently produce at the level(e.g. Wilt averaged 50.4ppg for an entire season).
