Father and Son Launch iPhone, HD Video Camera into Space
Share1409

Taking their iPhone Where No iDevice Has Gone Before, a father and son in Newburgh, NY recently took a weekend science project to new heights. Luke and Max Geissbuhler attached an HD Video Camera, iPhone and some styrofoam packing to a weather balloon, then launched their homemade satellite on a journey that lasted 72 minutes and climbed over 100,000 feet into the atmosphere!

The resulting footage is stunning, and has been described as some of the best amateur space footage ever. The weather balloon burst after reaching about 19 miles high, then plummeted back to Earth by parachute and landed in a tree. The iPhone’s on-board GPS helped located the equipment once it landed, undamaged and only 30 miles away from the launch site!

That looked fun. I would like 2 do sumthin like that with my son someday.....#teamiPhone LOL. (no divine:hmm:)

That was honestly amazing, touching and inspiring. Thanks for sharing this man. :yes:

Notice the peacefulness after it passes the thermal winds of 100 mph... Space is really a great place to be.

Umm, yeah except for the:
- Negative pressure that will push the air out of your lungs and collapse every cavity in your body.

- No oxygen.

- Radical temperature swings.

Humans are designed to live on Earth. Space is the harshest possible environment for us. We are truly frail little creatures.

nigga I'm talking about being in a space craft or a plane capable of space flight... Space is no different than the deepest trench in the ocean.

thats whats up. i like how he made the kids a part of the whole process. thats some life long memory type shyt. :)

that is why its important for fathers to be in their kids lives, little shit like that carries weight for a life time.

Props for being a good father, I'm sure that's something his kids will never forget. Now he should just be happy that no one got hurt with his ill begotten stunt of his..

:angry::angry::angry::angry:

That's a clever setup. The iphone is a very powerful platform for its size/weight. I wonder what did he use for an altimeter?
